Intramolecular coupling of acetylenic groups of bis(alkynyl)phosphanes and silanes mediated by benzynezirconocene: a route to new mono- and tricyclic…
2004
Benzo-zirconacyclohexadiene-phospha or silacyclobutene fused ring systems are easily prepared via a benzynezirconocene intermediate by means of thermolysis of Cp 2 ZrPh 2 in the presence of bis(alkynyl)phosphanes or silanes. These polyunsaturated systems are the source of a variety of new mono- or tricyclic heterocycles incorporating either one or two heteroatoms.
Synthesis of Natural Products By Rhodium-Mediated Intramolecular C-H Insertion
1998
The strategic advantages of the Rh-mediated intramolecular C–H insertion, which has been used as the key step in several natural product syntheses, are described here. The most recent such synthesis is the elegant route to (+)-morphine shown below.
ChemInform Abstract: Light Induced C-C Coupling of 2-Chlorobenzazoles with Carbamates, Alcohols, and Ethers.
2016
A light induced, transition-metal-free C-C coupling reaction of 2-chlorobenzazoles with aliphatic carbamates, alcohols, and ethers is presented. Inexpensive reagents, namely sodium acetate, benzophenone, water, and acetonitrile, are employed in a simple reaction protocol using a cheap and widely available 25 W energy saving UV-A lamp at ambient temperature.
Proximity Effect using a Nanocage Structure: Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane-Imidazolium Tetrachloro- palladate Salt as a Precatalyst for the Su…
2016
A polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane-imidazolium tetrachloropalladate salt (POSS-Imi-PdCl4) was prepared by the reaction of a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane-imidazolium chloride salt (POSS-Imi-Cl) with PdCl2 and used as a pre-catalyst for the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction in water at 100 °C at a low loading (0.08-0.16 mol %). Biphenyl compounds were isolated in high to excellent yields. A comparison of the POSS-based catalyst with the corresponding catalyst without the nanocage structure (i.e., 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrachloropalladate) highlighted the role of the POSS structure to reach higher yields in the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction. This result is ascribed to a proximity effect of …
Templating effect of carbon nanoforms on highly cross-linked imidazolium network: Catalytic activity of the resulting hybrids with Pd nanoparticles
2019
Two different carbon nanoforms (CNFs), namely multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and carbon nanohorns (CNHs), have been chosen as support for the direct polymerization of a bis-vinylimidazolium salt. Transmission electron microscopy analyses revealed a templating effect of the CNFs on the growth of the polymeric network, which perfectly covers their whole surfaces creating a cylindrical or spherical coating for MWCNTs and CNHs, respectively. Subsequently, the CNFs-polyimidazolium have been used as stabilizers for Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs), and the obtained materials have been characterized by means of analytical and spectroscopic techniques and then employed as easily recoverable and re…
The role of the low-lying dark np* states in the photophysics of pyrazine: a quantum dynamics study
2014
The excited state dynamics of pyrazine has attracted considerable attention in the last three decades. It has long been recognized that after UV excitation, the dynamics of the molecule is impacted by strong non-adiabatic effects due to the existence of a conical intersection between the B2u(ππ*) and B3u(nπ*) electronic states. However, a recent study based on trajectory surface hopping dynamics simulations suggested the participation of the Au(nπ*) and B2g(nπ*) low-lying dark electronic states in the ultrafast radiationless decay of the molecule after excitation to the B2u(ππ*) state. The purpose of this work was to pursue the investigation of the role of the Au(nπ*) and B2g(nπ*) states in…
Adenine and 2-aminopurine: Paradigms of modern theoretical photochemistry
2006
Distinct photophysical behavior of nucleobase adenine and its constitutional isomer, 2-aminopurine, has been studied by using quantum chemical methods, in particular an accurate ab initio multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory. After light irradiation, the efficient, ultrafast energy dissipation observed for nonfluorescent 9H-adenine is explained here by the nonradiative internal conversion process taking place along a barrierless reaction path from the initially populated 1 (ππ* L a ) excited state toward a low-lying conical intersection (CI) connected with the ground state. In contrast, the strong fluorescence recorded for 2-aminopurine at 4.0 eV with large decay lifetime …
Identifying Vibrations that Control Non-adiabatic Relaxation of Polaritons in Strongly Coupled Molecule-Cavity Systems
2022
The strong light–matter coupling regime, in which excitations of materials hybridize with excitations of confined light modes into polaritons, holds great promise in various areas of science and technology. A key aspect for all applications of polaritonic chemistry is the relaxation into the lower polaritonic states. Polariton relaxation is speculated to involve two separate processes: vibrationally assisted scattering (VAS) and radiative pumping (RP), but the driving forces underlying these two mechanisms are not fully understood. To provide mechanistic insights, we performed multiscale molecular dynamics simulations of tetracene molecules strongly coupled to the confined light modes of an…
Calculation of magnetic coupling constants with hybrid density functionals
2013
The currently available computational methods for the calculation of magnetic coupling constants with density functional theory have been reviewed. These methods include modern approximations to the exchangecorrelation functional, such as hybrid, range-separated and double-hybrid functionals, as well as approaches to treat the severe spin symmetry problems encountered in density functional calculations of magnetic interactions. In addition to the commonly used unrestricted Kohn–Sham formalism, density functional methods based on multireference wave functions and ensemble densities are also discussed. Performance of these models based on various studies has been summarized. The results indic…
