Vapor−Liquid Equilibria for the Binary Systems tert-Butyl Alcohol + Toluene, + Isooctane, and + Methylcyclohexane at 101.3 kPa

Vapor-liquid equilibria were measured for binary systems of tert-butyl alcohol with toluene, isooctane, and methylcyclohexane at 101.3 kPa using a recirculating still. Experimental values of the vapor pressure of non-oxygenated pure components have been obtained. The accuracy of experimental measurements was ±0.01 K in temperature, ±0.01 kPa in pressure, and ±0.001 in mole fractions. The results are thermodynamically consistent according to the point-to-point consistency test. The data were correlated with five liquid-phase activity coefficients models (Margules, Van Laar, Wilson, NRTL, UNIQUAC).

In this work, the thermodynamic behavior of catalytic esterification reaction equilibrium and vapor–liquid equilibria (VLE) for the quaternary reactive system acetic acid + butan-1-ol + butyl acetate + water and constituent binary systems acetic acid + butyl acetate, butan-1-ol + butyl acetate, and butan-1-ol + water have been determined at 101.3 kPa, and liquid–liquid equilibria (LLE) of the binary system butan-1-ol + water have also been determined. Vapor−liquid equilibria for trichloroethylene + 1-butanol, and + 2-butanol are reported at 20 and 100 kPa. The two systems satisfy the point-to-point thermodynamic consistency test. Both systems show a positive deviation from ideality.

The accuracy of experimental measurements was ±0.1 K in temperature, ±0.01 kPa in pressure, and ±0.001 in mole fraction. The results were determined to be thermodynamically consistent according to the point-to-point consistency and Wisniak tests. All the systems show moderate positive deviations from ideality. Density measurements of poly(ethylene oxide)13−poly(propylene oxide)30−poly(ethylene oxide)13 (L64)−water and alcohol−L64−water systems were carried out at 293 and 301 K. The alcohols studied are propanol to pentanol and 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (F3EtOH) to 2,2,3,3,4,4,4-heptafluorobutanol (F7BuOH). From the experimental data of the water−L64 binary system as functions of L64 concentration (mC), the partial molar volumes of L64 in the standard state and in the aqueous and micellar phases were calculated. We report initial results from a quasi-simultaneous X-ray/optical observing campaign targeting V4046 Sgr, a close, synchronous-rotating classical T Tauri star (CTTS) binary in which both components are actively accreting. V4046 Sgr is a strong X-ray source, with the X-rays mainly arising from high-density (n_e ~ 10^(11-12) cm^(-3)) plasma at temperatures of 3-4 MK. Our multiwavelength campaign aims to simultaneously constrain the properties of this X-ray emitting plasma, the large scale magnetic field, and the accretion geometry. This paper analyzes the effect of gravity on polymer solutions near the consolute point. Calculations are carried out for monodisperse polystyrene in cyclohexane using the Flory-Huggins expression with a concentration-dependent interaction parameter for the free energy of mixing. Depending on molecular weight and distance to the demixing temperature, the influence of gravity leads to non-negligible gradients of the volume fraction in the one-phase region as well as in the two-phase region. In particular, the effect of gravity on the measurement of the coexistence curve in a finite sample is calculated explicitly.
Spectroscopic Observations of the Delta Scorpii Binary during Its Recent Periastron Passage

The bright star delta Sco has been considered a typical B0-type object for many years. Spectra of the star published prior to 1990 showed no evidence of emission, but only of short-term line profile variations attributed to nonradial pulsations. Speckle interferometric observations show that delta Sco is a binary system with a highly-eccentric orbit and a period of 10.6 years. Weak emission in the H-alpha line was detected in its spectrum for the first time during a periastron passage in 1990. Effect of tetrahydrofuran on the conductance and ion-pairing of hydrogen chloride in wet and dry methanol mixtures

The molar conductance of dilute solutions of HCl in wet (68.5% methanol + 31.5% tetrahydrofurane mixtures at 25°C have been measured. The data were analyzed using the Fuoss-Hsia equation to calculate the infinite dilution molar conductances and association constants. The trend of the limiting conductances in these mixtures as a function of the water content shows, once more, the peculiar minimum due to the anomalous proton conductance mechanism. From these data the limiting molar conductance in the anhydrous binary solvent system was evaluated. The percentage excess proton mobility with respect to potassium ion has also been determined.
