Supramolecular chirality and symmetry breaking of fluoride complexes of achiral foldamers

2017

Aromatic oligoamide foldamers containing a central pyridine-2,6-dicarbonyl motif are partially preorganized to favor the binding of fluoride anions. In the solid state, the foldamer-fluoride complexes form achiral, polar and chiral crystal structures depending on the chemical structure of the foldamer. One of the six foldamers studied here, a C2v symmetrical foldamer (1), formed repeatedly chiral crystal structures when crystallized with tetra-butylammonium fluoride, showing supramolecular bulk chirality and symmetry breaking in crystallization.

Theoretical Simulations on Electric Properties of CNT-Me and GNR-Me Interconnects Using Effective Media Approach

2011

Abstract To overcome disadvantages of nowadays microtechnology, a further miniaturization of electronic devices, high integration level as well as increase of both operation frequencies and power density is required, including the use of adequate materials and innovative chip interconnects. Due to their unique physical properties, especially due to a ballistic (without losses) mechanism of conductivity, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) attract a permanently growing technological interest, for example, as promising candidates for nanointerconnects in a high-speed electronics.

Polycationic Monomeric and Homodimeric Asymmetric Monomethine Cyanine Dyes with Hydroxypropyl Functionality—Strong Affinity Nucleic Acids Binders

2021

New analogs of the commercial asymmetric monomethine cyanine dyes thiazole orange (TO) and thiazole orange homodimer (TOTO) with hydroxypropyl functionality were synthesized and their properties in the presence of different nucleic acids were studied. The novel compounds showed strong, micromolar and submicromolar affinities to all examined DNA ds-polynucleotides and poly rA–poly rU. The compounds studied showed selectivity towards GC-DNA base pairs over AT-DNA, which included both binding affinity and a strong fluorescence response. CD titrations showed aggregation along the polynucleotide with well-defined supramolecular chirality. The single dipyridinium-bridged dimer showed intercalatio…

A general diastereoselective synthesis of highly functionalized ferrocenyl ambiphiles enabled on a large scale by electrochemical purification

2017

International audience; A general synthesis of highly functionalized ferrocenes, which include (P,B)- and (N,B)-ambiphiles, has been developed at a multigram scale. Diastereoselective stepwise modification of di-tert-butylated ferrocenes included the unprecedented separation of electroactive species. Bulky alkyl groups on ferrocenes ensure planar chirality of ambiphiles and enforce closer proximity of antagonist Lewis functions.

Synthetic Studies towards Pectenotoxin-2: Synthesis of the Nonanomeric 10-epi-ABCDE Ring Segment by Kinetic Spiroketalization

2011

The synthesis of the nonanomeric 10-epi-ABCDE ring system of pectenotoxin-2 has been achieved by using a kinetic spiroketalization reaction. The synthesis of the spiroketalization precursor was achieved through a cross-metathesis/hydro-genation sequence. The formation of the epi-C10 isomer resulted from an unexpected anti-Felkin selective addition of organometallic nucleophiles to the advanced CDE ring precursor. This addition reaction was investigated with differently protected α,β-dioxygenated model aldehydes, which displayed similar anti-Felkin selectivities with organometallic nucleophiles.

Molecular Self-Assembly of Enantiopure Heptahelicene-2-Carboxylic Acid on Calcite (1014)

2012

Chirality can have a decisive influence on the molecular structure formation upon self-assembly on surfaces. In this paper, we study the structures formed by enantiopure (M)-heptahelicene-2-carboxylic acid ((M)-[7]HCA) on the calcite (10 (1) over bar4) cleavage plane under ultrahigh vacuum conditions. Previous noncontact atomic force microscopy studies have revealed that the racemic mixture of (M)-[7]HCA and (P)-[7]FICA (1:1) self-assembles into well-defined molecular double rows that are oriented along the calcite [01 (1) over bar0] direction. Here, we investigate the enantiopure (M)[7]HCA compound, resulting in distinctly different molecular structures upon deposition onto calcite (10 (1)…

A Co2O2 metallacycle exclusively supported by l-valine

2008

Abstract [Co2(OH)2( l -valine)4]·2.5H2O has been prepared under hydrothermal conditions and constitutes the first example of a [Co2O2] core supported exclusively by aminoacids. This synthetic dimetallic model for redox active metalloenzymes is one of the few binary aminoacid compounds of biologically relevant metal ions that has been structurally characterized, showing the possibilities of this synthetic approach for preparation of models in bioinorganic chemistry.

Lewis Acid-Catalyzed Stereoselection on Carbohydrate Templates

1989

The chirality and the complexing abilities of carbohydrates are utilized for chemical stereoselection in different reactions. In this sense, the carbohydrates are investigated as the chiral auxiliaries in alkylation reactions and in Michael additions of ester enolates. Furthermore, carbohydrates are demonstrated to be efficient chiral matrices in Lewis acid-catalyzed Diels-Alder reactions. They also effect stereoselection in a new synthesis of β-branched carboxylic acid derivatives. O-Acylated glycosylamines are shown to be potent chiral templates in the Strecker synthesis and in the Ugi four-component condensation to give α-amino acid derivatives in high yield and diastereoselectivity. In …
