Image Based Modeling Technique for Pavement Distress surveys: a Specific Application to Rutting
2016
Image-based modeling (IBM) is a well-known technique to obtain high quality 3D models based on multi view images. IBM started being used in several applications such as inspection, identification of objects and visualization, due to the user-friendly approach, the low cost and highly automated technique. This paper focuses on the investigation of the potential application of IBM in the diagnosis of road pavement distresses and in particular rutting. Indeed, the evaluation of the rutting distress is a fundamental step to define the whole state of a pavement as demonstrated by the calculation of Present Serviceability Index (PSI). Currently, the permanent deformation is measured monitoring vi…
ChemInform Abstract: The Mechanism of Formation of 3H,9H-Pyrano(3,4-b)indol-3-ones from 3- Indolalkanoic Acids.
2010
The mechanism of the formation of 1-methyl-3H,9H-pyrano[3,4-b]indol-3-one (4) from the corresponding 3-indolacetic acid 1 is discussed. The suggested mechanism is substantiated by the isolation of a stable intermediate 2 and its transformations in the presence of acetic anhydride and/or Lewis acids.
Assisted baseline subtraction in complex chromatograms using the BEADS algorithm.
2017
The data processing step of complex signals in high-performance liquid chromatography may constitute a bottleneck to obtain significant information from chromatograms. Data pre-processing should be preferably done with little (or no) user supervision, for a maximal benefit and highest speed. In this work, a tool for the configuration of a state-of-the-art baseline subtraction algorithm, called BEADS (Baseline Estimation And Denoising using Sparsity) is developed and verified. A quality criterion based on the measurement of the autocorrelation level was designed to select the most suitable working parameters to obtain the best baseline. The use of a log transformation of the signal attenuate…
Reversed phase liquid chromatography for the enantioseparation of local anaesthetics in polysaccharide-based stationary phases. Application to biodeg…
2020
[EN] A comprehensive study on the chiral separation of bupivacaine, mepivacaine, prilocaine and propanocaine with eight commercial polysaccharide-based chiral stationary phases (CSPs) in reversed phase conditions compatible with MS detection is performed. Methanol and acetonitrile are used as organic modifiers. Retention and resolution values obtained for each compound in the different CSPs and mobile phases are compared. The polysaccharide-based CSPs tested present different enantioselectivity towards the analytes. From the results, the experimental conditions for determining the enantiomers of bupivacaine, mepivacaine, prilocaine and propanocaine in saline aqueous samples using MS detecti…

Aminosäureester als chirale Hilfsgruppen in Lewis-Säure-katalysierten Diels-Alder-Reaktionen
1990
Amino Acid Esters as Chiral Auxiliaries in Lewis Acid Catalyzed Diels-Alder Reactions Cyclopentadiene, cyclohexadiene and alkyl-substituted butadienes react with N-acryloyl-, N-crotonoyl- and N-(4-nitro-cinnamoyl)-(S)-proline benzyl and allyl ester in the presence of Lewis acids to give the cycloadducts in high yields and with stereoselectivities of up to 97:3 for the endo isomers. The sense of the asymmetric induction in these reactions can be directed by the use of differently coordinating catalysts (e.g. TiCl4: (2R):(2S) = 96:4; EtAlCl2: (2R):(2S) = 10:90 at 0°C). In the TiCl4-catalyzed reactions with the fumaric acid derivatives the ratio of the diastereomers reaches values of up to 112…
Dependence of plasma pH on oxygen saturation
1969
Abstract The influence of haemoglobin oxygenation on the pH value of the blood plasma of healthy adolescents was investigated at 38°C by varying the parameters CO2 pressure, Hb concentration and buffer bases. A total of 5000 measurements gave the following results: 1. 1. The pHs difference between oxygenated and deoxygenated blood increases with diminishing CO2 pressure and with increasing Hb concentration. There is a linear relation between the pHs changes and the O2 saturation of the haemoglobin. 2. 2. Quantitatively these relationships can be expressed by the following equation: δpHs = (8 − pH ox − log 0.03 Pco 2 ) · [Hb] 225 · (100 − So 2 100 where ΔpHs is the pHs difference between par…
A Bi-objective Optimization Study of an Acid-Base Flow Battery for High Efficiency and Improved Power Density
2022
Electrical energy storage is critical for a broader penetration of renewable energies with intermittent nature, such as solar and wind energy. The Acid/Base Flow Battery (AB-FB) is a unique, sustainable, and environmental-friendly storage technology with high electrolyte solution energy density. The method relies on reversible electrodialytic technologies using bipolar membranes to transform electrical energy into chemical energy related to pH gradients and vice versa. The charge phase is accomplished by using bipolar membrane electrodialysis, whereas the discharge phase is performed via bipolar membrane reverse electrodialysis. In a previous work, we developed an advanced multi-scale proce…
Dioxouranium(VI) hydrolysis at 75 and 100°C in 3.6 molkg-1 LiClO4
2008
This work concerns the acidic properties of uranyl ion UO22+ at 75 and 100 °C in 3.6 molal (molkg-1 solvent) LiClO4 aqueous medium. The investigation was carried out by a coulometric-potentiometric technique. Direct and reverse acid base titrations were carried out in order to check the achievement of actual equilibrium conditions. Moreover, in order to reveal oversaturation conditions, a further check was carried out on clean saturated hydrolyzed solutions.
Complete genome sequence of the strain Defluviitoga tunisiensis L3, isolated from a thermophilic, production-scale biogas plant.
2015
An anaerobic, thermophilic bacterium belonging to the phylum Thermotogae was isolated from a rural, thermophilic biogas plant (54 degrees C) producing methane-rich biogas from maize silage, barley, cattle and pig manure. Here we report the first complete genome sequence of the Defluviitoga tunisiensis strain L3, an isolate from the family Thermotogaceae. The strain L3 encodes several genes predicted to be involved in utilization of a large diversity of complex carbohydrates including cellobiose and xylan for the production of acetate, hydrogen (H-2) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The genome sequence of D. tunisiensis L3 provides the basis for biotechnological exploitation of genetic determinants…
