Determination of nitrite by inhibition of the chemiluminescence of acriflavine in a flow-injection assembly

The indirect determination of nitrite was performed with a flow-injection assembly on the basis of the inhibition of the analytical output obtained in a luminometer by oxidation of acriflavine. The acriflavine solution merged with the nitrite and the resulting mixture was injected into a pure water stream. This solution merged with the oxidant solution (potassium permanganate in sulfuric acid medium) and the resulting chemiluminiscence was affected (inhibited) by the presence of nitrite after reaction with the aminoacridine. The method was applicable over the range 10–800 μg l−1 of nitrite with a correlation coefficient of 0.9960. The relative standard deviation was 1.4% and the throughput …

Abstract The reversed-phase chromatographic behaviour of six tricyclic antidepressants (amitryptiline, clomipramine, doxepin, imipramine, nortryptiline and maprotiline) was examined in this work with acetonitrile-water mobile phases, in the absence and presence of the ionic liquids 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride and 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, which have interesting features for the separation of basic compounds, in terms of peak shape combined with reduced retention. A Quantitative Estimate of Ascorbic and Isoascorbic Acid by High Performance Liquid Chromatography: Application to Citric Juices

Abstract The present report deals with the optimization and verification of a simple HPLC isocratic method useful for determining ascorbic and isoascorbic acids in standard solutions and fruit juices. Sample preparation is minimal and docs not require derivatization. The method uses an octadecyl reversed phase, a mobile phase which contains cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide 0.05M as the ionic pair and potassium dihydrogen phosphate as a buffer, at pH=4.5, and 4-hydro-xyacetanilide as internal standard. The proposed method makes it possible to quantify ascorbic and isoascorbic acid in less than 13 minutes, with precision (C. V. 3.5%) and accuracy (recover' of 98%).

D'Alessandro and his co-workers reported on the separation of four different fractions from the Reiter strain of Treponema pallidum (1, 2, 3). This report deals with the thermolabile soluble protein extract of the Reiter treponeme. The antigen employed in this study was prepared by de Bruijn (4) using the technic described by D'Alessandro. The antigen is prepared briefly as follows: The Reiter treponemes are grown in a Brewer thioglycollate medium. After harvesting the washing, the treponemes are subjected to cryolysis. The glutamine-N-alpha-conjugates were detected also in human amniotic fluids. Determination of barbiturates in urine by micellar liquid chromatography and direct injection of sample.

Abstract A liquid chromatographic procedure for the determination of six barbiturates (barbital, diallyl barbituric acid, phenobarbital, butabarbital, amobarbital and pentobarbital) in urine samples is described. The proposed system uses a Spherisorb octadecyl-silane ODS-2 C 18 analytical column and a guard column of similar characteristics. The UV detector was set at 240 nm. A study to select adequate composition of the micellar mobile phase for the separation of these compounds in urine samples is performed. Carotenoid compositions of two freshwater Gammarus species (Crustacea: Amphipoda) and of their common acanthocephalan parasite Polymorphus minutus were characterized. The effect of carotenoid uptake by the parasite was addressed by comparing the carotenoid content of uninfected and infected female hosts. Using high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC), co-chromatography of reference pigments and electron ionization mass spectrometry of collected HPLC fractions (EI-MS), several xanthophylls and non-polar compounds were identified. By means of ion chromatography the extensive and significantly higher loss of ions of G. pulex and G. fossarum in acid water (pH 3.0) as compared to neutral water is proved. While cations are being accumulated in the water, some ions (Na+, Cl−) leave the hemolymph in important percentage, others increase highly after being set free from the cells (K+ and Ca2+). The loss of cations with Asellus aquaticus in acid water (pH 3) is clearly lower than with Gammarus, and it is not significantly higher than when the animals are put into neutral water.

Conjugation and cleavage products in the thiolytic metabolism of the anticancer drug 4′ -(9-acridinyl amino)methanesulfon-m-anisidide were identified primarily by high-pressure liquid chromatography in combination with field desorption mass spectrometry. The spontaneous metabolic pathway of the drug, as related to its susceptibility to nucleophilic attack by endogenous thiols at the 9-carbon atom of the acridine moiety, has been studied. Isolated atrial amyloid, the most frequent senile cardiac amyloid type, was chemically analysed. Amyloid fibrils obtained from a patient (NIP) were extracted and the predominant low-molecular-weight polypeptide (approximately 3.5 kDa, designated ASc2 NIP) was isolated by size exclusion high performance liquid chromatography in 60% formic acid. N-Terminal amino acid sequence analysis of this polypeptide was identical to that of the atrial natriuretic peptide alpha-hANP for the first 12 residues determined.
