Triterpene Saponins from the Fruits of Phytolacca rugosa (Phytolaccaceae)

Four known serjanic acid glycosides were isolated from the fruits of Phytolacca rugosa and characterized mainly by 2D NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. This aglycon has a chemotaxonomic significance for the genus Phytolacca.

Subtercola boreus gen. nov., sp. nov. and Subtercola frigoramans sp. nov., two new psychrophilic actinobacteria isolated from boreal groundwater.

Psychrophilic actinobacterial isolates from permanently cold groundwater in Finland were characterized using a polyphasic approach. Growth on agar plates was observed at temperatures down to -2 degrees C, with an optimum at 15-17 degrees C, but no growth was observed at 30 degrees C. The peptidoglycan type was B2y and the characteristic diamino acid was diaminobutyric acid. The cell wall sugars of strain K265T were rhamnose, ribose, xylose and mannose and those of strain K300T were glucose, rhamnose and xylose. The essential oil composition of Centaurea immanuelis-loewii Degen growing wild in Bulgaria and chemotaxonomy of section Acrocentron

In the present study, the chemical composition of the essential oil from aerial parts of the Balkan endemic, Centaurea immanuelis-loewii Degen (sect. Acrocentron, Asteraceae), collected in Bulgaria was evaluated by GC-MS. The main components of the oil were β-caryophyllene (23.2%), germacrene D (13.7%) and caryophyllene oxide (12.4%). Furthermore, a complete literature review on the composition of the essential oils of all the other taxa of Centaurea, belonging to section Acrocentron, studied so far, was performed and the chemotaxonomical variations in the composition of the essential oils is discussed.

Viscum album L., (Common Mistletoe), is a hemiparasitic shrub that lives on a wide range of woody plant species, known since Neolithic period for its ritual and for pharmacological properties. Up to now, no investigation has been reported on the chemical composition of the essential oils of V. album aerial parts in relation with the diverse host trees. Daldinia macaronesica (from the Canary Islands and Madeira), D. palmensis (from the Canary Islands), D. martinii and D. raimundi (from Sicily), and D. vanderguchtiae (from Jersey, Channel Islands) spp. nov., are described, based on new combinations of teleomorphic and anamorphic characters. Oleanane-type glycosides from Pittosporum tenuifolium “variegatum” and P. tenuifolium “gold star”

Abstract The phytochemical study of two cultivars of Pittosporum tenuifolium Banks & Sol. ex Gaertn, “variegatum” and “gold star”, led to the isolation of eight oleanane-type glycosides: seven previously undescribed and a known one. Terpenoid glycosides from the root's barks of Eriocoelum microspermum Radlk. ex Engl.

A taxonomical study of the subtribe leontodontinae based on the distribution of phenolic compounds

Abstract Evaluation of the phenolic constituents of five species belonging to the subtribe Leontodontinae (family Asteraceae) allowed the identification of ten flavonoid and eight phenolic acids by means of HPLC and other standard methods. The role of these compounds in relation to the morphological characteristics in the systematics of the subtribe is discussed.

Chemosystematic study on leaf volatile compounds of Saxifraga L. series Ceratophyllae (Saxifragaceae)

Extracts from 65 samples corresponding to 13 species and 18 taxa of Saxifraga series Ceratophyllae s. l. were analysed by GC and GC/MS. This paper provides the first chemosystematic information on volatile composition of a seemingly natural group in the Saxifragaceae. Diterpenoids and n-alkanes appear to be the most important constituents and some of them are associated to different species and taxonomic series. Essential oil compositions of Teucrium fruticans, T. scordium subsp. scordioides and T. siculum growing in Sicily and Malta

In the present study, the chemical composition of the essential oils from the aerial parts of Teucrium fruticans L. collected in Sicily and Malta, Teucrium scordium subsp. scordioides (Schreb.) Arcang. and Teucrium siculum (Raf.) Guss., collected in Sicily, were evaluated by GC-MS.
