Levels in104Ru populated by the ??-decay of104Tc
1978
Theβ− — andγ-activities of 18.4 min104Tc have been studied with singles and coincidence measurements. Sources were prepared by chemical separation of technetium from the fission products of thermal-neutron-induced fission of235U. A revised level scheme of104Ru up to an excitation energy of 4.26 MeV is proposed. Fromβ-γ coincidence measurements, aQβ-value of 5.62±0.07 MeV has been obtained.
A study of fusion - fission atZ= 107
1997
An experiment was performed with the EUROGAM II array to investigate the reaction channels that are open in the fusion of a beam on the actinide target at a series of energies around the Coulomb barrier. The symmetric fission products identified from the level structures seem to suggest that a proton and neutrons are emitted prior to fission.
Absence of delayed fission in the? ?-decay of 2.3 min238Pa
1985
We have searched for beta-delayed fission in the decay of 2.3 min238Pa produced in the238U(n,p) reaction with 14.7 MeV neutrons. Through microprocessor-controlled chemical separations of protactinium about 109 atoms of238Pa were isolated and exposed to fission track detectors. From the absence of fission tracks an upper limit for the betadelayed fission probability of238Pa, i.e.Pβf<2.6 10−8, is obtained at 95% confidence level. This rules out positive evidence for this decay mode of238Pa reported elsewhere. Simple theoretical estimates ofPβf range from 10−7 to 10−9.
Cold fusion of heavy ions paving the way to superheavy elements
2001
Abstract Significant progress has been made approaching superheavy elements. A shell-stabilized region near hassium has been discovered. Element 112 has been synthesized. Recently evidence for the creation of elements 114, 116, and 118 has been reported. The way to these superheavy nuclei was paved by the cold fusion of heavy ions. In this paper experimental methods for heavy-element research, which is essentially physics with single atoms, are presented together with recent experimental results. The observed nuclear properties are discussed in the framework of theoretical models. New instrumental developments including accelerators and radioactive beams are be addressed.
Simulations of the stopping efficiencies of fission ion guides
2017
With the Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line (IGISOL) facility, located at the University of Jyväskylä, products of nuclear reactions are separated by mass. The high resolving power of the JYFLTRAP Penning trap, with full separation of individual nuclides, capacitates the study of nuclides far from the line of stability. For the production of neutron-rich medium-heavy nuclides, fissioning of actinides is a feasible reaction. This can be achieved with protons from an in-house accelerator or, alternatively, with neutrons through the addition of a newly developed Be(p,xn)-converter. The hereby-obtained fission products are used in nuclear data measurements, for example fission yields, nuclear …
Heat and Helium Production during Exothermic Reactions between Gases through Palladium Geometrical Elements Loaded with Hydrogen
2000
In this research, the effect of the shape of hydrogen-loaded palladium elements on exothermic reactions between gases is shown. It was found that an element with parts of its surface next to each o...
Electromagnetic and nuclear fission of238U in the reaction of 100, 500, and 1000 AMeV208Pb with238U
1994
The folding- and azimuthal-angle and velocity distributions for the238U fission fragments have been measured in reactions with 100, 500, and 1000 A·MeV208Pb. These distributions were used to decompose the fission cross section into its electromagnetic and nuclear components. The fraction of electromagnetic fission was found to be 0.16±0.07, 0.48±0.08, and 0.60±0.04, respectively. The electromagnetic fission cross section as a function of the208Pb nucleus energy is compared with theoretical predictions. The measured fission cross section from nuclear reactions (≈1.5 b) is approximately constant between 100 and 1000 A·MeV.
Vitamin E as an IgE inhibitor: stability during cold storage of human milk
2008
Human breast milk is recommended as the unique food for neonates based on its known properties. When the production of milk by themother is not sufcient or the mother is not able to feed her child for professional reasons, milk banks or the mothers practice ofcollecting their own milk are the existing alternatives for breast-feeding. In both situations cold storage (refrigeration or freezing) can beused in neonatal units, at home and in human milk banks
Entanglement control via reservoir engineering in ultracold atomic gases
2013
We study the entanglement of two impurity qubits immersed in a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) reservoir. This open quantum system is particularly interesting because the reservoir and system parameters are easily controllable and the reduced dynamics is highly non-Markovian. We show how the model allows for interpolation between a common dephasing scenario and an independent dephasing scenario by simply modifying the wavelength of the superlattice superposed to the BEC, and how this influences the dynamical properties of the impurities. We demonstrate the existence of very rich entanglement dynamics correspondent to different values of reservoir parameters, including phenomena such as entan…
