Six years of progress in the oral biopharmaceutics area - A summary from the IMI OrBiTo project.
2020
OrBiTo was a precompetitive collaboration focused on the development of the next generation of Oral Biopharmaceutics Tools. The consortium included world leading scientists from nine universities, one regulatory agency, one non-profit research organisation, three small/medium sized specialist technology companies together with thirteen pharmaceutical companies. The goal of the OrBiTo project was to deliver a framework for rational application of predictive biopharmaceutics tools for oral drug delivery. This goal was achieved through novel prospective investigations to define new methodologies or refinement of existing tools. Extensive validation has been performed of novel and existing biop…

Recommendations for neonatologists and pediatricians working in first level birthing centers on the first communication of genetic disease and malfor…
2021
Abstract Background Genetic diseases are chronic conditions with relevant impact on the lives of patients and their families. In USA and Europe it is estimated a prevalence of 60 million affected subjects, 75% of whom are in developmental age. A significant number of newborns are admitted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) for reasons different from prematurity, although the prevalence of those with genetic diseases is unknown. It is, then, common for the neonatologist to start a diagnostic process on suspicion of a genetic disease or malformation syndrome, or to make and communicate these diagnoses. Many surveys showed that the degree of parental satisfaction with the methods of c…
Best practice in research – Overcoming common challenges in phytopharmacological research
2019
Abstract Background The pharmacology, toxicology and pharmacokinetics of bioactive preparations derived from natural sources has become a flourishing field of research. However, researching complex extracts and natural products faces numerous challenges. More broadly in recent years the critique of pharmacological research, and specifically its design, the methods used and reporting has intensified. Aims This consensus document provides a perspective on what constitutes best practice in pharmacological research on bioactive preparations derived from natural sources, providing a perspective of what the leading specialist journals in the field consider as the core characteristics of good rese…
Proposal for the Reengineering of Processes in the Management of Information and Communication Technology
2019
This article describes the strategies implemented in the improvement of the processes in the management of information and communication technology (ICT) on the “Universidad Nacional de Loja” carried out by the “Unidad de Telecomunicaciones e Informacion” (UTI). First, the analysis of the processes carried out in the management of ICT is narrated. Subsequently, the experiences and best practices of information technology management implemented are described, considering the processes recommended by the Technology Infrastructure Library of Information (ITIL v3). Finally, the results obtained from the process of reengineering in ICT management carried out by the UTI are shown, using free soft…
Launch lessons from a growing global supplier of industrial equipment
2008
Although the launch phase in New Product Development (NPD) has been recognised as a vital stage affecting the success of new products, it is often poorly managed for various reasons. The purpose of this paper is to understand launch management in its context better by looking at the drivers and bottlenecks of launches inside a young and growing global industrial equipment supplier with the use of a case study method. The findings of the study show that the enforcement of internal marketing, market knowledge use, marketing communications and the organisation of marketing activities and their links to other company functions are the main drivers of a successful launch. The paper presents a la…
Managing adoption by cultural development: Exploring the plant level effect of a ‘Company Specific Production System’ (XPS) in a Norwegian multinatio…
2020
Purpose: ‘Company Specific Production Systems’ (XPS) aim to adopt ‘best practice’ across plants within a company. A pertinent issue in the literature involves the constraints in the possibilities of realising such an adoption. This paper addresses to what extent and how a Norwegian multinational succeeded in adopting the XPS in its local plants. Design/methodology/approach: A Brazilian, Chinese and Norwegian plant of a Norwegian electro-chemical company were studied from 2017 to 2019. Our data consist of the results of the plant’s assessment performance program, combined with interviews and observations at different organizational levels. Findings: The MNC had largely managed to adopt the X…

Proximity Violence in Migration Times. A Focus in some Regions of Italy, France and Spain
2019
This volume, edited by Ignazia Bartholini, principal investigator of the PROVIDE - Proximity on Violence: Defence and Equity project (Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme - 2014-2020) funded by the EU, shifted the interpretative focus of its research from gender-based to proximity violence. This theoretical intuition-assertion, fruitful too at empirical level, is informed by a wide-scale reconstruction of the phenomenon of migratory violence and corroborated by the results of the action research carried out by six international teams ˗ Ismu, Oxfam, Telefono Donna, Badia Grande, Aseis Lagarto, Samù International, the University of Jaén and the University of Palermo. Systems of protecti…
