Formulation strategy towards minimizing viscosity mediated negative food effect on disintegration and dissolution of immediate release tablets.
2017
Food induced viscosity can delay disintegration and subsequent release of API from solid dosage form which may lead to severe reduction in the bioavailability of BCS type III compounds. Formulations of such tablets need to be optimized in view of this postprandial viscosity factor. In this study, three super disintegrants, croscarmellose sodium (CCS), cross-linked polyvinylpolypyrrolidone (CPD), and sodium starch glycolate (SSG) were assessed for their efficiency under simulated fed state. Tablets containing these disintegrants were compressed at 10 and 30 KN, while taking lactose as a soluble filler. In addition to other compendial tests, disintegration force of these formulations was meas…
Die molekularen Konstanten von Polycarbonaten in Lösung
1959
Making natural products from renewable feedstocks: back to the roots?
2019
Covering: up to mid-2019 This review highlights the utilization of biomass-derived building blocks in the total synthesis of natural products. An overview over several renewable feedstock classes, namely wood/lignin, cellulose, chitin and chitosan, fats and oils, as well as terpenes, is given, covering the time span from the initial beginning of natural product synthesis until today. The focus is put on the origin of the employed carbon atoms and on the nature of the complex structures that were assembled therefrom. The emerging trend of turning away from petrochemically derived starting materials back to bio-based resources, just as seen in the early days of total synthesis, shall be demon…
Determination of cow's milk and ripening time in nonbovine cheese by capillary electrophoresis of the ethanol-water protein fraction
2000
A novel method is reported for analyzing adulteration of goat and ewe cheeses with cow's milk: capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) in isoelectric, acidic buffers (50 mM imino diacetic acid, IDA, pH = pI 2.3). The cheese samples were extracted with a 20:80 v/v ethanol-water mixture in presence of 3 M urea and 1% beta-mercaptoethanol for 1 h. After centrifugation and lipid extraction, the samples were dissolved in 50 mM IDA, 6 M urea and 0.5% hydroxyethyl cellulose and analyzed by CZE at 700 V/cm. A total of 18 characteristic peaks were resolved among the three types of cheeses and 18 variables were defined as their respective areas. There was excellent similarity among the electrophoretic p…
Multicomponent solid dispersion as a formulation strategy to improve drug permeation: A case study on the anti-colorectal cancer irinotecan
2019
Abstract Multicomponent solid dispersions (MSD)s are frequently proposed as efficient drug delivery systems to improve drug solubility and bioavailability. In this study, the effects of specific excipients, such as mannitol, inulin, poly(methyl methacrylate-co-methacrylic)acid (PMMA) and cellulose acetate phthalate (CAP) have been tested to potentially improve irinotecan (IRN) permeation in the intestinal tract with the intention to protect the drug from the gastric environment. MSDs were formulated as microparticles by Spray-Drying technique. Raw materials and microparticles have been characterized by FTIR analysis to determine hydrogen bonding. SEM images were recorded to investigate morp…
Characterization of an ethanol-tolerant 1,4-β-xylosidase produced byPichia membranifaciens
2012
Aims: The purification and biochemical properties of the 1,4-β-xylosidase of an oenological yeast were investigated. Methods and Results: An ethanol-tolerant 1,4-β-xylosidase was purified from cultures of a strain of Pichia membranifaciens grown on xylan at 28°C. The enzyme was purified by sequential chromatography on DEAE cellulose and Sephadex G-100. The relative molecular mass of the enzyme was determined to be 50 kDa by SDS-PAGE. The activity of 1,4-β-xylosidase was optimum at pH 6·0 and at 35°C. The activity had a Km of 0·48 ± 0·06 mmol l−1 and a Vmax of 7·4 ± 0·1 μmol min−1 mg−1 protein for p-nitrophenyl-β-d-xylopyranoside. Conclusions: The enzyme characteristics (pH and thermal st…
Relevance of creep and oscillatory tests for understanding how cellulose emulsions function as fat replacers in biscuits
2015
Abstract The fats that are mostly employed in biscuit manufacturing contain a high percentage of saturated fatty acids, giving them the solid consistency that is needed for biscuit manufacture. For health reasons, lower levels of saturated fatty acids and elimination of trans fatty acids are desirable. An emulsion of sunflower oil, water and a cellulose ether was employed to replace all the conventional fat in a short dough recipe. The structure of the different doughs was measured by oscillatory and creep rheological tests and the results were related to dough performance during baking. The effect of the methoxyl and hydroxypropyl content of the cellulose was also evaluated. The compliance…
Treponema isoptericolens sp. nov., a novel spirochaete from the hindgut of the termite Incisitermes tabogae.
2008
A novel spirochaete, Treponema sp. strain SPIT5T, was isolated from hindgut contents of the drywood termite Incisitermes tabogae (Snyder). The cells of strain SPIT5T were motile, helical in shape, 0.4-0.5 microm in diameter and generally 12-20 microm long. The strain is obligately anaerobic and ferments different mono-, di- and oligosaccharides by forming ethanol as the main liquid fermentation end product. Furthermore, strain SPIT5T was able to grow anaerobically with yeast extract as sole carbon and energy source. Fastest growth was obtained at 30 degrees C, the temperature at which the termites were also grown. The optimum pH for growth was 7.2, with a range of pH 6.5-8.0. The cells poss…
Characterization of complexes formed between [Me2Sn(IV)]2+ and carboxymethylcelluloses.
2006
Complexes formed between carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and the [Me(2)Sn(IV)]2+ cation have been prepared in the solid state and characterized by FTIR and Mossbauer spectroscopy. The complexes contained CMC with varying molar weight and degree of carboxylation, and the complexes were isolated both from acidic and from neutral solutions at varying metal-to-ligand ratios. The characteristic vibration bands of the ligands were identified from their pH-dependent FTIR spectra. In the organotin(IV) complexes obtained at pH approximately 2, the -COO- moieties were found to be coordinated in a monodentate manner, and the band characteristic of the protonated (unbound) -COO- group(s) was also identifi…
Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose films for the ophthalmic delivery of diclofenac sodium
2012
Abstract Objectives The aim of this study was to prepare diclofenac/hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) and diclofenac-loaded nanoparticles/HPMC films as potential systems for ocular delivery. Methods Two different concentration of the polymer were used: 1.5 and 2.0% w/v. Chitosan–hyaluronic acid nanoparticles were prepared by the ionotropic gelation technique. Nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, drug encapsulation efficiency and rheological studies. In-vitro drug studies and corneal penetration release studies were carried out. Drug release mechanism was finally evaluated by fitting the Ritger and Peppas equation to data. In addit…
