FIRST EXAMPLES OF DISELENO TWEEZER-LIKE LIGANDS: SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND Pt(II) CYCLOMETALATION

2000

Abstract The synthesis of the first examples of diseleno tweezer-like molecules is described starting from diselenocyanobenzenic or pyridinic compounds and chloronaphthyl or anthryl derivatives. The new diselenides are characterized by mass spectrometry and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. Starting from naphthyl derivatives, it was unambigously demonstrated for the first time their cyclometalation with Pt(II) to form metalloreceptors.

Synthesis and characterization of [Fe(III)(qsal)2][M(III)(pds)2] (M=Cu, Au)

2007

Abstract Salts of the Fe(III) spin crossover cation [FeIII(qsal)2]+ (qsalH = N-(8-quinolyl)salicylaldimine) and monoanions [MIII(pds)2]− (M = Cu, Au; pds = pirazine-2,3-diselenolate) with formula [FeIII(qsal)2][MIII(pds)2] were prepared and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements. These two salts present magnetic properties essentially due to the FeIII centres in the high-spin state (S = 5/2), and do not have any spin transition.

Synthesis and structural characterization of novel tetranuclear organotitanoxane derivatives.

2011

Synthesis of the novel titanoxane compounds, [(TiCl)(TiOH){(Ti)[μ-(η(5)-C(5)Me(4)SiMe(2)O-κO)](2)(μ-O)}(2)(μ-O)] (4) and [{Ti[μ-(η(5)-C(5)Me(4)SiMe(2)O-κO)](μ-O)}(4)] (5) by controlled reaction of the dinuclear titanium oxo complex [{Ti{μ-(η(5)-C(5)Me(4)SiMe(2)O-κO)}Cl](2)(μ-O)] (1) with 2 equiv of LiOH is reported. Complex 4 is innovative and remarkable. It is one of the rare known examples of tetranuclear stable terminal hydroxo titanium complexes, with an open-chained structure, which coincides with the transient metal monohydroxo proposed in the stepwise pathway employed to justify the formation of the hexanuclear complex [{Ti[μ-(η(5)-C(5)Me(4)SiMe(2)O-κO)](μ-O)}(6)] (3) from 1. Synthesis, characterization and a voltammetric study of (Bu4N)2[Mo2Br6]. Oxidation-reduction mechanism of related compounds

1984

The synthesis and characterization of (Bu4N)2[Mo2Br6], obtained from Mo(CO)6, (Bu4N)Br and 1,2-dibromoethane, is described. The electrochemical behaviour of [Mo2Br6]−2 and related species is studied, and an oxidation-reduction mechanism is proposed.

Spin Crossover – Quo Vadis?

2013

This retrospective essay is an attempt to span the bridge over eight decades of research on spin crossover (SCO), one of the most fascinating dynamic electron structure phenomena of inorganic coordination chemistry. The occurrence of SCO compounds of 3d transition metal ions and their characterization regarding magnetic, optical, vibrational, structural, and thermodynamic properties are briefly addressed. Selected case studies of chemical influences and physical effects (pressure, magnetic field, light) on SCO behavior are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the importance of Mossbauer spectroscopy in SCO studies. Light-induced excited spin state trapping (LIESST) and related photoph…

Hybrid magnetic superconductors formed by TaS2 layers and spin crossover complexes.

2013

The restacking of charged TaS2 nanosheets with molecular counterparts has so far allowed for the combination of superconductivity with a manifold of other molecule-intrinsic properties. Yet, a hybrid compound that blends superconductivity with spin crossover switching has still not been reported. Here we continue to exploit the solid-state/molecule-based hybrid approach for the synthesis of a layered TaS2-based material that hosts Fe(2+) complexes with a spin switching behavior. The chemical design and synthetic aspects of the exfoliation/restacking approach are discussed, highlighting how the material can be conveniently obtained in the form of highly oriented easy-to-handle flakes. Finall…

Toward multifunctional single-molecule magnets: characterization of dodecanuclear manganese complexes by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry.

2001

Single-molecule magnets (SMM) based on the dodecanuclear manganese complexes Mn12O12(RCOO)16 can be readily characterized by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. This facilitates the synthesis of complex multifunctional molecules that have potential use in the organization of SMM into films or surfaces.

Physicochemical Characterization of σ-Bonded Aryl Iron(III) Porphycenes. X-ray Structures of (EtioPc)Fe(3,5-C6F2H3) and (EtioPc)In(C6H5), Where EtioP…

1998

A series of iron(III) σ-bonded porphycenes are characterized by their electrochemical and spectroscopic properties. The investigated compounds are represented as (EtioPc)Fe(R), where EtioPc = the dianion of 2,7,12,17-tetraethyl-3,6,13,16-tetramethylporphycene and R = C6H5, 3,5-C6F2H3, 3,4,5-C6F3H2 or 2,3,5,6-C6F4H. Each compound is characterized as to its ESR, NMR, and UV−visible properties which are compared to corresponding compounds in an analogous series of (OEP)Fe(R) and (OETPP)Fe(R) derivatives where OEP and OETPP are the dianions of octaethyl- and octaethyltetraphenylporphyrin, respectively. The (EtioPc)Fe(R) complexes contain either high- or low-spin Fe(III), depending on the specif…

Copper(I) Complexes of Bis(2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl) Ether:  Synthesis, Reactivity, and Theoretical Calculations

2007

The tricoordinated cationic Cu-I complex [Cu(kappa(2)-P,P'-DPEphos)(kappa(1)-P-DPEphos)][BF4] (1) (DPEphos = bis(2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl) ether) containing a dangling phosphorus center was synthesized from the reaction of [Cu(CH3CN)(4)][BF4] with DPEphos in a 1:2 molar ratio in dichloromethane. When complex 1 is treated with MnO2, elemental sulfur, or selenium, the uncoordinated phosphorus atom undergoes oxidation to form a PE bond resulting in the formation of complexes of the type [Cu(kappa(2)-P,P'-DPEphos)(kappa(2)-P,E-DPEphos-E)][BF4] (2, E = O; 3, E = S; 4, E = Se) containing a Cu-E bond. The zigzag polymeric Cu-I complex [Cu(kappa(2)-P,P'-DPEphos)(mu-4,4'-bpy)](n)[BF4](n) (5) was …
