In this article a modified bilobed flap from mastoid and lateral neck skin for reconstruction of complex defects of the posteromedial surface of the auricle and mastoid skin, with the preservation of the retroauricular sulcus, is described. Reconstruction of the postero-medial auricular surface has almost never been a concern for reconstructive surgeons. It is in fact a shaded area with little aesthetic relevance and direct closure, skin grafting and even secondary healing are used for skin cancer defects repair. Abstract Background Cell therapy (CTx) is a strategy to support cardiac regeneration after myocardial infarction (MI). Thus far, clinical studies provided mixed results. Introduction Xanthelasma palpebrarum (XP) is a common xanthomatous lesion of the eyelid and periorbital skin. Several methods of treatment have been reported in the literature, each having its own indications and risks. We present a new treatment method for removing XP using a plasma exeresis device (Plexr®, GMV, Italy). Sonography and MRI of experimental muscle injuries

After sonographical examination with a 7.5-MHz linear array scanner, we created an experimental muscle injury of known sitze and location on 28 New Zealand white rabbits by stabbing them with a scalpel in the supraspinatus muscle. The changes in the healing process were followed and documented by sonography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) before and 2, 5, 11, 14, 36 and 64 days after injury. The changes in sonography and MRI followed a regular course. Ultrasound revealed an echo-poor area after injury with ever increasing echogenicity from the 14th day. With a mean follow-up of 10.8 years, 160 female and 29 male patients were investigated after successful correction of vesicoureterorenal reflux. All patients suffered from urinary tract infection (UTI) preoperatively, while postoperatively 42% of the patients developed further UTIs but with a significantly diminished rate of febrile infections. In comparison to a group of patients without postoperative UTI (n = 16), the uroepithelial cells of those patients with a high infection rate after reflux correction showed a significantly lower bacterial growth suppression (n = 37).
