Tick-borne bacteria in Ixodes ricinus collected in southern Norway evaluated by a commercial kit and established real-time PCR protocols
2015
Ticks are important vectors of human pathogens. The knowledge of disease causing agents harboured by ticks in Norway is limited. The focus of this study was (a) to detect the bacteria of medical importance in ticks collected from the vegetation at locations in the southern part of the country and (b) to evaluate a novel commercially available multiplex PCR based method by comparing results with conventional established real-time PCR protocols. Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato was confirmed to be the most prevalent pathogen detected (31%) among one hundred individually analysed adult ticks. Borrelia miyamotoi, a spirochete associated with relapsing fever, was detected in one sample. Anaplasma…

Niemieckojęzyczna literatura ojczyźniana była domem reformacji poszczególnych postaci z różnych niemieckich krajobrazów i w ten sposób przekształciła je w ruch chrześcijańsko-niemiecki. Artykuł nakreśla na podstawie koncepcji i poetyckiego języka kulturalno-historycznej powieści E. v. „Ilsabe” Maltzahn (1897), jej aktualność w radzeniu sobie z kryzysem i sytuacją wstrząsów w społeczeństwie niemieckim około 1900 r. i później.
Properties of Thin Ferroelectric Film with Different Electrodes
2008
The influence of different metallic and semiconducting electrodes on the properties of thin ferroelectric films is considered within the framework of the phenomenological Ginzburg-Landau theory. Allowing for the effect of charge screening in metals and semiconductors, the contribution of electric field produced by charges in the electrodes is included into the functional of free energy and, hence, to the Euler-Lagrange equation for film polarization. Application of variational method to this equation solution permitted the transformation of the free energy functional into a conventional type free energy with a renormalized coefficient before P 2 , the coefficient being dependent on the both…
Depolarization Field in Thin Ferroelectric Films With Account of Semiconductor Electrodes
2005
Within the framework of the phenomenological Ginzburg-Landau theory influence of semiconductor electrodes on the properties of thin ferroelectric films is considered. The contribution of the semiconductor electrodes with different Debye screening length of carriers is included in the functional of free energy. The influence of highly doped semiconductor electrodes on the depolarization field and the film properties was shown to be great.
A numerical approach to Blow-up issues for dispersive perturbations of Burgers' equation
2014
We provide a detailed numerical study of various issues pertaining to the dynamics of the Burgers equation perturbed by a weak dispersive term: blow-up in finite time versus global existence, nature of the blow-up, existence for "long" times, and the decomposition of the initial data into solitary waves plus radiation. We numerically construct solitons for fractionary Korteweg-de Vries equations.
A remark on the radial minimizer of the Ginzburg-Landau functional
2014
Let Omega subset of R-2 be a bounded domain with the same area as the unit disk B-1 and letE-epsilon(u, Omega) = 1/2 integral(Omega) vertical bar del u vertical bar(2) dx + 1/4 epsilon(2) integral(Omega) (vertical bar u vertical bar(2) - 1)(2) dxbe the Ginzburg-Landau functional. Denote by (u) over tilde (epsilon) the radial solution to the Euler equation associated to the problem min {E-epsilon (u, B-1) : u vertical bar(partial derivative B1) = x} and byK = {v = (v(1), v(2)) is an element of H-1 (Omega; R-2) : integral(Omega) v(1) dx = integral(Omega) v(2) dx = 0,integral(Omega) vertical bar v vertical bar(2) dx >= integral(B1) vertical bar(u) over tilde vertical bar(2) dx}.In this note…
Numerical study of shock formation in the dispersionless Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation and dispersive regularizations
2013
The formation of singularities in solutions to the dispersionless Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (dKP) equation is studied numerically for different classes of initial data. The asymptotic behavior of the Fourier coefficients is used to quantitatively identify the critical time and location and the type of the singularity. The approach is first tested in detail in 1+1 dimensions for the known case of the Hopf equation, where it is shown that the break-up of the solution can be identified with prescribed accuracy. For dissipative regularizations of this shock formation as the Burgers' equation and for dispersive regularizations as the Korteweg-de Vries equation, the Fourier coefficients indicate as …
Parenting Stress, Mental Health, Dyadic Adjustment: A Structural Equation Model
2017
Objective: In the 1st year of the post-partum period, parenting stress, mental health, and dyadic adjustment are important for the wellbeing of both parents and the child. However, there are few studies that analyze the relationship among these three dimensions. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationships between parenting stress, mental health (depressive and anxiety symptoms), and dyadic adjustment among first-time parents. Method: We studied 268 parents (134 couples) of healthy babies. At 12 months post-partum, both parents filled out, in a counterbalanced order, the Parenting Stress Index-Short Form, the Edinburgh Post-natal Depression Scale, the State-Trait Anxiety Invent…
Roman wood sculptures from Burgundy
2013
For the first time, the corpus of Roman wood sculptures from Burgundy is gathered together in a catalogue, with added photographic documents and bibliography. The twenty-five sculptures are listed and studied from a stylistic, iconographic and technical point of view. In the XIIth century, an actual school of monastic wood sculpture seemed to develop within the boundaries of the duchy of Burgundy, bringing a great diversity as far as formal and technical contributions are concerned. The sculptures that are the most representative to help the understanding of those numerous contributions are thoroughly studied. Their stylistic relationships with manuscripts dating back from the Carolingian R…
