Inhibition of neuronally mediated secretion in rat colonic mucosa by prostaglandin D2

1992

Abstract The effect of prostaglandin D 2 (PGD 2 ) on ion transport across the mucosa of the descending colon was studied in rats. PGD 2 dose-dependently decreased baseline short-circuit current of mucosa-submucosal preparations mounted either in the Ussing chamber or mounted as an everted sac. However, with the everted sac technique, the tissue was about 1000 times more sensitive to PGD 2 . Concomitant with the decrease in short-circuit current, PGD 2 increased the mucosal-to-serosal fluxes of sodium and chloride and decreased the serosal-tomucosal flux of chloride. PGD 2 inhibited the secretory action of the PGI 2 analogue iloprost, PGD 2α , and neurotensin. The action of these secretagogu…

Estimation of chilling and heat requirements of six sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) cultivars

2022

Warmer winters without sufficient chilling due to climate change in Mediterranean regions represent a threat for deciduous fruit tree species such as sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) with high chilling requirement, since it will affect fruit tree phenology leading to dramatic yield reduction and fruit industry income loss. Quantifying chilling requirements to overcome winter dormancy is crucial for identifying suitable cultivars for a given site, for predicting the necessity and timing applications of rest-breaking chemicals and the possible consequences of climate change. The aim of the following study was to determine the chilling and heat requirements of six sweet cherry cultivars grown in…

Postharvest Application of Sulphur Dioxide Fumigation to Improve Quality and Storage Ability of "Red Globe" Grape Cultivar During Long Cold Storage

2017

Table grape cv 'Red Globe' is produced in Sicily and in other areas of Southern Italy. This produce is very appreciated by consumers, having the best rankings in the world market for exports and quality. Nevertheless, despite it is a non-climacteric fruit, table grape is very perishable, both after harvest, and during postharvest handling and cold storage. In fact, also at low temperatures, table grape is very sensitive to fungal infection (Botrytis cinerea) and other diseases, like gray mold, which is very aggressive. For this reason, a standard practice is to fumigate table grape with sulphur dioxide (SO2), after storage in chambers. The growing market request of table grape cv. 'Red Glob…

Direct Measurement of Methane Emission Rates: Multiyear Application to a Municipal Landfill in Southern Italy

2012

Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) landfills have been identified as one of the most important sources of methane (CH4) emission. MSW contains a certain amount of biodegradable organic matter which undergoes anaerobic degradation resulting in the production of the landfill gas (LFG), which main component is tipically represented by CH4. In order to minimise its negative effects on the envi-ronment, LFG recovery is a suitable tool to control CH4 emissions from a landfill site and the measurement of CH4 emissions represents a good way to evaluate the effectiveness of LFG recover-ing system in reducing biogas emission to the atmosphere. However, up to now few measurements of landfill CH4 emissions ha…

Estimation of methane emission by a municipal landfill: the case of Palermo

2010

CH4 diffuse emissions from municipal solid waste landfills represent one of the most important anthropogenic source of greenhouse-gas. CH4 is produced by anaerobic biodegradation of organic matter in land-filled MSW and it constitutes the major component of landfill gas. Gas recovery is a suitable tool to effectively control CH4 emissions from landfill sites and the quantification of CH4 emissions represents a good tool to evaluate the effectiveness of biogas recovering system in reducing biogas emission. In particular, LFG emissions can be indirectly evaluated from mass balance equations between formation, recovery and oxidation of biogas in the landfill, as well as on a direct approach ba…

2020

With the aim of containing the current pandemic, by legislative decree no. 149/2020 the Government has intervened also on the appeal stage. Thus, under two fundamental guidelines: a written contradictory, unless there is a request by the party of oral discussion; “online” chambers. A dangerous binomial that will require adjustments during the conversion into law.

Impugnazioni e pandemia: l'esilio dell'oralità e la "smaterializzazione" della camera di consiglio

2021

Law no. 176 of 24 December 2020, which converted into law the so called “Ristori” and “Ristori bis” Decrees, has not brought any significant changes in the subject of legal remedies. Rather, the new law has maintained the “written” model which now also applies to prevention proceedings and to the appeal against coercitive measures. In this system the “virtual” Council Chamber acts as a counterpoint.

Filologia degli scarti: il caso dell'"Abandonnée"

This papaer shed light on the supposed composition of an alternative version, now lost, of the adagio "Anch'io dischiuso un giorno" of Abigaille's aria in the secondo act of Nabucco by Verdi. We can hypothesise that the piece in question was actually composed by Verdi for Giuseppina Strepponi, and that it was subsequently transformed by the composer into the French-language chamber song "L'abandonnée", published in 1849.

Chamberlin, Edward Hastings

2016

The entry describes the life and analytical contributions of the US economist Edward Chamberlin (1899 -1967). It reconstructs the development of Chamberlin's thought on the issue of monopolistic competition and compares it with the Economics of Imperfect Competition by Joan Robinson.
