1-(2-Phenylethyl)-3-methylimidazolium and 1-benzyl-3-methylimidazolium chloroaluminates, [Ph-C2mim][AlCl4] and [Bzlmim][AlCl4], were applied as media of the Cp2TiCl2 catalyst for biphasic ethylene polymerization. The studied aralkyl ionic liquids ensure greater stability of the catalyst at higher temperatures and more regular morphology of the produced polyethylene than analogous 1-n-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium chloroaluminates. The alkylaluminium compound participates in the termination reaction of the polymer chain. Low-temperature single crystal X-ray diffraction and high-pressure Raman studies on [(CH3)2NH2]2[SbCl5]

The structure of bis(dimethylammonium) pentachloroantimonate(III), [(CH{sub 3}){sub 2}NH{sub 2}]{sub 2}[SbCl{sub 5}], BDP, was studied at 15 K and ambient pressure by single-crystal X-ray diffraction as well as at ambient temperature and high pressures up to 4.87(5) GPa by Raman spectroscopy. BDP crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pnma space group with a=8.4069(4), b=11.7973(7), c=14.8496(7) A, and Z=4; R{sub 1}=0.0381, wR{sub 2}=0.0764. The structure consists of distorted [SbCl{sub 6}]{sup 3-} octahedra forming zig-zag [{l_brace}SbCl{sub 5}{r_brace}{sub n}]{sup 2n-} chains that are cross-linked by dimethylammonium [(CH{sub 3}){sub 2}NH{sub 2}]{sup +} cations. The use of in-line quantitative analysis to follow polymer processing

In this work it is presented three applications of real time analysis during extrusion process using an optical device developed by our research group, which applies the concepts of light extinction. Monitoring of polymer blends morphology takes place to infer data concerned to dispersed phase size and concentration. The detector also enables information about melting temperature of polymer during extrusion and the level of viscous heating, and the exfoliation step during processing of a polymer-clay nanocomposite.

Effects of pyrolysis temperature on the hydrologically relevant porosity of willow biochar

Biochar pore space consists of porosity of multiple length scales. In direct water holding applications like water storage for plant water uptake, the main interest is in micrometre-range porosity since these pores are able to store water that is easily available for plants. Gas adsorption measurements which are commonly used to characterize the physical pore structure of biochars are not able to quantify this pore-size range. While pyrogenetic porosity (i.e. pores formed during pyrolysis process) tends to increase with elevated process temperature, it is uncertain whether this change affects the pore space capable to store plant available water. Influence of the process parameters on the microstructure of a hardfacing coating elaborated by hot isostatic pressing

Hot Isostatic Pressing elaboration of Norem02, an austenitic-ferritic hypereutectoid stainless steel, leads to the formation ofan austenitic matrix with a mixture of acicular M7C 3 and globular M23 C 6 carbides. The sintering tests, carried out by using an AISI304L container, showed that the final microstructure and the carbides’ distribution of the HIPed Norem02 are strongly influencedby the process parameters (heating and cooling rate, sintering time, holding temperature and pressure) and by the particles’ size,microstructure and phase distribution of the initial powder. New high-pressure phase and equation of state of Ce2Zr2O8

2012

In this paper we report a new high-pressure rhombohedral phase of Ce2Zr2O8 observed from high-pressure angle-dispersive x-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy studies up to nearly 12 GPa. The ambient-pressure cubic phase of Ce2Zr2O8 transforms to a rhombohedral structure beyond 5 GPa with a feeble distortion in the lattice. Pressure evolution of unit-cell volume showed a change in compressibility above 5 GPa. The unit-cell parameters of the high-pressure rhombohedral phase at 12.1 GPa are ah = 14.6791(3) {\AA}, ch = 17.9421(5) {\AA}, V = 3348.1(1) {\AA}3. PROPAGATING INTERFACES IN A TWO-LAYER BISTABLE NEURAL NETWORK

The dynamics of propagating interfaces in a bistable neural network is investigated. We consider the network composed of two coupled 1D lattices and assume that they interact in a local spatial point (pin contact). The network unit is modeled by the FitzHugh–Nagumo-like system in a bistable oscillator mode. The interfaces describe the transition of the network units from the rest (unexcited) state to the excited state where each unit exhibits periodic sequences of excitation pulses or action potentials. Pinning of a kink in a nonlinear diffusive medium with a geometrical bifurcation: Theory and experiments

International audience; We study the dynamics of a kink propagating in a Nagumo chain presenting a geometrical bifurcation. In the case of weak couplings, we define analytically and numerically the coupling conditions leading to the pinning of the kink at the bifurcation site. Moreover, real experiments using a nonlinear electrical lattice confirm the theoretical and numerical predictions.

Multifacial Recognition in Binary and Ternary Cocrystals from 5-Halouracil and Aminoazine Derivatives

A systematic analysis using single crystal X-ray diffraction was performed to explore the role exerted by potential intercomponent proton-transfer reactions in the supramolecular structures of A–B cocrystals formed by 5-haloderivatives of uracil (A), coupled with 2-aminoadenine simulants (aminoazines, B).
