Toward a refined conceptualization of IS discontinuance : Reflection on the past and a way forward

2020

Interest in studying information systems discontinuance has been increasing lately, yet there is no consensus on what it means. To improve the situation, we conduct a comprehensive review of current literature on IS discontinuance and identify 55 studies published during 1991–2017 that specifically focus on the topic. Our conceptual analysis disentangles the process, content, and context of the phenomenon, revealing that over the course of a typical IS lifecycle, IS discontinuance may materialize at least in five distinct forms: rejection, regressive discontinuance, quitting, temporary discontinuance, and replacement. After elaborating their distinctions, we discuss their theoretical, metho…

The Actual Adoption and Use of Mobile Apps : The Case of a Higher Education Context

2020

Mobile applications have gained wide acceptance in several sectors, including eCommerce and education. In higher education, mobile apps are being used not only for mobile learning but also for creating smart campus environments in which physical campuses are augmented with digital services. Mobile apps for smart campus initiatives usually have several features that students and educators are expected to adopt and use. However, although prior studies have investigated the adoption of mobile apps, most of such studies are on the user's intention to use or continue using mobile apps, leaving gaps in our understanding of how actual use occurs. Drawing on a case study of a mobile app for a smart…

Inclusive Design for Alzheimer’s Disease: Low-cost Treatments, Design and ICT

2019

Inability to acquire new memories, difficulty to remember recent events and to recognize objects, places and people, visual-spatial disorientation, these are some of the disorders with which who is affected by neurological diseases must learn to live with. In a continuously evolving society, where the decreasing birth rate and the drops in mortality are consistent, the job of Architecture is precisely to interpret the requirements and needs of people who have lost the canonical relationship with the world and give them the possibility to recover it or maintain it through communication channels that use their remaining ability to understand. The indoors and outdoors acquire a “prosthesis fun…

Settore ICAR/12 - Tecnologia Dell'Architettura

The regulation of efferocytosis signaling pathways and adipose tissue homeostasis in physiological conditions and obesity: Current understanding and …

2022

Obesity is associated with changes in the resolution of acute inflammation that contribute to the clinical complications. The exact mechanisms underlying unresolved inflammation in obesity are not fully understood. Adipocyte death leads to pro-inflammatory adipose tissue macrophages, stimulating additional adipocyte apoptosis. Thus, a complex and tightly regulated process to inhibit inflammation and maintain homeostasis after adipocyte apoptosis is needed to maintain health. In normal condition, a specialized phagocytic process (efferocytosis) performs this function, clearing necrotic and apoptotic cells (ACs) and controlling inflammation. For efficient and continued efferocytosis, phagocyt…

2021

[EN] This paper presents a teaching innovation applied to a Financial Mathematics group of the Bachelor's Degree in International Business and its adaptation to the context of COVID-19. With the aim of improving academic results and promoting learning in knowledge and skills that is meaningful and in line with the principles of the European Higher Education Area, flipped classroom is applied in combination with other active methodologies, whose philosophy is summed up as "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn" (B. Franklin). The academic results and the results of an ad-hoc survey reveal a satisfactory achievement of the objectives of the innovation.
