Songs in passerine birds are important for territory defense and mating. Speciation rates in oscine passerines are so high, due to cultural evolution, that this bird lineage makes up half of the extant bird species. Leaf warblers are a speciose Old-World passerine family of limited morphological differentiation, so that songs are even more important for species delimitation. We took 16 sonographic traits from song recordings of 80 leaf warbler taxa and correlated them with 15 potentially explanatory variables, pairwise, and in linear models. The microscopic theory of diffusion-controlled defect aggregation

Abstract The kinetics of diffusion-controlled aggregation of primary Frenkel defects ( F and H centers) in irradiated CaF 2 crystals is theoretically studied. Microscopic theory is based on the discrete-lattice formalism for the single defect densities (concentrations) and the coupled joint densities of similar and dissimilar defects treated in terms of the Kirkwood superposition approximation. Conditions and dynamics of the efficient F center aggregation during crystal heating after irradiation are analyzed.

Photoluminescence of Ga-face AlGaN/GaN single heterostructures

Abstract The radiative recombination in Ga-face Al 0.30 Ga 0.70 N/GaN single heterostructures (SHs) was studied by photoluminescence (PL) measurements. An energy shift of the excitonic transitions toward higher energies was observed, indicating the presence of residual compressive strain in the GaN layer. In addition to these exciton lines, a broad band energetically localized between the exciton lines and the LO-phonon replica was noticed in the undoped SH. From its energy position, excitation power dependence, as well as temperature behaviour, we have attributed this luminescence to the H -band (HB), which is representative of the two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) recombination.

Long-term optical and X-ray variability of the Be/X-ray binary H 1145-619: Discovery of an ongoing retrograde density wave

Multiwavelength monitoring of Be/X-ray binaries is crucial to understand the mechanisms producing their outbursts. H 1145-619 is one of these systems, which has recently displayed X-ray activity. We investigate the correlation between the optical emission and the X-ray activity to predict the occurrence of new X-ray outbursts from the inferred state of the circumstellar disc. We have performed a multiwavelength study of H 1145-619 from 1973 to 2017 and present here a global analysis of its variability over the last 40 years. Simultaneous readout of two charge qubits

We consider a system of two solid state charge qubits, coupled to a single read-out device, consisting of a single-electron transistor (SET). The conductance of each tunnel junction is influenced by its neighboring qubit, and thus the current through the transistor is determined by the qubits' state. The full counting statistics of the electrons passing the transistor is calculated, and we discuss qubit dephasing, as well as the quantum efficiency of the readout. The current measurement is then compared to readout using real-time detection of the SET island's charge state. For the latter method we show that the quantum efficiency is always unity.
