Interactions of Dioxouranium(VI) with Amines in Aqueous Solution

2010

The interaction of the dioxouranium(VI) ion with five low molecular weight polyamines (ethylenediamine, putrescine, cadaverine, spermidine, and spermine) and with poly(allyl)amine (15 kDa) was studied potentiometrically (ISE-H + glass electrode) at T ) 298.15 K. Investigations were carried out in NaNO3 ionic medium, at I ) 0.1 mol · L -1 (and 0.5 mol · L -1 for poly(allyl)amine only), in the pH range 3.5 to 5.5, before the formation of uranyl insoluble species. The results gave evidence for the formation of two species, namely, UO2L 2+ and UO2L(OH) + for the diamine systems (ethylenediamine, putrescine, cadaverine), UO2L 2+ and UO2LH 3+ for spermidine, and UO2LH 3+ and UO2LH2 4+ for spermin…

Formation and Stability of Cadmium(II)/Phytate Complexes by Different Electrochemical Techniques. Critical Analysis of Results

2010

In the present work the stability constants of various cadmium(II)/phytate (Phy) species were determined at T = 298.15 K in NaNO3(aq) at I = 0.1 mol·L−1 by DP-ASV (Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry) and by potentiometric titrations using an ISE-Cd2+. Cyclic voltammograms were also recorded to check the electrochemical behavior of cadmium in the presence of phytate. The results were analyzed together with previous data determined by ISE-H+ measurements. Data obtained were used to provide an exhaustive speciation scheme for the phytate/cadmium(II) system at different conditions, as well as a comprehensive representation of the binding ability of phytate toward cadmium(II). Diffe…

Experimental study of Si–Al substitution in calcium-silicate-hydrate (C-S-H) prepared under equilibrium conditions.

2009

International audience; C-A-S-H of varying Al/Si and Ca/(Al+Si) ratios have been prepared introducing C-S-H (Ca/Si=0.66 and 0.95) at different weight concentrations in a solution coming from the hydration of tricalcium aluminate (Ca3Al2O6) in water. XRD and EDX (TEM) analyses show that using this typical synthesise procedure, pure C-A-S-H is obtained only for calcium hydroxide concentrations below 4.5 mmol L−1. Otherwise, calcium carboaluminate or strätlingite is also present beside C-A-S-H. The tobermorite-like structure is maintained for C-A-S-H. A kinetic study has shown that the formation of C-A-S-H is a fast reaction, typically less than a few hours. The Ca/(Al+Si) ratio of C-A-S-H mat…

Uniqueness and reconstruction for the fractional Calder\'on problem with a single measurement

2020

We show global uniqueness in the fractional Calder\'on problem with a single measurement and with data on arbitrary, possibly disjoint subsets of the exterior. The previous work \cite{GhoshSaloUhlmann} considered the case of infinitely many measurements. The method is again based on the strong uniqueness properties for the fractional equation, this time combined with a unique continuation principle from sets of measure zero. We also give a constructive procedure for determining an unknown potential from a single exterior measurement, based on constructive versions of the unique continuation result that involve different regularization schemes.

Calibrations and isoperimetric profiles

2007

We equip many noncompact nonsimply connected surfaces with smooth Riemannian metrics whose isoperimetric profile is smooth, a highly nongeneric property. The computation of the profile is based on a calibration argument, a rearrangement argument, the Bol-Fiala curvature dependent inequality, together with new results on the profile of surfaces of revolution and some hardware know-how.

FPGA implementation of a deep learning algorithm for real-time signal reconstruction in particle detectors under high pile-up conditions

2019

The analog signals generated in the read-out electronics of particle detectors are shaped prior to the digitization in order to improve the signal to noise ratio (SNR). The real amplitude of the analog signal is then obtained using digital filters, which provides information about the energy deposited in the detector. The classical digital filters have a good performance in ideal situations with Gaussian electronic noise and no pulse shape distortion. However, high-energy particle colliders, such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, can produce multiple simultaneous events, which produce signal pileup. The performance of classical digital filters deteriorates in these conditions sinc…

Energy compensation and adiposity in humans

2021

Publisher Copyright: © 2021 The Authors Understanding the impacts of activity on energy balance is crucial. Increasing levels of activity may bring diminishing returns in energy expenditure because of compensatory responses in non-activity energy expenditures.1–3 This suggestion has profound implications for both the evolution of metabolism and human health. It implies that a long-term increase in activity does not directly translate into an increase in total energy expenditure (TEE) because other components of TEE may decrease in response—energy compensation. We used the largest dataset compiled on adult TEE and basal energy expenditure (BEE) (n = 1,754) of people living normal lives to fi…

Purification and characterization of the ?-β-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase from dromedary liver mitochondria

2001

Abstract d -β-Hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (BDH) (EC 1.1.1.30), a membrane enzyme, has been purified to homogeneity from dromedary ( Camelus dromedarius ) liver mitochondria. Our new purification method consisted of the solubilization of mitochondrial membranes by Triton X 100 and purification of BDH by two steps: DEAE-Sephacel and Phenyl-Sepharose. The molecular mass of the enzyme subunit size was 67 kDa. The purified enzyme is recognized by anti rat liver mitochondrial BDH antibodies. Furthermore, BDH activity was absolutely dependent upon phospholipids. BDH is also characterized by specific enzymatic parameters: an optimum pH of approximately 8 for the oxidation reaction, and approximat…
