On the uniform sampling of CIELAB color space and the number of discernible colors

2013

This paper presents a useful algorithmic strategy to sample uniformly the CIELAB color space based on close packed hexagonal grid. This sampling scheme has been used successfully in different research works from computational color science to color image processing. The main objective of this paper is to demonstrate the relevance and the accuracy of the hexagonal grid sampling method applied to the CIELAB color space. The second objective of this paper is to show that the number of color samples computed depends on the application and on the color gamut boundary considered. As demonstration, we use this sampling to support a discussion on the number of discernible colors related to a JND.

Colour segmentation based on a light reflection model to locate citrus fruits for robotic harvesting

1993

Abstract Colour segmentation with a vision system is a good procedure to identify and locate fruits in robotic harvesting. Natural illumination conditions present in these environments produce a very variable illumination of the scene, in addition, fruits are usually partially occluded, and complete visual information about them is not available. The colour segmentation used for these purposes must take into account the appearance of highlights and shadows that natural illumination conditions produce. A method based on the Dichromatic Reflection Model for the light reflected from the surface object is reported here. Through the assumption of this model the light rays reflected from points o…

Three-dimensional interpretation of the color system of Aguilonius/Rubens 1613

2000

The two-dimensional color system in the textbook on optics, written by F. Aguilonius (1613) and illustrated by PP Rubens,1 is equivalent to a three-dimensional color solid, which can also be constructed by applying the trichromatic theory of color vision on a color circle. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Software for simulating dichromatic perception of video streams

2013

We have designed a configurable stand-alone Matlab-based software to simulate dichromatic perception of video streams. The algorithm used is an extension for video streams of the “corresponding pair algorithm” by Capilla and coworkers for simulation of dichromatic perception of images. The software allows the user to upload a video sequence and to process it using different dichromatic color vision models and viewing conditions. The output video may be generated in different spatial and temporal resolutions and file formats. The functions for Matlab environment and a stand-alone application may be downloaded from the Repository of the University of Alicante. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. C…

The goldfish--a colour-constant animal.

1996

A series of either thirteen or fifteen coloured test fields with hues from blue through grey to yellow were presented on a black background. Goldfish were trained on a bluish-grey test field by food reward. In the training situation, the setup with the coloured papers was illuminated with white light. In the test situation, the colour of the illumination was changed to blue or yellow. In both test illuminations the goldfish preferred the training field in the same way as under white illumination despite the fact that this test field stimulated the cone types very differently from the training situation. As test fields were present that excited the cones in exactly the same way as under whi…

Overview of the Evolution of Silica-Based Chromo-Fluorogenic Nanosensors

2019

[EN] This review includes examples of silica-based, chromo-fluorogenic nanosensors with the aim of illustrating the evolution of the discipline in recent decades through relevant research developed in our group. Examples have been grouped according to the sensing strategies. A clear evolution from simply functionalized materials to new protocols involving molecular gates and the use of highly selective biomolecules such as antibodies and oligonucleotides is reported. Some final examples related to the evolution of chromogenic arrays and the possible use of nanoparticles to communicate with other nanoparticles or cells are also included. A total of 64 articles have been summarized, highlight…

Shelf life assessment of industrial durum wheat bread as a function of packaging system

2017

This study compared the effect of different packaging systems on industrial durum wheat bread shelf-life, with regard to thermoformed packaging (TF) and flow-packaging (FP). Two TFs having different thickness and one FP were compared by assessing physico-chemical and sensorial properties and volatile compounds of sliced bread during 90 days of storage. Texture, aw and bread moisture varied according to a first-order kinetic model, with FP samples ageing faster than TFs. Sensorial features such as consistency, stale odor, and sour odor, increased their intensity during storage. Furans decreased, whereas hexanal increased. The Principal Component Analysis of the whole dataset pointed out that…

Synthesis of the aggregation pheromone of the Colorado potato beetle from its degradation product

2015

Incubation of the Colorado potato beetle aggregation pheromone, (S)-1,3-dihydroxy-3,7-dimethyl-6-octen-2-one, with antennal or leg extracts from this beetle gave 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one as the major product. This ketone was used as a substrate in a stereoselective synthesis of the pheromone. It was attached to the butanediacetal of glycolic acid with good stereoselectivity and the desired isomer was further enriched by purification of the product of this reaction on silica gel.

Conception et synthèse de nouvelles sondes fluorogéniques à coeur Bodipy pour la détection

2020

Therefore this project is aimed at the development of novel improved multi-analyte fluorogenic probes for heavy metals ions and bioanalytes within the framework “AND” fluorescent molecular logic gates concept. The biothiols and cations of Cd(II), Pb(II), Cr(III) and Cu(II) heavy metals will be selected as the targeted analytes. To the best of our knowledge, no “AND” molecular logic gates using metal ions besides Zn(II), Hg(II), Ca(II) inputs, likewise no multi-analyte probes for biothiols along with heavy metal cations, has been described in the literature. While the development of a highly sensitive and selective recognition of thiols and metal cations has emerged as a significant interest…
