Probabilistic small area risk assessment using GIS-based data: a case study on Finnish childhood diabetes

A Bayesian hierarchical spatial model is constructed to describe the regional incidence of insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) among the under 15-year-olds in Finland. The model exploits aggregated pixel-wise locations for both the cases and the population at risk. Typically such data arise from combining geographic information systems (GIS) with large databases. The dates of diagnosis and locations of the cases are observed from 1987 to 1996. The population at risk counts are available for every second year during the same period. The aim of this article is to present the results of a questionnaire-based study carried out as part of the author’s Master’s Degree dissertation about Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard-of-hearing (SDH). In particular, the need to gather specific information regarding audience design will be highlighted in the paper, since this research field has long been neglected in Italy. The questions were aimed at shedding light on the needs, cultural environment and world-view of Italian SDH users, by eliciting personal data as well as subtitlerelated information. Formalized classification of the class Isoëto-Nanojuncetea has not been performed in Poland. We used 69,562 relevés stored in Polish Vegetation Database. Based on the literature and expert knowledge we selected 63 diagnostic species for the Isoëto-Nanojuncetea class. Unequivocal classification was applied in this work according to Cocktail method. Range-based versus automated markerless image-based techniques for rock art documentation

Nowadays there is a huge proliferation of fully automatic image-based solutions producing either three-dimensional (3D) point clouds or 3D models. However, the reliability of the output is not usually reported and clarified. This paper presents a comparison of the 3D modelling results achieved on two rock art shelters at separate archaeological sites using a high-resolution digital camera.
