Dimetallic complexes derived from a novel dinucleating chelating symmetric triazole ligand; crystal structure, magnetic properties and ESR study of b…

1999

Reaction of 3,5-diacetylamino-1,2,4-triazole (Hdaat) with copper(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(II) salts yields dinuclear co-ordination compounds, which were spectroscopically characterized. The crystal and molecular structure of one of the compounds, bis[µ-3,5-diacetylamino-1,2,4-triazolato-O′,N 1,N 2,O″]bis[(nitrato)(aqua)copper(II)] 1, was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 consists of dinuclear units with an inversion center at the midpoint of the Cu–Cu vector. The most remarkable feature of this structure is that the daat ligand forms a six-membered chelate ring [Cu–N3–C3–N1–C2–O1; Cua–N4–C4–N5–C5–O2], in contrast with the five-membered chelate rings always found in…

Binuclear Cu2+ complex mediated discrimination between L-glutamate and L-aspartate in water.

2005

L-Glutamate and L-aspartate selectivity is achieved by the action of two Cu2+ metal ions rightly disposed in a cyclophanetype macrocyclic framework; electrochemical sensing of glutamate has been achieved by adsorption of the copper complexes on graphite electrodes. Synthesis, crystal structures and magnetic properties of single and double cyanide-bridged bimetallic Fe2(III)Cu(II) zigzag chains.

2004

The bimetallic complexes [[Fe(III)(phen)(CN)4]2Cu(II)(H2O)2].4H2O (1), [[Fe(III)(phen)(CN)4]2Cu(II)].H2O (2) and [[Fe(III)(bipy)(CN)4]2Cu(II)].2H2O (3) and [[Fe(III)(bipy)(CN)4]2Cu(II)(H2O)2].4H2O (4) (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline and bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine) have been prepared and the structures of 1-3 determined by X-ray diffraction. The structure of 1 is made up of neutral cyanide-bridged Fe(III)-Cu(II) zigzag chains of formula [[Fe(III)(phen)(CN)4]2Cu(II)(H2O)2] and uncoordinated water molecules with the [Fe(phen)(CN)4]- entity acting as a bis-monodentate bridging ligand toward two trans-diaquacopper(II) units through two of its four cyanide groups in cis positions. The structure of 2 can …

Superoxide dismutase activity of ternary copper complexes of sulfathiazole and imidazole derivatives. Synthesis and properties of [CuL2(R-Him)2] [HL=…

2000

Abstract New ternary copper(II) complexes of sulfathiazole (4-amino-N-(thiazol-2-yl)benzenesulfonamide)(HL) and methyl imidazole derivatives have been synthesised and characterised. The crystal structure of the complex [CuL2(4,4-dmHim)2] (1) [4,4-dmHim=4,4-dimethylimidazoline] has been determined. The copper centre has a quasi regular square planar environment with Cu-nitrogen bond lengths ranging from 1.952 to 2.010 A. From the spectroscopic properties of the complexes [CuL2(1,2-dmHim)2] (2) [1,2-dmHim=1,2-dimethylimidazole] and [CuL2(4-mHim)2] (3) [4-mHim=4-methylimidazole] a distorted tetragonal octahedral geometry is deduced. The compounds showed SOD mimetic activity in fact, a low conc…

Crystal structures and magnetic properties of uniform and alternating azido-bridged (2,2′-bipyridyl)copper(II) chains

1998

Abstract Single crystals of four copper(II) complexes of formula [Cu(bipy)(N3)2]n (1,2), [Cu(bipy)2(N3)(ClO4)] (3) and [Cubipy)2(N3)]ClO4 (4) (bipy=2,2′-bipyridine) were obtained from aqueous solutions containing (2,2′-bipyridyl) copper(II) perchlorate and sodium azide, and their crystal structures were determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The structures of compounds 1 and 4 were already known, but the better accuracy of our structural determination of complex 1 led us to reconsider it here. The structures of compounds 1 and 2 are made up of neutral chains of copper(II) ions bridged by two azide groups exhibiting asymmetrical end-on (1) and alternating asymmetrical end-on and end-to-end…

Azide bridged dicopper(II), dicobalt(II) complexes and a rare double μ-chloride bridged ferromagnetic dicobalt(II) complex of a pyrazolyl-pyrimidine …

