Crowdboard: An Augmented Whiteboard to Support Large-Scale Co-Design

Co-design efforts attempt to account for many diverse viewpoints. However, design teams lack support for meaningful real-time interaction with a large community of potential stakeholders. We present Crowdboard, a novel whiteboard system that enables many potential stakeholders to provide real-time input during early-stage design activities, such as concept mapping. Local design teams develop ideas on a standard whiteboard, which is augmented with annotations and comments from online participants. The system makes it possible for design teams to solicit real-time opinions and ideas from a community of people intrinsically motivated to shape the product/service.

Humans have shown a detection advantage of direct vs. averted gaze stimuli in visual search tasks. However, instead of attentional capture by direct gaze, the detection advantage in visual search may depend on attention-grabbing potential of the distractor stimuli to which the target needs to be compared. We investigated attentional capture by direct gaze using the change blindness paradigm, in which successful detection does not require comparison between the target and the distractor items. Crowd-Averse Cyber-Physical Systems: The Paradigm of Robust Mean-Field Games

For a networked controlled system, we illustrate the paradigm of robust mean-field games. This is a modeling framework at the interface of differential game theory, mathematical physics, and $H_{\infty}$ - optimal control that tries to capture the mutual influence between a crowd and its individuals. First, we establish a mean-field system for such games including the effects of adversarial disturbances. Second, we identify the optimal response of the individuals for a given population behavior. Third, we provide an analysis of equilibria and their stability.
PV-Alert: A fog-based architecture for safeguarding vulnerable road users

International audience; High volumes of pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users (VRUs) have much higher casualty rates per mile; not surprising given their lack of protection from an accident. Discretionary Government Consumption, Private Domestic Demand, and Crisis Episodes

This paper analyzes the dynamic impact of discretionary government consumption purchases on private demand. Using a panel of 132 countries from 1960 to 2008, we find that while discretionary changes in government consumption lead to crowding-in effects in the short run, crowding-out effects take over in the medium run. In addition, we also find that both short-term crowding-in and mediumterm crowding out effects are amplified once we control for periods of crisis.

Summary We contribute to the empirical literature on the effect of government spending on economic activity, by assessing the impact of changes in government spending-GDP ratio on (the short-term growth rates of) private consumption and investment. We do this by analysing a panel sample of 145 countries from 1960 to 2007. The results of our paper suggest that government spending produces important crowding-out effects, by negatively affecting both private consumption and investment. Factors influencing tourists’ intention to use COVID-19 contact tracing app

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to develop and test a model that explores the antecedents of tourists’ acceptance of COVID-19 contact tracing app (CTA). Data was obtained from a crowdsourcing platform (Pollfish), in which 400 respondents answered the questionnaire. We used SmartPLS to analyse the data. Results reveal that trust and structural assurance have the strongest relationship. Furthermore, the relationship between trust and destination safety was positive. Finally, self-efficacy moderated the relationship between trust and intention, implying that trust was stronger for tourists who have higher levels of self-efficacy. Recommendations are offered.
Analysis and approximation of one-dimensional scalar conservation laws with general point constraints on the flux

We introduce and analyze a class of models with nonlocal point constraints for traffic flow through bottlenecks, such as exits in the context of pedestrians traffic and reduction of lanes on a road under construction in vehicular traffic. Constraints are defined based on data collected from non-local in space and/or in time observations of the flow. We propose a theoretical analysis and discretization framework that permits to include different data acquisition strategies; a numerical comparison is provided.
