Isobaric vapor−liquid equilibria data were obtained for the 3-methylpentane + 2-methyl-2-propanol binary system and methyl 1,1-dimethylethyl ether + 3-methylpentane + 2-methyl-2-propanol ternary system at 101.3 kPa in a temperature range from 329 to 356 K. The data were found to be thermodynamically consistent according to the Van Ness−Byer−Gibbs method for the binary system and according to the McDermott−Ellis method for the ternary one. The binary system shows a minimum boiling azeotrope that boils at 333.4 K and contains 82.6 mol % of 3-methylpentane. Self-diffusion coefficients of 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene (TIB) in binary solutions with polystyrene and ternary mixtures comprised of TIB, toluene, and polystyrene have been measured by static gradient nuclear magnetic resonance (SG-NMR) techniques. These data, as well as mutual-diffusion coefficient data measured by capillary column inverse gas chromatography (CCIGC), have been analyzed here with the Vrentas-Duda free-volume diffusion model. Although both binary and ternary diffusion coefficient data can be accurately correlated with the model, the results contradict those of an earlier investigation, which suggested that TIB diffuses as a single unit in polystyrene solutions. Binary Patterns in Infinite Binary Words

In this paper we study the set P(w) of binary patterns that can occur in one infinite binary word w, comparing it with the set F(w) of factors of the word. Since the set P(w) can be considered as an extension of the set F(w), we first investigate how large is such extension, by introducing the parameter ?(w) that corresponds to the cardinality of the difference set P(w) \ F(w). Some non trivial results about such parameter are obtained in the case of the Thue-Morse and the Fibonacci words. A possible solution of the puzzling variation of the orbital period of MXB 1659-298

MXB 1659-298 is a transient neutron star Low-Mass X-ray binary system that shows eclipses with a periodicity of 7.1 hr. The source went to outburst in August 2015 after 14 years of quiescence. We investigate the orbital properties of this source with a baseline of 40 years obtained combining the eight eclipse arrival times present in literature with 51 eclipse arrival times collected during the last two outbursts. A quadratic ephemeris does not fit the delays associated with the eclipse arrival times and the addition of a sinusoidal term with a period of $2.31 \pm 0.02$ yr is required. This paper reports experimental densities and refractive indices of binary and ternary systems containing isobutyl alcohol, ethanol, 2-methylpentane, and methyl tert-butyl ether over the whole composition range of mixtures at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. From these data, excess molar volumes VE have been calculated. These results are fitted to the Redlich−Kister and Cibulka polynomial equations to derive the binary and ternary coefficients, respectively.

Abstract Isobaric vapor–liquid equilibria for the 1-propanol + 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide ([emim [DCA] binary system and for the 1-propanol + water + [emim] [DCA] ternary system have been obtained at 100 kPa using a recirculating still. The electrolyte nonrandom two-liquid (e-NRTL) model was used for fitting successfully the experimental data. The effect of [emim][DCA] on the 1-propanol + water system has been compared with that produced by other ionic liquids reported in the literature. The ethanol + water binary system was also obtained. Furthermore, data were simulated with the Mock’s electrolyte nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) model, using the solvent−solvent interaction parameters obtained from VLE data of the ethanol + water system and taking the solvent−ionic liquid (IL) interaction parameters for the other binary systems from previous works.
