Stability of chiral geometry in the odd–odd Rh isotopes: spectroscopy of 106Rh

2004

International audience; 136 P. Joshi et al. / Physics Letters B 595 (2004) 135–142AbstractThe nucleus 106Rh was populated using the reaction 96Zr(13C, p2n) at a beam energy of 51 MeV. γ -ray transitions wereidentified using the EUROBALL-IV γ -ray spectrometer and the DIAMANT charged particle array. The yrast band, which isbased upon a πg−19/2 ⊗ νh11/2 configuration, has been extended to I π = (22−). A new I = 1 band has been identified whichresides ∼ 300 keV above the yrast band. Core–quasiparticle coupling model calculations show reasonably good agreement withthe data. The properties of the two pairs of strongly coupled bands are consistent with a chiral interpretation for these states. 2…

Array of planar Penning traps as a nuclear magnetic resonance molecule for quantum computation

2005

An array of planar Penning traps, holding single electrons, can realize an artificial molecule suitable for NMR-like quantum information processing. The effective spin-spin coupling is accomplished by applying a magnetic field gradient, combined to the Coulomb interaction acting between the charged particles. The system lends itself to scalability, since the same substrate can easily accommodate an arbitrary number of traps. Moreover, the coupling strength is tunable and under experimental control. Our theoretical predictions take into account a realistic setting, within the reach of current technology.

Quantum effects in the capture of charged particles by dipolar polarizable symmetric top molecules. II. Interplay between electrostatic and gyroscopi…

2013

ally nonadiabatic channel treatment of the capture of charged particles by dipolar polarizable symmetric top molecules with the aim to reveal quantum effects in the collision dynamics. In general, these effects are related to the discrete nature of the intrinsic, orbital, and total angular momenta, to the quantum character of passage of collision partners across effective potential barriers and drops, and to the interplay of two types of anisotropic interactions, the gyroscopic (Coriolis) and the electrostatic ones. The latter feature, in principle, leads to a coupling of capture channels. In the calculation of capture cross sections or rate coefficients, however, this coupling can be ignor…

Stoichiometry of LiNiO2 Studied by Mössbauer Spectroscopy

2002

From the 61Ni and 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy data follows the cationic site assignment in Li1−x Ni1+x O2. Our data explain the ferromagnetic properties of this material because of the appearance of Ni2+ (S = 1) among Ni3+ (S = 1/2) in Ni3+O2 hexagonal planes. We have no evidence for the ferromagnetic interaction between the NiO2 layers through the excess Ni2+ ions substituting the Li+ ions. The presence of Ni2+ found in the Ni3+O2 planes explains the absence of the Jahn-Teller distortions probably because of the electronic transfer between the Ni3+ and Ni2+ ions.

Observations of Forbush Decreases of cosmic ray electrons and positrons with the Dark Matter Particle Explorer

2021

The Forbush Decrease (FD) represents the rapid decrease of the intensities of charged particles accompanied with the coronal mass ejections (CMEs) or high-speed streams from coronal holes. It has been mainly explored with ground-based neutron monitors network which indirectly measure the integrated intensities of all species of cosmic rays by counting secondary neutrons produced from interaction between atmosphere atoms and cosmic rays. The space-based experiments can resolve the species of particles but the energy ranges are limited by the relative small acceptances except for the most abundant particles like protons and helium. Therefore, the FD of cosmic ray electrons and positrons have …

Observation of Meson-Exchange Effects in Deuteron Electrodisintegration

1976

Electrodisintegration of the deuteron has been measured for an incident energy of 300 MeV at 30\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} and 90\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} scattering angles. The maximum energy transfer was 116 MeV. Very good agreement with theory was achieved when the pionic-exchange currents were included. Near the threshold and for momentum transfer $\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{\mathrm{q}}_{\mathrm{c}.\mathrm{m}.}^{}{}_{}{}^{2}=3.9$ ${\mathrm{fm}}^{\ensuremath{-}2}$, the meson-exchange currents contribute about 40% to the total cross section.

Loss of coherence and dressing in QED

2006

The dynamics of a free charged particle, initially described by a coherent wave packet, interacting with an environment, i.e. the electromagnetic field characterized by a temperature $T$, is studied. Using the dipole approximation the exact expressions for the evolution of the reduced density matrix both in momentum and configuration space and the vacuum and the thermal contribution to decoherence, are obtained. The time behaviour of the coherence lengths in the two representations are given. Through the analysis of the dynamic of the field structure associated to the particle the vacuum contribution is shown to be linked to the birth of correlations between the single momentum components o…

Evaluation of time domain electromagnetic fields radiated by constant velocity moving particles traveling along an arbitrarily shaped cross-section w…

2012

[1] A technique for the accurate computation of the time domain electromagnetic fields radiated by a charged distribution traveling along an arbitrarily shaped waveguide region is presented. Based on the transformation (by means of the standard Fourier analysis) of the time-varying current density of the analyzed problem to the frequency domain, the resulting equivalent current is further convolved with the dyadic electric and magnetic Green’s functions. Moreover, we show that only the evaluation of the transverse magnetic modes of the structure is required for the calculation of fields radiated by particles traveling in the axial direction. Finally, frequency domain electric and magnetic f…

Single particle motion in a Penning trap: description in the classical canonical formalism

1992

This paper aims at the development of methods for the calculation of the characteristic frequencies of a Penning trap, taking into account deviations of the actual geometry from the ideal one, anharmonicities of the electric potential, misalignments and inhomogeneities of the magnetic field, additional time dependent electromagnetic fields, and so on. The paper starts by describing the motion of a single charged particle in an ideal hyperbolic Penning trap using the formalism of classical hamiltonian mechanics. The usefulness of rotating coordinates is pointed out, and the importance of conservation of canonical angular momentum is stressed. After transformation to action-angle variables th…

Search for relativistic magnetic monopoles with the ANTARES neutrino telescope

2012

Magnetic monopoles are predicted in various unified gauge models and could be produced at intermediate mass scales. Their detection in a neutrino telescope is facilitated by the large amount of light emitted compared to that from muons. This paper reports on a search for upgoing relativistic magnetic monopoles with the ANTARES neutrino telescope using a data set of 116 days of live time taken from December 2007 to December 2008. The one observed event is consistent with the expected atmospheric neutrino and muon background, leading to a 90% C.L. upper limit on the monopole flux between 1.3 ¿ 10¿17 and 8.9 ¿ 10¿17 cm¿2 s¿1 sr¿1 for monopoles with velocity ß ¿ 0.625.
