Perceived differences between natural and convolution reverberation types in 5.0 surround sound

This Graduate Thesis investigates the perceived differences between natural and convolution reverberation in surround sound. Two spaces with distinct reverberation times were used for this study. Initially three musical excerpts from three instruments (Cello, Oboe, and Piano) were recorded in a dry studio environment. Then the Impulse Response (IR) of the spaces was captured using two methods: balloon burst and sine sweep. The dry excerpts were then recorded in the spaces to capture the natural reverberation pattern while the IRs were convolved with them to create the artificial reverberation excerpts. Apoptosis is a well-defined cellular process in which a cell dies, characterized by cell shrinkage and DNA fragmentation. In parasites like Leishmania, the process of apoptosis-like cell death has been described. Moreover upon infection, the apoptotic-like population is essential for disease development, in part by silencing host phagocytes. Nevertheless, the exact mechanism of how apoptosis in unicellular organisms may support infectivity remains unclear. Therefore we investigated the fate of apoptotic-like Leishmania parasites in human host macrophages. On Lying: A Conceptual Argument for the Falsity Condition

In this paper, we put forward a conceptual argument for the Falsity Condition for lying, upon the assumption that lying is a form of deception. We argue that if the definition of lying did not include the Falsity Condition, then successful lying would not secure that the addressee ends up believing a falsehood (about what the lie is about), which is necessary for deceiving, and then successful lying (as such) would not necessarily be a form of deception.
X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy applied to the study of three sicilian painted artworks

This paper reports on three X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) studies of ancient Sicilian painted materials: a 13th century canvas from Cerami (Enna, Italy), the Muqarnas wood ceiling of the 12th century Palatine Chapel (Palermo, Italy) and a delicate early 20th century viola d’amore, the property of the Conservatorio di Musica “Vincenzo Bellini” in Palermo. Information about the pigments and preparation layer mixtures used as well as inferences regarding various past painting techniques emerged from the interpretation of spectra and data analyses.

Mūsdienu tehnoloģijas veselības nozarē ir nesušas lielas pārmaiņas, termins “digitālā veselība” paliek ar vien atpazīstamāks. Šī pētījuma mērķis bija novērtēt ar veselību saistīto mobilo aplikāciju popularitāti un noderīgumu speciālistu ikdienā. Pētījumā tika veikta aptauja un kvalitatīva aplikāciju novērtēšana. Iegūtie dati liecina, ka galvenie šķēršļi aplikāciju nepielietošanai darba pienākumu veikšanai ir valodas barjera, gados vecāki cilvēki un maksas saturs. Lielākā daļa speciālisti darba vajadzībām neizmanto mobilās veselības aplikācijas, 51% uzskata, ka Latvijā nemaz nav pieejamas pietiekami daudz medicīnisko mobilo aplikāciju. Recent legal changes in Spain have led to an important increase in the number of men court-mandated to community-based partner violence offender intervention programmes. However, just a few of those interventions have been systematically examined. This study aims to predict success indicators of an intervention programme for convicted intimate-partner violence offenders. The sample consisted of 212 convicted intimate-partner violence offenders who participated in the Contexto Programme. This study examines the effectiveness of brand endorsements in vlogs (video blogs) by assessing the role of audience participation, parasocial relationship, and valence toward vlog endorsements on the perceived credibility of the vlogger and brand attitudes. Four experimental conditions were created on Qualtrics based on a YouTube vlog where the endorser reviewed a few products. The data were collected using Mturk and analyzed with 203 usable responses. The findings indicate that audience participation in the vlog enhances para-social relationship with the vlogger, thus further fostering the vlogger's perceived credibility as an endorser. Research usually analyzed the relationships between acculturation or perceived discrimination and immigrants’ well-being, but few studies used an integrative perspective.
