Retina in various animal models of neuronal ceroid-lipofuscinosis
1992
The childhood forms of human neuronal ceroid-lipofuscinosis (NCL) are invariably associated with a severe progressive retinopathy which commences at the photoreceptor level morphologically and proceeds to a final loss of neuronal cells accompanied by severe gliosis. In respective spontaneous animal conditions of NCL, in English setters, Dalmatian dogs, and New Zealand sheep, retinal involvement is not commensurate although the retina does not seem to be completely unaffected. In canine NCL, there might be functional and electro-physiological impairment of retinal cells, but retinal atrophy is not obvious. In ovine NCL, the retina, apart from accumulating NCL-specific lipopigments within neu…
The reciprocal link between music and movement studied through music-induced movements
2014
Music and movement are inseparable. The movements that are spontaneously procuded when listening to music are thought to be related to the close relationship between the perceptual and motor system in listeners. This particular link is the main topic of this thesis. A first approach was focused on the impact of music-induced movements on music cognition. In two studies, we show that moving along to music neither enhances the retention of new musical pieces (Study 1) nor the retention of the contextual information related to their encoding (Study 2). These results suggest a shallow processing inherent to the expression of musical affordances required for the production of music-induced movem…
Chemical intervention in senescence-accelerated mice metabolism for modeling neurodegenerative diseases: an overview
2004
Abstract SAMP1 is a line of inbred mice with a pronounced misbalance between generation and neutralization of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in brain and other tissues. This results in accumulation of molecular defects in lipids, proteins and DNA moieties. The metabolic disorders appear at a very early stage of ontogenic development and induce morphological and behavioral defects manifesting from the fourth month after birth. 1-Methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) treatment of these mice induced specific changes that closely resembled parkinsonian syndrome. Neuropeptide carnosine prevented toxic effects of MPTP and protected the animals against experimental parkinsonism.
Space of signatures as inverse limits of Carnot groups
2021
We formalize the notion of limit of an inverse system of metric spaces with 1-Lipschitz projections having unbounded fibers. The construction is applied to the sequence of free Carnot groups of fixed rank n and increasing step. In this case, the limit space is in correspondence with the space of signatures of rectifiable paths in ℝn, as introduced by Chen. Hambly-Lyons’s result on the uniqueness of signature implies that this space is a geodesic metric tree. As a particular consequence we deduce that every path in ℝn can be approximated by projections of some geodesics in some Carnot group of rank n, giving an evidence that the complexity of sub-Riemannian geodesics increases with the step.

A distanza …
Evolution of indigenous starter microorganisms and physicochemical parameters in spontaneously fermented beef, horse, wild boar and pork salamis prod…
2020
Abstract The present work was carried out to evaluate the microbiological and physicochemical composition of salamis produced with the meat of beef, horse, wild boar and pork. Salami productions occurred under controlled laboratory conditions to exclude butchery environmental contaminations, without the addition of nitrate and nitrite. All trials were monitored during the ripening (13 °C and 90% relative humidity) extended until 45 d. The evolution of physicochemical parameters showed that beef and pork salamis were characterized by a higher content of branched chain fatty acids (FA) and rumenic acid than horse and wild boar salamis, whereas the last two productions showed higher values of …
2009
Use of legume grains in substitution of soybean meal in organic lamb meat production. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of replacing soybean meal in the diet with alternative legume grains without GMO presence and at low aflatoxin risk, on the growth and carcass and meat quality traits of lambs. After weaning at 66±6 d of age, 28 male Comisana lambs were divided into 4 groups and gradually adapted to diets over a 15-d period. Until slaughter at 129±6 d of age, each group received ad libitum pelleted alfalfa hay and concentrates differing for the protein source: chickpeas (CP), faba beans (FB), peas (PE) and soybean meal (SM). Lambs growth and carcasses weight were not modified by the…
