Influence of agents that act on DNA and RNA synthesis on the activity of poly(ADP-Rib) polymerase

The activity of poly(ADP-Rib) polymerase is enhanced in the presence of spermine and spermidine. Among the adenosine-like antibiotics tested, only formycin B and showdomycin cause an inhibition of the enzyme, which is competitive to NAD. The activity of poly(ADP-Rib) polymerase is not reduced by rifamycin, alpha-amanitin and 2-phenylethanol.

Capture of extracellular zinc ions by astrocytes.

Synaptic zinc ions released during synaptic transmission interact with pre- and postsynaptic neuroreceptors, thus modulating neurotransmission. It is likely that they have to be efficiently cleared from the extracellular milieu to assure subsequent synaptic events. Both neurons and glia are assumed to participate in this clearance by mechanisms that are not fully understood. Triiodothyronine accelerates the synthesis of synapsin I in developing neurons from fetal rat brain cultured in a synthetic medium.

The effect of Triiodothyronine (T3) on Synapsin I appearance in rat cortical neurons has been investigated in vitro. Neuronal cultures from 16-day-old fetal rat brain grown in the absence of T3, express immunohystochemically detectable Synapsin I at the 14th day in vitro. The addition of the hormone to the culture medium determines an early (at the 7th day in vitro) appearance of fluorescent dots specific for Synapsin I. © 1990 Plenum Publishing Corporation.

WNK3 Maintains the GABAergic Inhibitory Tone, Synaptic Excitation and Neuronal Excitability via Regulation of KCC2 Cotransporter in Mature Neurons

The activation of chloride (Cl-)permeable gamma (γ)-aminobutyric acid type A(GABAA) receptors induces synaptic inhibition in mature and excitation in immature neurons. This developmental "switch" in GABA function controlled by its polarity depends on the postnatal decrease in intraneuronal Cl- concentration mediated by KCC2, a member of cation-chloride cotransporters (CCCs). The serine-threonine kinase WNK3 (With No Lysine [K]), is a potent regulator of all CCCs and is expressed in neurons. International audience; Before participating in a space mission, astronauts undergo parabolic-flight and underwater training to facilitate their subsequent adaptation to weightlessness. Unfortunately, similar training methods can't be used to prepare re adaptation to planetary gravity. Here, we propose a quick, simple and inexpensive approach that could be used to prepare astronauts both for the absence and for the renewed presence of gravity. Migraine is a cyclic disorder, in which functional and morphological brain changes fluctuate over time, culminating periodically in an attack. In the migrainous brain, temporal processing of external stimuli and sequential recruitment of neuronal networks are often dysfunctional. These changes reflect complex CNS dysfunction patterns.
