Numerical integration of subtraction terms

2016

Numerical approaches to higher-order calculations often employ subtraction terms, both for the real emission and the virtual corrections. These subtraction terms have to be added back. In this paper we show that at NLO the real subtraction terms, the virtual subtraction terms, the integral representations of the field renormalisation constants and -- in the case of initial-state partons -- the integral representation for the collinear counterterm can be grouped together to give finite integrals, which can be evaluated numerically. This is useful for an extension towards NNLO.

On the Rigorous Calculation of All Ohmic Losses in Rectangular Waveguide Multi-Port Junctions

2005

In this paper, all ohmic losses effects present in rectangular waveguide multi-port junctions are rigorous and efficiently computed. For this purpose, a new formulation based on the theory of cavities, which provides generalized admittance matrix representations for such junctions, is proposed. To validate this theory, we have successfully compared our results with numerical data of a lossy E-plane T-junction and of a hollow waveguide, as well as with experimental measurements of a real H-plane T-junction.

A thermodynamical model of inhomogeneous superfluid turbulence

2007

In this paper we perform a thermodynamical derivation of a nonlinear hydrodynamical model of inhomogeneous superfluid turbulence. The theory chooses as fundamental fields the density, the velocity, the energy density, the heat flux and the averaged vortex line length per unit volume. The restrictions on the constitutive quantities are derived from the entropy principle, using the Liu method of Lagrange multipliers. The mathematical and physical consequences deduced by the theory are analyzed both in the linear and in the nonlinear regime. Field equations are written and the wave propagation is studied with the aim to describe the mutual interactions between the second sound and the vortex t…

Temporal evolution of neoclassical tearing modes in the frequently interrupted regime

2010

A phenomenological method for description of temporal evolution of neoclassical tearing modes in the frequently interrupted regime (FIR) is proposed. The method makes it possible to predict the beginning and the end of the FIR regime as well as the frequency of the FIR drops. A few experimental parameters which are used in the model are commonly measured quantities. Several specific ASDEX Upgrade (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASDEX_Upgrade) FIR discharges with different heating and different FIR behavior are analyzed in detail.

The apparently anomalous effects of surfactants on interfacial tension in the IBA/water system near its upper critical solution temperature

2016

We studied the effect of anionic, cationic, and nonionic surfactants on the interfacial tension between the two phases of the isobutyric acid/water system using spinning drop tensiometry. It has been found that interfacial tension decreases with increasing concentration of the surfactant in the case of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and of dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride (DTAC). However, in the case of Triton X-100 an increase of surfactant concentration leads to an increase of the interfacial tension. Such results are consistent with the upper critical solution temperature (UCST) in the presence of these surfactants: the UCST decreases with increasing SDS and DTAC concentrations while it i…

Spatio‐temporal assessment of illicit drug use at large scale : evidence from 7 years of international wastewater monitoring

2019

Background and aims Wastewater‐based epidemiology is an additional indicator of drug use that is gaining reliability to complement the current established panel of indicators. The aims of this study were to: (i) assess spatial and temporal trends of population‐normalized mass loads of benzoylecgonine, amphetamine, methamphetamine and 3,4‐methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) in raw wastewater over 7 years (2011–17); (ii) address overall drug use by estimating the average number of combined doses consumed per day in each city; and (iii) compare these with existing prevalence and seizure data. Design Analysis of daily raw wastewater composite samples collected over 1 week per year from 2011 to…

Severity of Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis and Risk of Ipsilateral Hemispheric Ischaemic Events: Results from the ACSRS Study

2005

Objectives. This study determines the risk of ipsilateral ischaemic neurological events in relation to the degree of asymptomatic carotid stenosis and other risk factors. Methods. Patients (n = 1115) with asymptomatic internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis greater than 50% in relation to the bulb diameter were followed up for a period of 6-84 (mean 37.1) months. Stenosis was graded using duplex, and clinical and biochemical risk factors were recorded. Results. The relationship between ICA stenosis and event rate is linear when stenosis is expressed by the ECST method, but S-shaped if expressed by the NASCET method. In addition to the ECST grade of stenosis (RR 1.6; 95% CI 1.21-2.15), histor…

Comparative Analysis of Natural Gas Pipeline Interconnections

2021

The paper shows a comparison between two intervention methods for interconnecting two gas transmission pipelines within a natural gas transmission system. One intervention implies shutdown of pipelines, while the other one in-service pipelines. Each method is described in detail along with the main technological issues, as well as the related advantages and disadvantages. The technological procedures imply special working techniques such as welding or hot tapping in service pipelines.
