Terminology for contrast-enhanced sonography: a practical glossary.
2007
Objective. The purpose of this glossary is to offer an updated guide to the correct terminology for contrast-enhanced sonography. Methods. This report was prepared by a panel of radiologists from the Sonography Section of the Italian Association of Medical Radiology. A leading author prepared a list of terms based on a comprehensive literature survey. The draft was analyzed by 3 experts on the topic of contrast-enhanced sonography. These reviewers reached a consensus and prepared the final version. Results. A list of 137 terms is included. These terms are briefly defined. Their proper application is discussed, with special reference to potential misleading uses. Conclusions. Contrast-enhanc…
Obstacle Detection in an Unstructured Industrial Robotic System: Comparison of Hidden Markov Model and Expert System
2012
Abstract This paper presents a comparison of two approaches for detecting unknown obstacles inside the workspace of an industrial robot using a laser rangefinder for 2-D measurements. The two approaches are based on Expert System (ES) and Hidden Markov Model (HMM). The results presented in the paper demonstrate that both approaches are able to correctly detect and classify unknown objects. The ES is characterised by low computational requirements and an easy setup when relatively few known objects are to be included inside the workspace. HMMs are characterised by a higher flexibility and the ability to handle a larger amount of known objects inside the workspace. Another significant benefit…

Ventilation-Perfusion Ratio in Perflubron During Partial Liquid Ventilation
2010
BACKGROUND: Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of fluorine-19 allows for the mapping of oxygen partial pressure within perfluorocarbons in the alveolar space (Pao(2)). Theoretically, fMRI-detected Pao(2) can be combined with the Fick principle approach, i.e., a mass balance of oxygen uptake by ventilation and delivery by perfusion, to quantify the ventilation-perfusion ratio (Va/Q) of a lung region: The mixed venous blood and the inspiratory oxygen fraction, which are equal for all lung regions, are measured. In addition, the local expiratory oxygen fraction and the end capillary oxygen content, both of which may differ between the lung regions, are calculated using the fMRI-detec…
Water-Soluble Aza-BODIPYs: Biocompatible Organic Dyes for High Contrast In Vivo NIR-II Imaging
2020
International audience; A simple NIR-II emitting water-soluble system has been developed and applied in vitro and in vivo. In vitro, the fluorophore quickly accumulated in 2D and 3D cell cultures and rapidly reached the tumor in rodents, showing high NIR-II contrast for up to 1 week. This very efficient probe possesses all the qualities necessary for translation to the clinic as well as for the development of NIR-II emitting materials.
Context-Aware Visual Exploration of Molecular Datab
2006
Facilitating the visual exploration of scientific data has received increasing attention in the past decade or so. Especially in life science related application areas the amount of available data has grown at a breath taking pace. In this paper we describe an approach that allows for visual inspection of large collections of molecular compounds. In contrast to classical visualizations of such spaces we incorporate a specific focus of analysis, for example the outcome of a biological experiment such as high throughout screening results. The presented method uses this experimental data to select molecular fragments of the underlying molecules that have interesting properties and uses the res…
Multilayer Network Model of Movie Script
2018
Network models have been increasingly used in the past years to support summarization and analysis of narratives, such as famous TV series, books and news. Inspired by social network analysis, most of these models focus on the characters at play. The network model well captures all characters interactions, giving a broad picture of the narration’s content. A few works went beyond by introducing additional semantic elements, always captured in a single layer network. In contrast, we introduce in this work a multilayer network model to capture more elements of the narration of a movie from its script: people, locations, and other semantic elements. This model enables new measures and insights…
Second to fourth digit ratios and the implicit gender self-concept
2007
Abstract Intersexual and intrasexual variation in the ratio of index and ring finger lengths (2D:4D) is thought to be a marker of fetal androgen and estrogen levels. Thus, 2D:4D ratios have been expected to be associated with the development of the gender self-concept (masculinity vs. femininity). These associations have, however, proven to be empirically rather small and lower than expected. By arguing that early developmental events more greatly influence implicit as compared with explicit self-concepts, we hypothesized that 2D:4D ratios might be associated with the implicit gender self-concept – assessed using an Implicit Association Test – as opposed to the self-reported explicit gender…
¿Cómo se replica afirmativamente en español e italiano?
2017
This article is part of a broader project aiming to describe the pragmatic strategies in Spanish and Italian task-oriented dialogues. Specifically it intends to highlight the different communicative dynamics depending on the use of affirmative responses carried out with the Spanish particles hum, sí, vale, ya, bien, exacto, etc. and Italian markers uhm, sì, okay, perfetto, etc. The method of analysis used has allowed to delineate two ‘stylistic’ tendencies that differ on the characterisation of the speaker’s stance about the interaction: Italian speakers present themselves as guides leading the achievement of the task, Spanish speakers moreover present themselves like autonomous individuals…
Pour une correction phonétique personnalisée en FLE ou de la remédiation "sur mesure"
2017
Herein we would like to rise up a concern of the error correction of pronunciation in French as a Foreign Language. The results of the experimental acoustic analysis (concerning the values of acoustic vowel formants F1 and F2) enabled to precisely specify the difficulties of the experiment’s participants in a field of French vocal system. In relation to the differences of vocal systems of French and Polish language we suggest custom solutions on a didactic level. Based on verbo-tonal method for phonetic integration the error correction activities had been individually elaborated for each participant.
