Bulk pre-reactional transformations preceding the thermal decomposition of calcium hydroxide into oxide

The present paper is an extended abstract which should be considered as an introduction to the papers already published by us on this new topic. An extended synthesis of these papers was given in the lecture. The original information introduced here is the figure. It is a PH2O vs. T diagram which gives the pre-reactional domain between the stability domains of calcium hydroxide and calcium oxide. Chemical reactions are proposed as an interpretation of the observed pre-reactional transformations.

Fast Solution Precursor Synthesis of the 2223 Phase: the Role of Lead in the Reaction Pathway

ABSTRACTValuable mechanistic information, about the reaction pathway in the formation of the 2223 phase, has been obtained by the use of a solution synthesis route. The presence of lead in the starting mixture has remarkable effects on the nature and stability of the different intermediates: i) the grain size and morphology of Bi2CuO4 is severely changed, ii) calcium carbonate is partially decomposed to yield the calcium plumbate, iii) the 2201 phase results stabilized against the formation of the collapsed phase Bi17Sr16Cu7O49-δ, iv) the melting point of the intermediate 2212 is lowered by about 10 °C. Effect of proteins, phytates, ascorbic acid and citric acid on dialysability of calcium, iron, zinc and copper in soy-based infant formulas.

The possible effect of ascorbic acid, citric acid, proteins and phytate on dialysability of Ca, Fe, Zn and Cu in soy-based infant formulas is studied, taking dialysability as a measure of the amount of element available for absorption. Different dialysis percentages for similar element contents in different formulas are found. A regression analysis was applied between Ca, Zn, Cu and Fe dialysis percentages and soy-based formula components to estimate the possible influence of the latter on the dialysability of the elements. The influence of Fe3+ doping on thermally induced crystallization and phase evolution of amorphous calcium phosphate

The present study investigates thermally induced crystallization and phase evolution of amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) partially substituted with Fe3+ ions (M/P = 1.5 : 1). It was demonstrated that the presence of Fe3+ ions radically changes the crystallization behavior of ACP and completely prevents the formation of α-tricalcium phosphate (α-TCP, Ca3(PO4)2), which is the first crystalline phase obtained from non-substituted ACP upon thermal treatment. Surprisingly, calcium deficient hydroxyapatite (CDHA) was obtained instead of α-TCP. Such unusual crystallization behavior was observed with a doping level as low as 0.1 mol% with respect to Ca ions. Orchestia cavimana is a crustacean that cyclically replaces its calcified cuticle during molting cycles in order to grow. Its terrestrial way of life requires storage of calcium during each premolt period, as calcareous concretions, in tubular diverticula of the midgut. Effects of the organic calcium antagonists verapamil and flunarizine on pentylenetetrazol induced paroxysmal depolarizations were tested in organotypic neocortical explants taken from neonatal rats. In these in vitro experiments the papaverin derivative verapamil depressed, and finally abolished, epileptic discharges in all cases. The piperazine derivative flunarizine, however, which is known to suppress epileptic discharges in hippocampal CA3 neurons (Bingmann and Speckmann 1986), showed no significant antiepileptic effects in the explanted neocortical neurons.
