The combined effects of two chlorine substituents and the non-additivities of chemical shifts in aliphatic dichloro esters
1982
Carbon-13 NMR spectra were measured for 25 methyl esters of aliphatic dichlorocarboxylic acids for substituted propanoic to hexanoic acids. Observed 13C shifts are compared with calculated shift values obtained from the shifts of the corresponding monochloro esters by applying a simple sum method. The greatest failures from additivity are observed for αβ and αα substituted carbons. The combined effects of two chlorine substituents were determined, and compared with those obtained from chlorine substituent effects in monochloro esters by assuming additivity. The trends displayed by the combined effects, and also by the non-additivity effects, are discussed.
Nanohydrogel Formation within the Halloysite Lumen for Triggered and Sustained Release
2018
An easy strategy to obtain nanohydrogels within the halloysite nanotube (HNTs) lumen was investigated. Inorganic reverse micelles based on HNTs and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromides were dispersed in chloroform, and the hydrophilic cavity was used as a nanoreactor to confine the gel formation based on alginate cross-linked by calcium ions. Spectroscopy and electron microscopy experiments proved the confinement of the polymer into the HNT lumen and the formation of calcium-mediated networks. Biological tests proved the biocompatibility of the hybrid hydrogel. The nanogel in HNTs was suitable for drug loading and sustained release with the opportunity of triggered burst release by chemical …
Bacteriochlorin-diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) hybrids : New near-infrared fluorophores for biosensing/bioimaging applications
2020
Near-infrared (700-900 nm) absorbing and emitting organic-based fluorophores are valuable tools for bioimaging applications. Indeed, biological component absorption, diffusion and autofluorescence are quite low in this region (known as the first therapeutic window NIR-I), making tissues relatively transparent to these long wavelengths. Bacteriochlorins are porphyrins derivatives in which two double bonds are reduced. These molecules display a strong absorption and emission within NIR-I spectral range. DPPs are structurally simpler fluorophores displaying very interesting properties. They have high fluorescence quantum yields, are highly (photo)chemically and thermally stable. The aim of thi…
Copper nanowire array as highly selective electrochemical sensor of nitrate ions in water
2020
Contamination of water with nitrate ions is a significant problem that affects many areas of the world. The danger from nitrates is not so much their toxicity, rather low, as their transformation into nitrites and in particular into nitrosamines, substances considered to be a possible carcinogenic risk. For this reason, European legislation has set the maximum permissible concentration of nitrates in drinking water at 44 mg/l. Thus, it is clear that a continuous monitoring of nitrate ions is of high technological interest but it must be rapid, easy to perform and directly performed in situ. Electrochemical detection is certainly among the best techniques to obtain the above requirements. In…

Decay properties of exoticN≃28 S and Cl nuclei and theCa48/46Ca abundance ratio
1993
Beta-decay half-lives and \ensuremath{\beta}-delayed neutron-emission probabilities of the very neutron-rich nuclei $^{44}\mathrm{S}$ and $^{45--47}\mathrm{Cl}$ have been measured. These isotopes, which lie at or close to the N=28 magic shell, were produced in interactions of a 60 MeV/u $^{48}\mathrm{Ca}$ beam from GANIL (Grand Acc\'el\'erateur National d'Ions Lourds) with a $^{64}\mathrm{Ni}$ target, and were separated by the doubly achromatic spectrometer LISE (Ligne d'Ions Super Epluch\'es). Their decay was studied by a \ensuremath{\beta}-n time correlation measurement. The results are compared to recent model predictions and indicate a rapid weakening of the N=28 shell effect below $_{2…
Decay Spectroscopy for Nuclear Astrophysics: β-delayed Proton Decay
2011
In several radiative proton capture reactions important in novae and XRBs, the resonant parts play the capital role. We use decay spectroscopy techniques to find these resonances and study their properties. We have developed techniques to measure beta- and beta-delayed proton decay of sd-shell, proton-rich nuclei produced and separated with the MARS recoil spectrometer of Texas A&M University. The short-lived radioactive species are produced in-flight, separated, then slowed down (from about 40 MeV/u) and implanted in the middle of very thin Si detectors. This allows us to measure protons with energies as low as 200 keV from nuclei with lifetimes of 100 ms or less. At the same time we measu…
Antimykotische wirkstoffe. XV. . Die halogensubstitution bei phenoxy-1,3,5-triazinen
1983
Through the nucleophilic substitution of one chlorine atom in 2,4-dichloro-6-diethylamino-1,3,5-triazine (1) by halophenols (2a-f) the 2-chloro-4-diethylamino-6-halophenoxy-1,3,5-triazines (3a-f) are accessible. Structure 3 comprises representatives exhibiting antimycotic activity.
Polychlorinated Dibenzothiophenes (PCDTs), Thianthrenes (PCTAs) and Their Alkylated Derivatives
2000
Polychlorinated dibenzothiophenes (PCDTs) and polychlorinated thianthrenes (PCTAs) are interesting compounds due to their structural similarity with polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs). PCDTs are sulfur analogues of PCDFs and PCTAs are sulfur analogues of PCDDs. PCDTs and PCTAs are probably formed by processes similar to the formation of PCDFs and PCDDs. PCDTs were first detected in the environment in 1986. Since then PCDTs have been analyzed in samples from combustion and metallurgy, sediments, pulp mill effluents, and in aquatic biota. Combustion and metallurgy seem to be the major sources of PCDTs in the environment. PCDTs and PCTAs are ana…
Depletion of ozone and reservoir species of chlorine and nitrogen oxide in the lower Antarctic polar vortex measured from aircraft
2017
Novel airborne in situ measurements of inorganic chlorine, nitrogen oxide species, and ozone were performed inside the lower Antarctic polar vortex and at its edge in September 2012. We focus on one flight during the Transport and Composition of the LMS/Earth System Model Validation (TACTS/ESMVal) campaign with the German research aircraft HALO (High-Altitude LOng range research aircraft), reaching latitudes of 65°S and potential temperatures up to 405 K. Using the early winter correlations of reactive trace gases with N2O from the Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment-Fourier Transform Spectrometer (ACE-FTS), we find high depletion of chlorine reservoir gases up to ∼40% (0.8 ppbv) at 12 km to 1…
