Alkyloxy modified pyrene fluorophores with tunable photophysical and crystalline properties

Novel alkyloxy modified 2,7-di-tert-butyl-4,5,9,10-tetra(arylethynyl)pyrenes were prepared through a straightforward Sonogashira coupling approach. Optical properties such as quantum yields and absorption/emission spectra of the fluorophores were investigated by UV/Vis and fluorescence measurements. Aggregation induced excimer formation of the chromophores in polar solvents and in the solid state was proved by the presence of a characteristic bathochromically shifted emission band and a decrease of the emission capability. Basic concepts of triplet excimer formation and triplet−triplet interactions between molecules with conjugated π-systems are investigated by means of ab initio quantum chemical calculations, employing the second-order coupled-cluster method CC2 and the second-order propagator method ADC(2). The naphthalene dimer turns out to be a very fruitful model system for which weak and strong electronic coupling can be identified depending on the mutual arrangement of the monomer moieties. Abstract Refractometric, dielectric and electro-optical absorption measurements are reported for 1-dimethylamino-2,6-dicyano-4-methyl-benzene (I) and 1,4-bis(4′-dimethylamino-3′,5′-dicyanophenyl)bicyclo[2.2.2]octane (II). The evaluation leads to dipole moments and polarizabilities of the ground state as well as the first dipole allowed singlet state. The experimental res excellently substantiate the method of electro-optical absorption measurements in solution. It is shown that the excited dimer wavefunctions of the bichromophoric molecule II localize by solvent induced local site perturbations.

This project aims to study the interactions between calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) and different anions (chlorides, bromides, nitrates and sulfates) in order to build a thermodynamic model and then be predictable. The simplified system CaO-SiO2-H2O is studied by synthesizing C-S-H suspensions and mixing them with different kind of salts (calcium salt or alkali salt). The influence of the temperature and the presence of aluminum in the structure of the C-S-H is also examined.A classical way to investigate this kind of system is to separate the liquid phase from the solid phase in order to analyze them separately. Abstract Particle image velocimetry techniques coupled with advanced image processing tools are receiving an increasing interest for measuring flow quantities and local bubble-size distributions in gas–liquid mechanically agitated vessels. When trying to analyze image information the problem arises that bubble sizes are generally underestimated, due to the fact that the laser sheet used for lighting the system randomly cuts bubbles over non-diametrical planes, leading to an apparent bubble size distribution even in the ideal case of single sized bubbles. [EN] This article describes a new simultaneous method for the analysis of sulfur-type poisons, hydrocarbons and permanent gases affecting the productivity of the Ziegler Natta catalyst during the synthesis of polypropylene on an industrial scale in a fluidized-bed reactor. The identification was achieved employing a configuration of the seven-valve chromatographic system, with events at different times, allowing distribution of the sample through multiple columns, and finally reaching the helium ionization detectors of pulsed discharge, flame ionization and mass spectrometry. A simple and flexible system, employing a column switching technique, has been designed to allow the analysis of peptides and proteins smaller than 15 kDa by molecular weight in filtered urine samples by performing a direct on-column injection utilising simultaneous sample clean-up and trace enrichment.
