Morphea after silicone gel breast implantation for cosmetic reasons in an HLA-B8,DR3-positive woman
1997
We describe an HLA-B8, DR3-positive patient with localized morphea after silicone gel breast implantation for cosmetic reasons. We believe that this case suggests that a genetic background, i.e. HLA-B8, DR3 haplotype, is involved in the autoimmune response to silicone.
Drug-induced expansion and differentiation of Vγ9Vδ2 T cells in vivo: The role of exogenous IL-2
2005
Human Vgamma9Vdelta2 T cells recognize nonpeptidic Ags generated by the 1-deoxy-d-xylulose 5-phosphate (many eubacteria, algae, plants, and Apicomplexa) and mevalonate (eukaryotes, archaebacteria, and certain eubacteria) pathways of isoprenoid synthesis. The potent Vgamma9Vdelta2 T cell reactivity 1) against certain cancer cells or 2) induced by infectious agents indicates that therapeutic augmentations of Vgamma9Vdelta2 T cell activities may be clinically beneficial. The functional characteristics of Vgamma9Vdelta2 T cells from Macaca fascicularis (cynomolgus monkey) are very similar to those from Homo sapiens. We have found that the i.v. administration of nitrogen-containing bisphosphonat…
Evaluation of soluble CD 14 and neopterin as serum parameters of the inflammatory activity of pulmonary sarcoidosis.
1992
CD14 represents the most specific marker for monocytes/macrophages. It has been demonstrated in vitro that monocytes/macrophages lose this antigen upon activation. Results of studies investigating the expression of membrane-bound CD14 on the surface of monocytes/macrophages in sarcoidosis patients are controversial. To investigate whether the soluble form of CD14 reflects monocyte/macrophage activation in sarcoidosis, serum levels of soluble CD14 were determined concurrently with other serum markers of monocyte/macrophage activation (neopterin, angiotensin-converting enzyme) in 50 consecutive patients with bioptically confirmed sarcoidosis. The patients were allocated to three groups accord…
Serum Malondialdehyde in HIV Seropositive Children
1998
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is associated with oxidative stress as it has been demonstrated in adult seropositive individuals. We show in this study that serum malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration of HIV infected children was significantly higher than in control children. Moreover, a statistically significant decreased serum antioxidant status was detected in HIV infected children when compared with controls. No correlation was found in HIV infected children between their clinical or immunological categories, CD4+ lymphocyte count or CD4+/CD8+ ratio, and MDA concentration or serum antioxidant status. Newborn from HIV seropositive mothers had also a higher MDA concentration i…
Immunophenotypical characterization in Andalusian horse: variations with age and gender.
2010
Abstract Assessment of lymphocyte subsets is an effective method for characterizing disorders such as leukemia, lymphomas, autoimmune and infectious diseases. In order to clinically interpret these parameters, normal reference values should be set, estimating age- and gender-related variations. This research aimed to: (1) characterize lymphocyte subpopulations in Andalusian horse, and (2) evaluate age and gender-related variations of lymphocyte subsets. Jugular blood samples were obtained from 159 animals, 77 males and 82 females, belonging to four age groups—1: 1–2 years (N = 39; 21 males and 18 females), 2: 2–3 years (N = 38; 16 males and 22 females), 3: 3–4 years (N = 41; 19 males and 22…
Evaluation of immunologic effect of Enniatin A and quantitative determination in feces, urine and serum on treated Wistar rats.
2014
Abstract Study of dietary supplementation with ENN A mycotoxin during 28 days of exposure time on Wistar rats to determinate its levels in serum, urine and feces and, to evaluate the immunologic effect in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) is presented. The first method for ENN A extraction, determination and detection by LC–MS/MS in serum, urine and feces samples is reported. ENN A food dose administrated was detected in serum samples and influenced lymphocyte phenotyping. Levels in serum were founded from the second week of the experiment; reaching values of 4.76 μg/ml on the fourth week, which corresponds to 3.24 μg/ml in blood. PBL as T helper (CD4 + ) were presented in greater percenta…
CD4/CD8 Ratio in Aqueous Humor in Uveitis
2013
Dear Editor,We present a case series report with a simple and reproducible method for anterior uveitis investigation. This method uses the CD4/CD8 ratio in aqueous humor, analyzed by flow cytometry...
Transfusion-associated graft-versus-host disease-report of two further cases with an immunohistochemical analysis
1994
Summary Transfusion-associated graft-vs.-host disease (tGVHD) is a severe disease usually affecting immunocompromised hosts with haematological neoplasia. Two patients with acute leukaemia are reported, who developed fatal tGVHD after blood transfusions. Intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1) and endothelial leucocyte adhesion molecule 1 (ELAM-1) expression and the CD4/CD8 ratio were assessed in lesional skin. ICAM-1 was strongly expressed on epidermal keratinocytes and endothelial cells (EC) and correlated with HLA-DR staining. VCAM-1 was strongly expressed on EC in the superficial dermal vessels. ELAM-1 stained weakly on EC in some of the su…
