Breast cancer is the most frequent tumor among women worldwide and is the second cause of cancer-related mortality in the US. Metastatic breast cancer (MBC) accounts for less than 10% of newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and about 30% of early breast cancer patients will develop recurrent, advanced, or metastatic disease. It remains an incurable illness and the primary goal of its management is palliative. Several agents are active for the fi rst-line treatment of MBC. The taxanes, paclitaxel and docetaxel, represent the standard of care for the treatment of these patients. An Integrative Approach to Assess the Environmental Impacts of Gold Mining Contamination in the Amazon

As the number of legal and illegal gold mining sites increases in the Andes–Amazonia region, integrative methods to evaluate the effects of mining pollution on freshwater ecosystems are of paramount importance. Here, we sampled water and sediments in 11 sites potentially affected by gold mining activities in the Napo province (Ecuador). Determination of Third-Generation Synthetic Cannabinoids in Oral Fluids.

Abstract A procedure has been developed for the determination of third-generation synthetic cannabinoids in oral fluid samples by using a semi-automated microextraction by packed sorbent (MEPS) procedure and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) determination. Five synthetic cannabinoids were employed as model compounds 5F-ADB, MMB-CHMICA, THJ-2201, CUMYL-4CN-BINACA and MDMB-CHMCZCA. AbstractThe interaction of PiO(i+2)−(3i+1) (i = 1,2,3) with the major components of seawater has been studied potentiometrically, at 25°C, in an artificial seawater (Na+, K, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl− and SO42−) at different salinities (5—45%o). Apparent protonation constants have been calculated, from potentiometric data, and estimated, using an appropriate complex formation model. A Forensic Diagnostic Algorithm for Drug-Related Deaths: A Case Series

The best evidence provided in the literature worldwide suggests the importance of harmonizing the investigation in drug-related fatalities. In this study, the application of a multidisciplinary approach in eight cases of drug-related deaths is presented. Although death scene findings could be highly suggestive of drug intoxication, external examination and toxicological screening test alone are insufficient.
