From anti-fouling to biofilm inhibition: New cytotoxic secondary metabolites from two Indonesian Agelas sponges
2010
Chemical investigation of Indonesian marine sponges Agelas linnaei and A. nakamurai afforded 24 alkaloid derivatives representing either bromopyrrole or diterpene alkaloids. A. linnaei yielded 16 bromopyrrole alkaloids including 11 new natural products with the latter exhibiting unusual functionalities. The new compounds include the first iodinated tyramine-unit bearing pyrrole alkaloids, agelanesins A-D. These compounds exhibited cytotoxic activity against L5178Y mouse lymphoma cells with IC(50) values between 9.25 and 16.76 muM. Further new compounds include taurine acid substituted bromopyrrole alkaloids and a new dibromophakellin derivative. A. nakamurai yielded eight alkaloids among th…
Structural and spectroscopic study of the Br2...3-Br-pyridine complex by DFT calculations.
2007
Abstract The structure and the Raman vibrational spectrum of the complex Br 2 ⋯3-Br-pyridine are determined by DFT calculations using different parametrizations. The calculations are performed taking into account the effects of the dichloromethane as solvent by the CPCM method. A value of 39 kJ mol −1 for the formation enthalpy and of 1 kJ mol −1 for the formation free energy at room temperature in presence of the solvent is found. The predicted Raman spectrum is compared with the experimental one and the essential features of the spectrum are well reproduced by the B3LYP parametrization. The intensity changes of the bands when going from the free moieties to the complex are also generally …
Analyses of known and new types of polyhalogenated aromatic substances in oven ash from recycled aluminium production
2003
Abstract Persistent aromatic bromine, chlorine and mixed chlorine-bromine compounds were analysed from recycled aluminium smelter (ALS) ashes to explore the impact of brominated flame retardants (BFR) on their formation. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) were the most abundant original BFRs found. Induction furnace ash contained tetra- to octa-BDEs about 2000 ng g −1 in similar congener ratios as the original scrap, but contents of nona- and deca-BDEs were only 25 and 5 ng g −1 indicating their significant degradation in ALS process. In the most non-polar fraction, PCB levels and profiles were similar as earlier ALS ash samples in 1990s. The highest PCB level measured was that of deca-C…
1H and13C NMR spectroscopy of brominated diphenyl ethers. A multiple linear regression analysis
2000
The 1H and 13C NMR chemical shifts and 1H, 1H coupling constants of 27 brominated diphenyl ethers are reported. The increment models for the bromine substituent effects on the 1H and 13C NMR chemical shifts were constructed based on a multiple linear regression analysis. In addition to the single substituent effects, two particle increments and corrective terms for conformational effects are included in these models in order to obtain a reliable prediction of chemical shifts. 4-Bromophenyl 2,6-dibromophenyl ether
2002
The title compound, C12H7Br3O, is an example of a compound related to some important flame retardants, e.g. decabromodiphenyl ether. Salient intermolecular interactions are the short contacts between the bromine substituents and the C atoms of the aromatic ring system. The molecules make up chains through these short Br⋯C contacts; these chains pack into sheets parallel to the ab plane, and copies of these sheets pack on to each other along the c axis in a tweed-like pattern.
Bromine speciation in volcanic plumes: new in situ derivatization LC-MS method for the determination of gaseous hydrogen bromide by gas diffusion den…
2020
The chemical characterization of volcanic gas emissions gives insights into the interior of volcanoes. Monitoring of BrO/SO2-ratios has recently been correlated with changes in the activity of a volcano. BrO and SO2 can both be measured autonomously and simultaneously with the same instruments from a safe distance, making their ratio potentially a strong monitoring tool. However, BrO is not a primary emitted volcanic volatile and there exist still uncertainties about the formation of BrO in volcanic plumes, mostly due to the lack of analytical approaches for the accurate speciation of certain key compounds. This study describes a new method for the determination of the BrO precursor, the ga…
The volatile inventory (F, Cl, Br, S, C) of magmatic apatite: An integrated analytical approach
2012
Abstract Apatite is ubiquitous in a wide range of magmatic rocks and its F–Cl–Br–S systematics can be used to decipher e.g., mixing processes within a magmatic complex and may give insights into fluid un-mixing and degassing processes during the emplacement and cooling of plutonic rocks. In this study, we analyzed a F-apatite (Durango, Mexico), a Cl-apatite (Odegarden, Norway) and apatites from five plutonic samples from the alkaline Mt. Saint Hilaire Complex (Canada) by means of Electron Microprobe Analysis (EPMA), Laser Ablation ICP-MS (LA-ICP-MS), Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS), pyrohydrolysis combined with ion chromatography, Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Ins…
A rapid procedure for the determination of caffeine, theophylline and theobromine in urine by micellar liquid chromatography and direct sample inject…
1995
Abstract A liquid chromatographic procedure for the determination of caffeine, theophylline and theobromine in urine samples is described. The proposed system uses a Spherisorb octadecyl-silane ODS-2 C18 analytical column and a guard column of similar characteristics. The UV detector was set at 273 nm. A study to adequately select the composition of the micellar mobile phase for the separation of these compounds in urine samples is performed. Maximum resolution was achieved with a 0.075 M sodium dodecylsulphate-1.5% propanol eluent. Limits of detection at 273 nm ranged between 0.4 μg/ml for theobromine and theophylline and 1.2 μg/ml for caffeine. The procedure allows the determination of th…
Enhanced nanoscopy of individual CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals using dielectric sub-micrometric antennas
2020
We demonstrate an efficient, simple, and low-cost approach for enhanced nanoscopy in individual green emitting perovskite (CsPbBr3) nanocrystals via TiO2 dielectric nanoantenna. The observed three- to five-fold emission enhancement is attributed to near-field effects and emission steering promoted by the coupling between the perovskite nanocrystals and the dielectric sub-micrometric antennas. The dark-field scattering configuration is then exploited for surface-enhanced absorption measurements, showing a large increase in detection sensitivity, leading to the detection of individual nanocrystals. Due to the broadband spectral response of the Mie sub-micrometric antennas, the method can be e…
