Comparative Study of Feature classification Methods for Mass Lesion Recognition in Digitized Mammograms
2007
In this work a comparison of different classification methods for the identification of mass lesions in digitized mammograms is performed. These methods, used in order to develop Computer Aided Detection (CAD) systems, have been implemented in the framework of the MAGIC-5 Collaboration. The system for identification of mass lesions is based on a three-step procedure: a) preprocessing and segmentation, b) region of interest (ROI) searching, c) feature extraction and classification. It was tested on a very large mammographic database (3369 mammographic images from 967 patients). Each ROI is characterized by eight features extracted from a co-occurrence matrix containing spatial statistics inf…
Lapatinib activity in a patient with encephalic metastases from trastuzumab-resistant her-2 positive breast cancer
2020
A 42-year-old woman with right breast cancer cT4dN2M0 HR +, HER2 +, undergoes mastectomy with axillary lymphadenectomy after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. During adjuvant treatment with trastuzumab and hormone therapy, the patient develops multiple symptomatic encephalic metastases. She undergoes panencephalic radiotherapy and begins chemotherapy with capecitabine and lapatinib. After three months of well tolerated therapy, an important volumetric response of encephalic metastases is observed, with regression of neurological symptoms.
Classifier trained on dissimilarity representation of medical pattern: A comparative study.
2005
In this paper we investigate the feasibility of some typical techniques of pattern recognition for the classification of medical examples. The learning of the classifiers is not made in the traditional features space but it can be made by constructing decision rules on dissimilarity (distance) representations. In such a recognition process a new object is described by its distances to (a subset of) the training samples. Purpose of this work is the development of an automatic classification system which could be useful for radiologists in the investigation of breast cancer. The software has been designed in the framework of the MAGIC-5 collaboration. In the automatic classification system th…
Mid-region PTHrP and gene expression of MDA-MB231 breast cancer cells
2007
Type V collagen is known to be over-deposited in the stroma of ductal infiltrating carcinomas of the breast. When used as a substrate, type V collagen restrains growth and invasion, and affects gene expression of 8701-BC ductal infiltrating carcinomas cells. Here we supplement existing data by demonstrating type V collagen dependent upregulation of capn2 gene expression in 8701-BC cells through differential display-PCR and Western blot assays. Furthermore, we suggest that our data obtained by centrifugal sedimentation and electrophoresis strongly suggest a correlation between calpain overproduction and DNA fragmentation, since the incubation with calpain inhibitor partly reverts the latter.
High expression of progesterone receptor may be an adverse prognostic factor in oestrogen receptor-negative/progesterone receptor-positive breast can…
2021
Oestrogen receptor (ER)-negative (–) progesterone receptor (PgR)-positive (+) is the least common combination of steroid receptor expression observed in breast cancer. There are many controversies regarding the actual existence of ER–/PgR+ phenotype. In the current study, we aimed to perform comprehensive immunohistochemical re-evaluation of ER–/PgR+ breast cancers from multiple institutions. A total of 135 cases of ER–/PgR+ breast cancer were collected from 11 institutions from the period 2006–2020 and subsequently stained with three clinically validated anti-ER antibody clones: SP1 (Roche), 1D5 (Dako), and EP1 (Dako), and two anti-PgR antibody clones: 636 (Dako), and 1E2 (Roche). Clinicop…
Involvement of EZH2-MYC loop and SALL4 in Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) and trastuzumab resistance process in HER2+ breast cancer
2021
Breast cancer (BC) is the most common type of cancer in females worldwide. It is also the second leading cause of death in women. BC is covered with heterogeneity properties, that leads to poor prognosis and therapeutic resistance. It has always been essential to unveil the different molecular mechanisms involved in BC cancer progression, finding a suitable treatment for the patients. This thesis focuses on unwrapping the various molecular mechanisms involved in HER2+ BC subtypes, as this denotes an aggressive phenotype among other subtypes of BC. Downregulation of miR-33b has been documented in many types of cancers and involves proliferation, migration, and epithelial-mesenchymal transiti…
Polymer-drug conjugates as platforms for combination therapy in the treatment of hormone-dependent breast cancer
2013
Immunological micro and macroenvironment modifications for the early diagnosis and prognostication of breast and prostate adenocarcinomas
Krūts vēža saudzējošo operāciju apjoma izmaiņas Latvijā pēdējo 8 gadu laikā
2019
