Abstract A new method for the numerical solution of ODEs is presented. This approach is based on an approximate formulation of the Taylor methods that has a much easier implementation than the original Taylor methods, since only the functions in the ODEs, and not their derivatives, are needed, just as in classical Runge–Kutta schemes. Compared to Runge–Kutta methods, the number of function evaluations to achieve a given order is higher, however with the present procedure it is much easier to produce arbitrary high-order schemes, which may be important in some applications. Effects of PET packaging on the quality of an orange juice made from concentrate
2004
An orange juice made from concentrate was conditioned in three different PET (PolyEthylene Terephtalate) and glass packagings. Influence of storage conditions (length of storage, light, oxygen) on vitamin C content, browning index, and colour were measured. Results show that permeability to oxygen of PET packagings is the major factor detrimentally affecting the above parameters.

Purpose To evaluate the improvement of sensibility of the new IOL-Master version 5.4.3 compared with the version 4.08. Methods 214 eyes of 115 patients were examined in a cataract preoperative evaluation making use of both IOL-Master software versions 5.4.3 and 4.08. The type and severity of the lens opacification was assessed by slitlamp biomicroscopy. Results In 182 of the eyes examined both versions were capable to determine the AL; in 29 the version 4.01 could not determine AL whereas the version 5.4.3 was able to measure it; these cases showed posterior capsular cataract (16), dense nuclear cataract (11), posterior synechiae (1) and asteroid hyalosis (1). Robustness of the Gaussian concentration inequality and the Brunn–Minkowski inequality

We provide a sharp quantitative version of the Gaussian concentration inequality: for every $r>0$, the difference between the measure of the $r$-enlargement of a given set and the $r$-enlargement of a half-space controls the square of the measure of the symmetric difference between the set and a suitable half-space. We also prove a similar estimate in the Euclidean setting for the enlargement with a general convex set. This is equivalent to the stability of the Brunn-Minkowski inequality for the Minkowski sum between a convex set and a generic one.
