Topical anti-inflammatory activity of some Asian medicinal plants used in dermatological disorders.
2001
The topical anti-inflammatory activity of extracts from Cassia angustifolia, Rheum palmatum, Coptis chinensis, Phellodendron amurense and Scutellaria baicalensis, plants used in traditional East Asian medicine against different skin disorders, was studied. Though in different degree, all the extracts significantly inhibited the edema induced by 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA), in both single or multiple application, oxazolone, and arachidonic acid (AA). None of the extracts inhibited in vitro the activity of phospholipase A(2) (PLA(2)) from Naja naja.
Influence of Senna, Fibre, and Fibre + Senna on Colonic Transit in Loperamide-induced Constipation
1993
Retarded colonic transit and disturbed defecation are the most prominent pathophysiological mechanisms in constipation. Both may be influenced by bulking agents and by laxatives such as senna. Direct measurements of the influence of such substances on colonic transit are rare mainly because of technical problems. We measured gastric emptying, small and large intestinal transit in 24 healthy volunteers by a newly developed method employing a metal detector. Twelve persons taking a normal diet received loperamide in a dose sufficient to double the individual transit time. All subjects measured gastrointestinal transit time under normal conditions and with Sennatin containing purified sennosid…

Caffeate and piperidine-3-ol derivatives from the stem bark of Cassia sieberiana
2019
A new caffeate derivative from the ethanol extract of the stem bark of Cassia sieberiana DC. is described herein along with the known secondary metabolites spectaline (2), iso-6-cassine (3), 3-O-methyl-chiro-inositol (4), monobehenin (5), octyl nonadecyloate (6), β-sitosterol (7), stigmasterol (8) and sitosterol 3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (9). The chemical structures were elucidated by means of various spectroscopic and spectrometric techniques. Extract and isolated compounds were devoid of inhibitory action against the herein selected bacterial strains (MICs > 256 μg/mL) but showed capacities to reduce 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical (EC50 < 3 μg/mL) considerably better than the …
L'INDIRIZZO PAIDEUTICO DI UN MAESTRO DELL'ANTICO MONACHESIMO: AD QUARTUM ... PERVENIRE (CASSIAN., CONL., 3,10)
2008
Inhibition of Trypanosoma cruzi by plant extracts used in Chinese medicine.
2004
In this work, we assessed the effect of extracts obtained from 17 plants used in traditional Chinese medicine. These extracts were tested in vitro with the epimastigote form of Trypanosoma cruzi, clone Bra C(15) C(2), at 27 degrees C in F-29 medium at a concentration of 100 microg/ml in axenic cultures. Allopurinol was used as reference drug. Seven plant extracts showed inhibitory activities lower than 25%. Pueraria lobata, Mahonia beaei, Dictamus dasycarpus, Kochia scoparia, Sophora flavescens and Ligustrum lucidum showed effects with inhibition values between 25% and 60%, whereas Lithospermum erythrorhizon, Saussurea lappa, Melia toosendan and Cinnamomum cassia showed the greatest inhibit…
