Cooperativity of H-bonding and anion–π interaction in the binding of anions with neutral π-acceptors

A rare anion-π complex between bromide and a neutral receptor is reported and related receptor systems are studied with a series of anions. The interaction is observed in the solid state and in solution, and further evidence for it is obtained by a computational study.

Current concepts of activation of the alternative pathway of complement (APC) focus on the central role of an amplification mechanism triggered by C3b which is covalently bound to the surfact of activating substances. Using sulfated polyanions as model substances, an efficient fluid-phase activation of complement is demonstrated in contrast to solid-phase activation. It is shown that particulate high-molecular weight sulfated polyanions are capable of reversible binding the guinea pig and human regulatory protein beta1H. CH-Directed Anion-π Interactions in the Crystals of Pentafluorobenzyl-Substituted Ammonium and Pyridinium Salts

Simple pentafluorobenzyl-substituted ammonium and pyridinium salts with different anions can be easily obtained by treatment of the parent amine or pyridine with the respective pentafluorobenzyl halide. Hexafluorophosphate is introduced as the anion by salt metathesis. In the case of the ammonium salt 4, water co-crystallisation seems to suppress effective anion-pi interactions of bromide with the electron-deficient aromatic system, whereas with salts 5 and 6 such interactions are observed despite the presence of water. New anionic cobalt complexes using highly hindered bis-amides with varying donor abilities as ligands.

Four potential tetradentate ligands of formulae 1,2-bis-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzamido)ethane (H(4)L(1), 1), 1,2-bis-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzamido)propane (H(4)L(2), 2), 1,2-bis-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzamido)benzene (H(4)L(3), 3) and 1,8-bis-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzamido)naphthalene (H(4)L(4), 4) have been prepared and the crystal structures of three of them (1, 3 and 4) determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Polyfunctional recognition of pyridinedicarboxylate anions with macrocyclic polyamine receptors containing heteroaromatic groups.

The interaction of the biologically relevant anions deriving from the six pyridinedicarboxylic acids (H2PDC) with two macrocyclic receptors containing a pentamine chain and a bipyridine (1) or a phenanthroline (2) moiety, as well as with the aliphatic analogue [21]aneN7 (3), was studied by means of spectroscopic methods (UV-vis, NMR) and potentiometric titrations affording the stability constants of the adducts formed. In the title compound, C(30)H(48)NO(3)(+) x Cl(-) x H(2)O, the cation acts with a water molecule as a chloride ion receptor. The chloride ion forms three strong intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The water molecule forms both an intramolecular bridge between one phenol H atom and the chloride ion, and an intermolecular link to the aliphatic alcohol O atom. Weak intermolecular C-H...Cl and C-H ...O hydrogen bonds provide additional packing interactions.

Synthesis, Structure and Anion Sensing Properties of a Dicationic Bis(imidazolium)-Based Cyclophane

The preparation and sensing properties of a tetracyclic cyclophane receptor containing two imidazolium rings as anion binding sites and two fluorene rings as fluorescent signaling units, are reported. The receptor behaves as a selective fluorescent chemosensor molecule for inorganic phosphates. H-NMR spectroscopical data clearly indicate the simultaneous occurrence of charge-assisted aromatic and aliphatic C−H noncovalent interactions. PCM/DFT calculations have been carried out to predict the structures of the complexes formed with one and two molecules of PF , HPO and HPO .

Experimental and Theoretical Studies of Nonclassical d 0 Cyclopentadienyl Polyhydride Complexes of Molybdenum and Tungsten

Low-temperature protonation of compounds Cp{sup *}MH{sub 5}(PMe{sub 3}) (M = Mo, 1; W, 2) by HBF{sub 4}{center_dot}Et{sub 2}O in CD{sub 2}Cl{sub 2} or CDFCl{sub 2} affords the thermally unstable hexahydride derivatives [Cp{sup *}MH{sub 6}(PMe{sub 3})]{sup +} (M = Mo, 3; W, 4). The corresponding protonation of 1- and 2-d{sup 5} affords 3- and 4-d{sup 5}, respectively. The {Delta}{delta} on going from H{sub 6} to HD{sub 5} is small for both compounds, but positive for 3 and negative for 4, and no isotopic perturbation of resonance (IPR) is observed.
