The article analyses unpublished instructions written by a vice-prior of the Order of St. John in the late seventeenth century. They were directed at the conventual chaplains providing religious support to knights, soldiers and crew (including slave rowers) during the naval campaigns of the Order galleys, the so-called “caravane”. On one hand the work was inspired by literature on the “Christian soldier” (whose authors were often Jesuits), on the other it brought together the spiritual care issues directly experienced by the same chaplains on board. In March 2011, the model of cost accounting for Spanish public universities was approved and published based on the CANOA project of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport (MECD 2011). Nazwą knānāya (także „południowcy”) określa się jedno z ramion indyjskiego chrześcijaństwa, którego członkowie doszukują się swojej genezy w starożytnej emigracji perskich chrześcijan, przybyłych do Indii pod przewodnictwem kupca Tomasza z Kany. Charakterystyczną cechą tej grupy jest silne przywiązanie do tradycji i bezwarunkowa ochrona tożsamości łączącej współczesnych „południowców” z ich przodkami. Sam fakt głębokiego przywiązania do tradycji i w konsekwencji jej silna ochrona nie powinien dziwić, wszak jest to jedno z podstawowych praw każdej wspólnoty i każdego człowieka. Byzantine Liturgical Hymnography: a Stumbling Stone for the Jewish-Orthodox Christian Dialogue?

Abstract This article discusses the role of Byzantine liturgical hymnography within the Jewish-Orthodox Christian dialogue. It seems that problematic anti-Jewish hymns of the Orthodox liturgy were often put forward by the Jewish side, but Orthodox theologians couldn’t offer a satisfactory answer, so that the dialogue itself profoundly suffered. The author of this study argues that liturgical hymnography cannot be a stumbling stone for the dialogue. Bringing new witnesses from several Orthodox theologians, the author underlines the need for a change of perspective.
