Evidence for specific, high-affinity binding sites for a proteinaceous elicitor in tobacco plasma membrane

Abstract Binding of cryptogein, a proteinaceous elicitor, was studied on tobacco plasma membrane. The binding of the [125I]cryptogein was saturable, reversible and specific with an apparent Kd of 2 nM. A single class of cryptogein binding sites was found with a sharp optimum pH for binding at about pH 7.0. The high-affinity correlates with cryptogein concentrations required for biological activity in vivo.

Several studies focusing on elucidating the mechanism of NO (nitric oxide) signalling in plant cells have highlighted that its biological effects are partly mediated by protein kinases. The identity of these kinases and details of how NO modulates their activities, however, remain poorly investigated. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can play a key role in natural and agricultural ecosystems affecting plant nutrition, soil biological activity and modifying the availability of nutrients by plants. This research aimed at expanding the knowledge of the role played by AMF in the uptake of macro- and micronutrients and N transfer (using a 15 N stem-labelling method) in a faba bean/wheat intercropping system. Abstract Coastal ecosystems are increasingly threatened by a wide range of human activities. Fish otolith chemistry, by creating a unique specific signature, can be used as a natural tag for determining life stage dispersal, spatial connectivity and population structure. In this study, we tested whether differences in otolith composition among juveniles of gilthead sea bream, Sparus aurata, could enable their proper allocation to polluted areas based on higher concentrations of elements related to contaminants. [EN] Ruminal fluid was inoculated in an Anaerobic Membrane Reactor (AnMBR) to produce biogas from raw Scenedesmus. This work explores the microbial ecology of the system during stable operation at different solids retention times (SRT). The 16S rRNA amplicon analysis revealed that the acclimatised community was mainly composed of Anaerolineaceae, Spirochaetaceae, Lentimicrobiaceae and Cloacimonetes fermentative and hydrolytic members. Stabilization of an enzymatic extract from Penicillium camemberti containing lipoxygenase and hydroperoxide lyase activities

International audience; The stabilization of an enzymatic extract, obtained from Penicillium camemberti containing lipoxygenase (LOX) and hydroperoxide lyase (HPL) activities, was investigated using selected additives. Although the addition of KCl (86%, w/w) to the enzymatic extract decreased slightly (7%) the LOX activity, it increased HPL activity by 2.25 fold; however, the addition of dextran resulted in the inactivation of both enzymatic activities. The stability of the solid lyophilized enzymatic extract was greater in the presence of KCl than that without it, with ∼100% residual activity after 8 and 4 weeks of storage at −80 °C, for LOX and HPL, respectively. The plasma membrane oxidase NtrbohD is responsible for AOS production in elicited tobacco cells

Summary A cDNA encoding a protein, NtrbohD, located on the plasma membrane and homologue to the flavocytochrome of the neutrophil NADPH oxidase, was cloned in tobacco. The corresponding mRNA was accumulated when tobacco leaves and cells were treated with the fungal elicitor cryptogein. After elicitation with cryptogein, tobacco cells transformed with antisense constructs of NtrbohD showed the same extracellular alkalinization as the control, but no longer produced active oxygen species (AOS). This work represents the first demonstration of the function of a homologue of gp91–phox in AOS production in elicited tobacco cells.

Ocimum basilicum L. (Lamiaceae) is an aromatic plant of great tradition in the Mediterranean area. Its economic importance is growing up determining an expansion of cultivation. This paper evaluated the morphological traits, the chemical profiles, and antibacterial activity of 21 cultivars of basil belonging to Ê»Genoveseʼ, Ê»Napoletanoʼ, and Ê»Purple basilʼ types.
