Advanced piezoresistive sensor achieved by amphiphilic nanointerfaces of graphene oxide and biodegradable polymer blends
2018
This work focuses on the preparation of a piezoresistive sensor device, by exploiting an amphiphilic sample of graphene oxide (GO) as a compatibilizer for poly (lactic acid) (PLA)-Poly (ethylene-glycol) (PEG) blends. The presence of GO determined a high stiffening and strengthening effect, without affecting toughness, and allowed a good stability of mechanical properties up to 40 days. Moreover, GO endowed the materials with electrical properties highly sensitive to pressure and strain variations: the biodegradable pressure sensor showed a responsivity of 35 μA/MPa from 0.6 to 8.5 MPa, a responsivity around 19 μA/MPa from 8.5 to 25 MPa. For lower pressure values (around 0.16–0.45 MPa), inst…
A simple method to interpret the rheological behaviour of intercalated polymer nanocomposites
2016
Abstract Nanocomposites are a new class of polymer composites that exhibit an interesting combination of chemical, physical, thermal and mechanical properties. Only small amounts of nanofiller are sufficient to generate great variations of many properties. This work focuses on the rheological behaviour of the intercalated polymer nanocomposites in shear flow. The increase of the viscosity and the more pronounced non-Newtonian behaviour is interpreted simply considering the increase of volume of the inert phase caused by the intercalation of the macromolecules. Indeed, the volume of the intercalated tactoids increases with increasing the interlayer distance. On the other hand, the interlayer…
An experimental investigation on performances recovery of glass fiber reinforced composites exposed to a salt-fog/dry cycle
2023
The main goal of this paper is the evaluation of the properties reversibility of glass fiber reinforced polymers (GFRPs) under discontinuous exposure to aggressive environmental conditions, typical of marine applications. To this aim, the GFRP manufactured through vacuum infusion process has been initially aged in humid conditions (i.e., exposure to salt-fog at 35 ◦C) for 15 and 30 days and then stored under controlled dry conditions (i.e., 50% R.H. and 23 ◦C) for times varying between 0 and 21 days. In order to evaluate the recover capability of this material, its water uptake has been monitored along the quasi-static flexural properties during the entire humid/dry cycle. Moreover, both 3D…
TOWARD A DESIGN METHOD FOR METAL-COMPOSITE CO-CURED JOINT BASED ON THE G-SIFs
2013
Abstract In this work, a systematic study of the singular stress field in the zone where the interface intersects the free edge surfaces of bonded metal-composite co-cured joints, has been performed. The obtained theoretical, numerical and experimental results have permitted to detect the relationships between the joint configuration and the singular stress field, as well as to implement a new design method based on the so called generalised stress intensity factors. Such a proposed method allows the user to predict the static strength of a generic metal-composite co-cured joint, vs. the main influence parameters as the elastic modulus of the coupled materials, the overlap length, the taper…
A Study on the Propagation of Plane Stress Waves across the Thickness of a Plate by the Method of Analytic Continuation in Time
2004
The interaction of plane tension/compression waves propagating within a plate perpendicularly to its surface is considered. The analytic solution is obtained by a modified method of characteristics for the one-dimensional wave equation used in problems on an impact of a rigid body on the surface of a plate. The displacements, velocities, and stresses in the plate are determined by the edge disturbance caused by the initial velocity and the stationary force field of masses of the striker and the plate. The method of analytic continuation in time put forward allows a stress analysis for an arbitrary time interval by using finite expressions. Contrary to a stress analysis in the frequency doma…
NO2-controlled cargo delivery from gated silica mesoporous nanoparticles
2017
[EN] Cargo delivery from mesoporous silica nanoparticles loaded with sulforhodamine B and capped with a difluoroboron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY) derivative was triggered by a NO2-induced oxidative process.
Coordination polymers undergoing spin crossover and reversible ligand exchange in the solid
2006
Here we report the synthesis and characterisation of a polymer made up of a system of parallel 2-D grids of Fe(II) ions linked by [Au(CN)2]– bridges and its transformation into a new system of three interpenetrated 3-D coordination open frameworks with the NbO topology. Reversibility of this crystal-to-crystal transformation is evidenced by X-ray crystallographic data and from their spin crossover properties. Real Cabezos, Jose Antonio, Jose.A.Real@uv.es
A family of higher-order single layer plate models meeting Cz0-requirements for arbitrary laminates
2019
Abstract In the framework of displacement-based equivalent single layer (ESL) plate theories for laminates, this paper presents a generic and automatic method to extend a basis higher-order shear deformation theory (polynomial, trigonometric, hyperbolic…) to a multilayer C z 0 higher-order shear deformation theory. The key idea is to enhance the description of the cross-sectional warping: the odd high-order C z 1 function of the basis model is replaced by one odd and one even high-order function and including the characteristic zig-zag behaviour by means of piecewise linear functions. In order to account for arbitrary lamination schemes, four such piecewise continuous functions are consider…
Heptanuclear hydroxo-bridged copper cluster of the dicubane-like type: structural and magnetic characterisations of [Cu7(OH)6Cl2(pn)6(H2O)2](C(CN)3)4…
2002
A new polynuclear copper(II) complex [Cu7(OH)6Cl2- (pn)6(H2O)2](C(CN)3)4Cl2 with hydroxo-bridging ligands has been prepared; the centrosymmetric cluster cation can be described as two Cu4O3Cl distorted cubane units sharing one copper cation. Olive mill wastewaters decontamination based on organo-nano-clay composites
2019
Abstract Green composites for environmental applications were successfully prepared by intercalation of the biosurfactant Quillaja saponin onto montmorillonite mineral clay on varying pH and surfactant/clay ratio. Equilibrium adsorption isotherms were constructed and the system was characterized by performing TGA and XRD analyses. The efficiency of the surfactant-modified clay in the removal of the organic content present in olive mill wastewaters (OMW) was evaluated by means of spectrophotometric measurements. The interest for this cogent issue comes from the consideration that, despite their high pollutant content, OMW can be considered as a potential resource of several organic compounds…
