In situ AFM study of proton-assisted electrochemical oxidation/reduction of microparticles of organic dyes

In situ atomic force microscopy (AFM) images of crystals of organic dyes alizarin, indigo and morin have been monitored during the course of their solid-state electrochemical oxidation/reduction in contact with aqueous acetate buffer. Such images indicate that proton-assisted reduction and oxidation processes are localized in a shallow layer in the vicinity of the particle/electrolyte interface, in agreement with expectances from the Lovric and Scholz model with significantly restricted proton diffusion across the solids. Identification of passive layers on Co in Alkaline solutions by photocurrent spectroscopy

The photoelectrochemical behavior of passive films on Co has been studied as a function of the polarizing voltage and electrolyte composition. Passive layers formed at 0 V (standard hydrogen electrode, SHE) in 0.1 M NaOH consisted of Co(OH) 2 , whose bandgap value has been found to be 1.85 eV. Higher bandgap values (2.75 eV) have been measured for passive films formed in borate buffer at 0 V (SHE), which are mainly consist of CoO. The Eg values have been related to the film composition on the basis of a correlation between the bandgap of passive films and the electronegativity of their constituents.

Effect of temperature on the passive state of Alloy 31 in a LiBr solution: Passivation and Mott-Schottky analysis

The passive behaviour of Alloy 31, a highly-alloyed austenitic stainless steel (UNS N08031), has been investigated in a LiBr heavy brine (700 g/l) at different temperatures using potentiostatic polarisation and Mott-Schottky analysis. Cation vacancies have been found to be the dominant defect in the passive films formed on Alloy 31. An increase in temperature enhanced the generation of cation vacancies at the film/solution interface and raised the steady-state passive current density. The density of defects within the passive film also increased significantly with temperature, making the film more conductive and less protective against localised attacks.

The binding of didesmethylpromazine, promazine N-oxide, 2-hydroxypromazine, promazine sulfoxide, monodesmethylpromazine sulfoxide, didesmethylchlorpromazine, chlorpromazine N-oxide, and chlorpromazine sulfoxide to bovine serum albumin was determined by means of sephadex gel filtration. 2. Abstract Electrodeposition of copper from Cu/MOF immersed into acetate buffer produces a quasi-periodic series of 10–20 nm sized laminae sandwiched within the pristine MOF lattice as monitored by voltammetry of microparticles/atomic force microscopy. This anisotropic patterning can be qualitatively described in terms of a highly orientation-dependent diffusion of electrons and charge-balancing electrolyte counterions in the MOF network.

It was extended to an enzyme-generated cationic product for the indirect determination of alkaline phosphatase (AP). Native Paralithodes camtschaticae hemocyanin is found as a mixture of dodecamers (24S; 80%) and hexamers (16S; 20%). Removal of Ca2+ ions by dialysis against EDTA-containing buffer solution at neutral pH induces complete dissociation of the 24S form into the 16S form. Under these conditions, a further increase in pH to 9.2 produces complete dissociation of the hexamers into monomers (5S). In both cases, the dissociation process is reversible. Abstract PLA/PCL co-mingled nanofibrous mats were prepared via multi-jet electrospinning. The concentration of PLA and PCL in the co-mingled mats were controlled by changing the flow rate of the two polymer solutions. The amount of PLA and PCL in the co-mingled nanofibrous mats was monitored by UV–Vis measurements through a colored dye added to PLA and by FTIR-ATR analysis.
