Abstract A sensitive and reliable method using pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) and liquid chromatography (LC) has been developed for the analysis of ochratoxin A (OTA) in breakfast and infants cereals. Influence of several extraction solvents that affect PLE efficiency was studied. The selected PLE operating method was: 10 g of sample was packed into 22 ml stainless-steel cell and OTA was extracted with acetonitrile/water (80:20) at 40 °C, 34 atm in one cycle of 5 min at 60% flush. The mean recovery of OTA was 82 ± 4 at fortification level of 3 ng/g OTA. The limit of quantification (LOQ) of OTA was 0.25 ng/g. Simultaneous analysis of twenty-six mycotoxins in durum wheat grain from Italy

Abstract A multi-mycotoxin analysis method based on liquid chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole mass spectrometry was validated and applied for the determination of twenty-six mycotoxins, including eight trichothecenes, three fumonisins, sterigmatocystin, ochratoxin A, four aflatoxins, zearalenone, five “emerging” mycotoxins and three Alternaria mycotoxins in 74 durum wheat samples from central Italy. Eighty-eight percent of the analysed samples contained one or more mycotoxins, with enniatin B showing the highest contamination levels (78% of samples with levels ranging from 23 to 1826 ng/g), followed by enniatin B1 (10–1384 ng/g) and deoxynivalenol (48–2267 ng/g). Nove le varietà in prova in 11 ambienti del Centro-sud e delle Isole. Buona la media produttiva (5,1 t/ha), superiore di ben 1 t/ha rispetto a quella della precedente annata. Le caratteristiche produttive e qualitative delle varietà da malto attualmente disponibili rendono l'orzo da birra una produzione interessante, anche in ragione del sostanziale deficit produttivo di orzo da birra italiano.

Survey of microbial quality of plant-based foods served in restaurants

This study was carried out to evaluate the microbiological quality of plant-based foods obtained from foodservice establishments. The samples included cereals, legumes, fruits and vegetables. According to the European Commission Regulation (No. 2073/2005 and No. 1441/2007) and Spanish microbiological criteria (No. 3484/2000), vegetables were the plant-based dishes where more samples exceed the adopted limits of mesophilic aerobic counts and Enterobacteriaceae. Furthermore, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were also found in several vegetable dishes. E. coli and Salmonella spp. were detected in 6.6% and 0.7% of lettuce samples, respectively. Sāļums ir viens no abiotiskajiem faktoriem, kam ir būtiska ietekme uz jūras piekrastes, sāls mitrāju, pasaules sauso reģionu augu augšanu un attīstību. Augu sugām, kas dabiski izplatījušās biotopos ar augstu vides sāļumu, raksturīga ievērojami lielāka sāls izturība nekā sugām, kas izplatījušās biotopos ar zemu sāļu koncentrāciju, tai skaitā kultūraugiem. NaCl ir izplatītākais sāļu veids, tāpēc tā ietekme uz augiem tiek visvairāk pētīta. Par citu sāļu veidu ietekmi un to salīdzinājumu ar NaCl ir samērā neliels skaits pētījumu. Uzskata, ka Na+ izraisītais osmotiskais stress, jonu toksiskums un jonu disbalanss izraisa dažādu fizioloģisko procesu neoptimālu norisi augā, kā rezultātā novēro sāļu…
