Reduced protein adsorption on plastics via direct plasma deposition of triethylene glycol monoallyl ether

The direct plasma-induced deposition of tri(ethylene glycol) monoallyl ether is reported. RF plasma polymerization of this monomer was carried out under both continuous wave (CW) and pulsed plasma operation. The major focus of this work was optimization of the degree of retention of the C-O-C bonds of the starting monomer during the deposition process. This successfully was accomplished using low RF power during the CW runs and low RF duty cycles during the pulsed plasma experiments. Crosslinked spherical nanoparticles based on trimethoxysilane monomers have been prepared by polycondensation in aqueous emulsion. These particles have been labeled chemically at their surface region with two different types of organic dye molecules (cinnamate, coumarin), which both are well known for their ability to undergo a reversible photodimerization if irradiated with light of a suitable wavelength. A Nanoparticulate Drug-Delivery System for Rivastigmine: Physico-Chemical and in vitro Biological Characterization

The preparation and characterization of surface-PEGylated polymeric nanoparticles are described. These systems were obtained by UV irradiation of PHM and PHM-PEG 2000 as an inverse microemulsion, using an aqueous solution of the PHM/PHM-PEG 2000 copolymer mixture as the internal phase and triacetin saturated with water as the external phase, and characterized by dimensional analysis, zeta-potential measurements and XPS. in vitro biological tests demonstrated their cell compatibility and their ability to escape from phagocytosis. Rivastigmine was encapsulated into the nanoparticle structure and drug-release profiles from loaded samples were investigated in PBS at pH = 7.4 and human plasma.

The dielectric properties of aqueous solutions of α,β-poly(aspartyl hydrazide) (PAHy) and of α,β-poly( N-hydroxyethyl aspartamide) (PHEA) were measured at 25 ° C in the frequency range of 100 MHz to 15 GHz using a time domain reflection method (TDR). Single time relaxation processes were found at 2 GHz and 15 GHz, respectively. The low frequency dispersion was inter preted in terms of the dynamics of polymeric segments based on the dielectric relaxation strength and the relaxation time. Zeta-Potential Study of Calcium Silicate Hydrates Interacting with Alkaline Cations

An investigation into the interaction between alkaline cations and calcium silicate hydrates (CSH) was conducted by electrokinetic measurements, which provided information on the nature of the interface between the solid and its equilibrium solution. Calcium constitutes for the CSH surface a potential-determining cation. A model of the CSH surface could be proposed, accounting for the experimental evolution of the CSH zeta potential. The necessity of studying the zeta-potential evolution of the system as a function of the calcium activity, instead of its concentration, was underlined. The fine adjustments required to fit copper nutritional demands for optimal growth are illustrated by the diverse, severe symptoms resulting from copper deficiency and excess. Background Dental implant temporization remains a clinical challenge. A novel abutment simplifying the procedure was developed, but conventional fabrication was costly and unpredictable. A workflow was developed to fabricate the novel abutment using additive manufacturing. Generic Method for Modular Surface Modification of Cellulosic Materials in Aqueous Medium by Sequential Click-Reaction and Adsorption

A generic approach for heterogeneous surface modification of cellulosic materials in aqueous medium, applicable for a wide range of functionalizations, is presented. In the first step, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) modified with azide or alkyne functionality, was adsorbed on a cellulosic substrate, thus, providing reactive sites for azide–alkyne cycloaddition click reactions. Supramolecular vesicular aggregates (SVAs) have the advantage of combining the safe and biocompatible properties of colloidal vesicular carriers based on phospholipids with those of polymeric materials, i.e. polyaspartyl-hydrazide (PAHy) copolymers.