2012

Abstract Two new dinuclear copper(II) complexes [Cu2(PymPz)2(N3)2Cl2] (1), [Cu2(PymPz)2(N3)4] (2) and two new dinuclear cobalt(II) complexes [Co2(PymPz)2Cl4] (3), [Co2(PymPz)2(N3)4] (4) [PymPz = 2-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine] have been synthesized and characterized crystallographically and spectroscopically. In each of the complexes 1, 2 and 4 the two adjacent metal centers are bridged by a pair of μ-1,1 azide groups whereas in 3 the metal centers are bridged by a pair of chloride ions. In the complexes, all the metal centers are pentacoordinated. In 1 and 2 the copper(II) centers have distorted square pyramidal geometry (τ = 0.18 for 1 and 0.091 for 2) but in 3 an…

Crystal and molecular structure of tris(mepirizole) copper(II) hexafluorophosphate [mepirizole = 4-methoxy-2-5-methoxy-3-methyl-1h-pyrazol-1-yl)-6-me…

1992

Abstract The X-ray crystal structure of Cu(mep)3(PF6)2 [mep = mepirizole or 4-methoxy-2-(5-methoxy-3-methyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-6 methylpyrimidine], obtained from stoichiometric quantities of mep, Cu(NO3)2 and KPF6 in water/ethanol solution was determined. The trisbidentate Cu(mep)32+ cation is observed for the first time. One of the three mep molecules is disordered over two sets of positions related by crystallographic symmetry. The mep molecules exhibit two different conformations A and B: conformation B, which is observed for the first time, derives from the usual conformation A by rotating the pyrimidine ring by 180° around the central CN bond and rotating by 180° the methoxy group bonde…

Coordination abilities of l-glutamic acid γ-monohydroxamic acid towards copper(II) in the absence and presence of some aliphatic amines

2012

Abstract Solution equilibrium studies on the Cu 2+ –(A)–(Glu-γ-ha) ternary systems ((A) = polyamine: ethylenediamine (en), diethylenetriamine (dien), N , N , N ′, N ″, N ″-pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (Me 5 dien); (Glu-γ-ha) =  l -glutamic-γ-hydroxamic acid) have been performed by pH-potentiometry, UV–Vis spectrophotometry and EPR methods. The obtained results suggest the formation of the heteroligand complexes with [Cu(A)(Glu-γ-ha)] + stoichiometry in all studied systems. Our spectroscopic results indicate the tetragonal geometry for the [Cu(en)(Glu-γ-ha)] + species in which Glu-γ-ha acts as a tridentate ligand, the geometry slightly deviated from square pyramidal for [Cu(dien)(Glu-γ-ha)]…

Fluoroquinolone–metal complexes: A route to counteract bacterial resistance?

2014

Abstract Microbial resistance to antibiotics is one of the biggest public health threats of the modern world. Antibiotic resistance is an area of much clinical relevance and therefore research that has the potential to identify agents that may circumvent it or treat resistant infections is paramount. Solution behavior of various fluoroquinolone (FQ) complexes with copper(II) in the presence and absence of 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) was studied in aqueous solution, by potentiometry and/or spectrophotometry, and are herein described. The results obtained showed that under physiological conditions (micromolar concentration range and pH 7.4) only copper(II):FQ:phen ternary complexes are stable.…

Structural, magnetic, and spectroscopic comparative studies on four new derivatives of DIMMAL (2-di1H-2-imidazolylmethylmalonate): a novel generator …

2005

This paper reports the synthesis, structure solution, and magnetic characterization of four new DIMMAL-containing compounds (H 2 DIMMAL = 2-di1H-2-imidazolylmethylmalonic acid), H 2 DIMMAL.H 2 O (1), Na 2 (DIMMAL).5H 2 O (2), [Cu(HDIMMAL) 2 ] (3), and [Cu 2 (DIMMAL) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ].2H 2 O (4). Compound 1, containing two carboxylates and two protonated imidazole rings, adopts the dizwitterion configuration. These monohydrate MBBs pack together into a 3D array driven, as in the other three cases herein reported, by a combination of multiple-path H-bonds and aromatic-aromatic interactions. Compound 2 consists of centrosymmetric Na + tetramers in which four NaO 6 distorted octahedra are interconn…
