Cutting performance and indentation behaviour of diamond films on Co-cemented tungsten carbide

2000

Abstract Diamond films were grown by Hot Filament Chemical Vapour Deposition (HFCVD) on differently pretreated ISO-grade K10 cemented carbide (WC-5.8 wt.%Co) cutting inserts. Etching with diluted HNO3 and surface roughening by Murakami's reagent were used as substrate pretreatments. The adhesion of the films was evaluated by indentation tests. In order to obtain a reliable estimation of the adhesion by the slope of the crack radius–indentation load curves, a careful SEM measurement of the crack lengths was performed. Bare and diamond-coated cutting inserts were used for turning tests of Al2O3-reinforced aluminum alloy. The adhesion levels obtained from the indentation curves correlated well…

Angle resolved X-ray photoemission spectroscopy double layer model for in situ characterization of metal organic chemical vapour deposition nanometri…

2007

International audience; In situ Angle Resolved X-ray Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARXPS) characterizations of TiO2 thin films grown on silicon by Metal Organic Chemical Vapour Deposition were performed in order to get information on interfacial reactions at the first stages of the growth, one of the aims being to understand the influence of deposition conditions. Thickness measurements were also carried out from ARXPS analyses. As the real structure of the films was shown to be a double layer system such as TiO2/SiO2/Si, an ARXPS model of thickness and surface coverage determination was applied to each layer independently. However, the application of this model to very thin films underestima…

High Performance Solar Blind Detectors based on AlGaN grown by MBE and MOCVD

2004

ABSTRACTSolar blind detectors based on AlGaN grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy and Metal Organic Vapor Phase Epitaxy have been fabricated and characterized. Metal Semiconductor Metal (MSM) detectors and vertical Schottky detectors have been realized, with a design that allows back side illumination. The growth was optimized in order to improve the layer quality, avoid crack formation, and provide the best detector performance. The technological process was also optimized in order to reduce the dark currents and improve the spectral rejection ratio, which is a key factor for solar blind detection. As a result, a rejection ratio of 5 decades between the UV (below 300 nm) and 400 nm, and a steep…

Morphological and Chemical Evolution of Gradually Deposited Diamond-Like Carbon Films on Polyethylene Terephthalate: From Subplantation Processes to …

2016

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) are nowadays intensively studied composites due to their excellent gas barrier properties and biocompatibility. Despite their applicative features being highly explored, the interface properties and structural film evolution of DLC coatings on PET during deposition processes are still sparsely investigated. In this study two different types of DLC films were gradually deposited on PET by radio frequency plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (RF-PECVD) using acetylene plasma. The surface morphology of the deposited samples has been analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). Their chemical composition was investigated by …

Opportunity of metallic interconnects for ITSOFC : Reactivity and electrical property.

2006

International audience; Iron-base alloys (Fe-Cr) are proposed hereafter as materials for interconnect of planar-type intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cell (ITSOFC); they are an alternative solution instead of the use of ceramic interconnects. These steels form an oxide layer (chrornia) which protects the interconnect from the exterior environment, but is an electrical insulator. One solution envisaged in this work is the deposition of a reactive element oxide coating, that slows down the formation of the oxide layer and that increases its electric conductivity. The oxide layer, formed at high temperature on the uncoated alloys, is mainly composed of chromia; it grows in accordance …

Colloidal lithography and Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition process integration to fabricate ZnO nanohole arrays

2010

A complete set up of optimal process conditions for an effective colloidal lithography/catalyst assisted MOCVD process integration is presented. It mainly focuses on the determination of the deposition temperature threshold for ZnO Metal-Organic Chemical Vapour Deposition (MOCVD) as well as the concentration of metal-organic silver (Ag) catalyst. Indeed, the optimization of such process parameters allows to tailor the ZnO film morphology in order to make the colloidal lithography/catalyst assisted MOCVD approach a valuable bottom up method to fabricate bi-dimensional ordered ZnO nanohole arrays. Mediterranean Diet and Gene-Mediterranean Diet Interactions in Determining Intermediate Cardiovascular Disease Phenotypes

2012

According to European statistics, 2008 for CVD, the leading causes of death in Europe are coronary heart disease and stroke. In Europe, deaths from these diseases are 4.3 million each year. Nearly half (48%) of all deaths are due to CVD (54% of deaths in women and 43% of deaths in men). Regional variations in cardiovascular mortality have been observed both between and within countries in Europe (Sans et al., 1997; Muller et al., 2004). Coronary heart disease mortality patterns showed a clear north–east to south–west gradient in CVD mortality (1990–1992; 45–74 years age-adjusted) with the lowest rates for both men and women in France, Spain, Switzerland, and Italy (Sans et al., 1997). NUOVI VETRI TERMOCROMICI: ANALISI DEI CONSUMI ELETTRICI NEL MODELLO DI UN EDIFICIO (NEW THERMOCHROMIC GLAZING: ENERGY CONSUMPTION ANALYSIS IN A BUILD…

2009

In this work we tested the energy performance of the new thermochromic glazing developed at the University College London (UCL) under the supervision of Prof. Ivan P. Parkin. The aim of this study is understanding how efficient these coating could be if applied in several climate conditions at different latitudes in the northern hemisphere and in different kind of buildings in comparison to some products by Pilkington Glass UK.

Hybrid aerosol assisted atmospheric pressure Chemical Vapour Deposition: a facile route toward nano-composite thin films?

2009

A hybrid chemical vapour deposition strategy is presented as a facile route for the production of vanadium dioxide nano-composite thin films. The effect of the inclusion of gold nano-particles and the use of a surfactant molecule; tetraoctylammonium bromide (TOAB), is discussed. The films are fully characterised and it is shown that micro-structural changes lead to an enhancement of thermochromic properties, whilst gold nano-particles lead to a change in the films optical properties. Optical data is used in energy modelling studies to elucidate the films potential as an energy saving coating in architectural glazing.

Detector-electrode for alpha spectrometry in water sample, numerical and early feasibility investigation toward thermocompression bonding assembly pr…

2020

International audience; This study focuses on the feasibility of a detector-electrode for direct alpha measurement in aqueous samples. Such a device could be made by adding a boron doped diamond electrode on top of a standard silicon detector, with bonding and insulating layers. The impact of these different layers has been investigated by Monte-Carlo simulation (MCNP6), to find a compromise between alpha detection of the silicon, electrode and shielding properties of the diamond. The assembly process involving thermocompression between both substrates was successfully achieved under a clean room conditions.
