AbstractFluid overload in septic intensive care unit (ICU) patients is common and strongly associated with poor outcome. There is currently no treatment for capillary leak, which is mainly responsible for high positive fluid balance (FB) in sepsis. We hypothesized that increasing interstitial pressure with extensive corporeal compression would reduce FB. Objective: The objective of this study was to characterize factors associated with closure of venous leg ulcers (VLUs) in a pooled analysis of subjects from three randomized clinical trials. Methods: Closure of VLUs after treatment with HP802-247, an allogeneic living cell therapy consisting of growth-arrested human keratinocytes and fibroblasts, vs standard therapy with compression bandaging was evaluated in three phase 3 clinical trials of similar design. Type V aplasia cutis congenita in a preterm newborn successfully resolved

Aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) associated with fetus papyraceus is a rare subtype of aplasia cutis categorized as type V in Frieden's classification. It is characterized by stellate lesions in a symmetrical distribution over the trunk and proximal extremities. Conservative treatment is recommended, but there is not a well-defined therapeutic protocol. We report the case of a type V ACC in a preterm male newborn with lesions on the trunk and scalp successfully treated with topical 1% silver sulfadiazine and petrolatum gauze with an excellent evolution. This case associates a severe affectation of the scalp which represents a rare variant of type V ACC.

Xyloglucan-based hydrogel films for wound dressing: Structure-property relationships

Thin xyloglucan-based hydrogel films have been synthetized and characterized in the prospect of producing wound dressings. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and glycerol (Gro) were added to have an optimal combination of softness, conformability and resilience. Physical hydrogels have been transformed into permanent covalent hydrogels by reaction with glutaraldehyde (GA). Elastic Superhydrophobic and Photocatalytic Active Films Used as Blood Repellent Dressing.

Durable and biocompatible superhydrophobic surfaces are of significant potential use in biomedical applications. Here, a nonfluorinated, elastic, superhydrophobic film that can be used for medical wound dressings to enhance their hemostasis function is introduced. The film is formed by titanium dioxide nanoparticles, which are chemically crosslinked in a poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) matrix. The PDMS crosslinks result in large strain elasticity of the film, so that it conforms to deformations of the substrate. Objective: This study evaluates the effect of calcium hydroxide dressing on microleakage of composite restorations following non-vital bleaching. Methods: A total of 45 sound extracted human maxillary central incisors underwent endodontic treatment. The teeth were randomly divided into three groups (n=15).
