Co-ordination of copper(II) ions by prolyl-α,β-dehydroamino acids: comparative studies and general considerations
1996
Potentiometric and spectroscopic measurements and theoretical calculations have revealed that α,β-dehydroamino acid residues have a considerable effect on the co-ordination ability of an adjacent amide nitrogen towards Cu2+ ions. Also the side chain of such residues affects the stability constants and, in some cases, the binding mode of short peptides containing α,β-dehydroamino acid residues. The theoretical calculations showed that all dehydroamino acids except α,β-dehydroalanine tend to bend a peptide chain towards a turn conformation. This has a very strong impact on the co-ordination ability of a dehydropeptide ligand.
Synthesis and characterization of mono- and binuclear copper(II) complexes with 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine (terpy) and carboxylates: X-ray crystal struct…
1987
Abstract Perchlorate and hexafluorophosphate salts of monomeric [Cu(terpy)(OOCH)(OH2)]+ and dimeric [Cu(terpy)(OOCR)]22+ cations (terpy = 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine, R = CH3 or C2H5) have been synthesized and characterized by IR, electronic and ESR spectra, and analytical data. Spectroscopic results indicate a five-coordinate, close-to-square pyramidal geometry around the copper(II) ion. The half-field absorption in the ΔMs = 2 region of powdered X-band ESR spectra has been observed for the dimeric species. The crystal structure of [Cu(terpy)(OOCH)(OH2)](ClO4) has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The compound crystallizes in the space group P21/c with unit-cell dimensions: a = 7.34…
Ferromagnetic coupling in a one-dimensional molecular railroad copper(II) azido compound containing a defective double cubane motif.
2001
The compound [Cu2(bpm)2(N3)4]n (bpm = bis(pyrazol-1−yl)methane) shows three unique coordination modes (μ1,1-, μ1,1,1-, μ1,1,3-N3) and ferromagnetic interaction between the copper(II) ions. The structure of the compound exhibits a one-dimensional railroad polymer made up of repeating defective dicubane-type units linked by μ1,1,3-N3 bridges.
Copper Complexes with Sulfonamides Derivatives of Natural Amino Acids as Chemical Nucleases
2007
Three new coordination compounds have been prepared by reacting copper salts with sulfonamides derived from amino acids. Their molecular structures have been determined with the aid of single crystal X-ray diffraction. The copper cations are four-coordinated in all cases and the local environment is almost planar. Compound [Cu(ts-gly)(NH3)2]·H2O (1) crystallizes in monoclinic space group P21/c (no 14) with Z = 4 and with unit cell parameters a = 6.0490(12) A, b = 24.719(5) A, c = 9.159(2) A, α = γ = 90°, and β = 94.69(3)°. Compound [Cu(ts-isoleu)(NH3)2] (2) crystallizes in monoclinic space group C2/c (no 8) with Z = 15 and with unit cell parameters a = 30.800(6) A, b = 6.5510(13) A, c = 15.…
Synthesis of N-methyl alkylaminomethane-1,1-diphosphonic acids and evaluation of their complex-formation abilities towards copper(II)
2015
Abstract A series of N -methyl alkylaminomethane-1,1-diphosphonic acids ( 3a – g ) with a common tertiary nitrogen atom (CH 3 –N–R) bearing linear or branched alkyl, cycloheptyl or phenylalkyl R substituents was synthesized in the reaction of diethylphosphonate with triethyl orthoformate and secondary amine followed by hydrolysis, and by the Eschweiler–Clarke methylation of the alkylaminomethane-1,1-diphosphonic acids with formic acid and formaldehyde. Complex-formation abilities of 3a – g towards copper(II) in solution were studied by means of pH-potentiometry, ESI-MS spectrometry, UV–Vis and EPR methods. Evaluation of stability constants for the Cu(II) complexes of 3a – g has revealed the…
Solvothermal synthesis, crystal structure and magnetic properties of homometallic Co(II) and Cu(II) chains with double di(4-pyridyl)sulfide as bridges
2012
Abstract Two new coordination polymers {[Co(μ-4,4′-dps)2(H2O)2](NO3)2·2(4,4′-dps)·4H2O}n (1) and {[Cu(μ-4,4′-dps)2(H2O)2](NO3)2·2H2O}n (2) [4,4′-dps = di(4-pyridyl)sulfide] have been synthesized by solvothermal reactions between the nitrate salts of cobalt(II) (1) and copper(II) (2) and the 4,4′-dps molecule. Compounds 1 and 2 have been characterized by elemental analysis, thermal analysis (TG/DTA), vibrational spectroscopy, single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and variable-temperature magnetic measurements. Compounds 1 and 2 are cationic chain compounds of formula {[M(μ-4,4′-dps)2(H2O)2]n2n+ [M = Co(II) (1) and Cu(II) (2)] with double 4,4′-dps bridges, uncoordinated nitrate anions, an…
Review: Solution equilibria of ternary complexes formed from copper(II), aliphatic amines, and bioligands
2014
This review provides a summary of the coordination chemistry of ligands in the ternary system: copper(II)–aliphatic amine–bioligand, where amine = ethylenediamine – En, diethylenetriamine – Dien, or N, N, N′, N″, N″-pentamethyldiethylenetriamine – Me5dien, and bioligand = selected amino acid, aminohydroxamic acid, or aminophosphonic acid, in aqueous solution. We would like to show the specific interactions of copper(II) in ternary systems in the context of complex equilibria chemistry.
Enantioselective self-assembly of antiferromagnetic hexacopper(ii) wheels with chiral amino acid oxamates
2013
The Cu(2+)-mediated self-assembly of oxamato-based ligands derived from either the (S)- or (R)-enantiomers of the amino acid valine leads to the formation of two antiferromagnetically coupled homochiral anionic hexacopper(II) wheels in the presence of templating tetramethylammonium countercations.
Preparation and Thermochromic Switching between Phosphorescence and Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence of Mononuclear Copper(I) Complexes
2020
Instructive, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly laboratory syntheses of two highly luminescent copper(I) complexes CuI(PPh3)2(pyR) (pyR = pyridine, 4-cyanopyridine) are described for second-year/upper-division undergraduate inorganic chemistry students. Both complexes exhibit bright thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) at ambient temperature and phosphorescence at low temperature. The laboratory experiments familiarize the students with mechanochemical syntheses, cluster and complex formation, ligand substituent effects, and the fascinating phenomenon of luminescence thermochromism.

Compounds 1 and 3 are mononuclear species where each copper atom is five coordinated with a tridentate bpcam and a terminally bound cyanide (1)/thiocyanate (3) ligands creating a basal plane with a water molecule in the axial position of a distorted square pyramid. Compound 2 is made of neutral di-μ-1,1-…
