In 1830, Belgian Catholics and Liberals had together adopted a constitution that declared the separation of church and state. The constitutional efforts of the Catholics in Belgium, Ireland, and Poland helped convince Hugues Felicite Lamennais (1782-1854) to give up his traditionalist demands in favor of liberal and democratic ones, which he defended in the journal L’Avenir (1830/31). Lamennais can be credited with being the first theorist to draw up a body of principles justifying from a Christian perspective a constitutional order that includes basic liberal rights and the separation of church and state.
Rewriting antiquity, renewing Rome. The Identity of the Eternal City through Visual Art, Monumental Inscriptions and the Mirabilia
2011
AbstractDuring the eleventh and twelfth centuries the Church began a process of renovation (renovatio) and the city of Rome was given new meanings. Antiquity is part of the identity of the Eternal City; the reuse or reframing of aspects of antiquity inevitably transformed the image of Rome. Public spaces, architecture and objects were given new Christian readings. Inscriptions, present both in sacred and secular settings, played an important role. A similar rewriting can also be found in travel literature and descriptions of the city, such as in the Mirabilia urbis Rome, where ancient monuments were re-interpreted to demonstrate the superiority of Christianity. Inscriptions were used as sym…

2015
This article provides a study of political positions concerning the role of religion in modern society in Sweden between 1920 and 1939. It aims to increase understanding of the Swedish secularization path, with special emphasis on issues related to heritage and national identity, by comparing the dominant perspectives on these issues in the Church of Sweden and in the Social Democratic Party during that period. It addresses how these positions have influenced policies during the period, as well as some of their implications for later path dependence. It explores relations between religious issues and the concept of national heritage, as well as how the fact that both were at that time commo…

2020
The facade of the church of the Pious Schools of Gandia has not attracted the attention of researchers. However, its conception has a great architectural culture and constitutes an essential work to understand its context, fundamentally, that of the theoretical treatises of the Renaissance. From this study it is wanted to value its architecture and that it is considered as an outstanding ingredient to know its period of construction in general and jesuit architecture in particular. For its understanding, its interpretation in the culture of contemporary architecture treaties and, especially, in the architectural-musical theory of Leon Battista Alberti will be necessary.. La portada de la ig…
Communist Authorities Contra Brother Kloc. The Battlefront Against The Illegal Trade of Devotional Items in The Koźle District In 1965
2019
The Eucharist or the Lord's Supper in the light of the Catholic-Pentecostal dialogue (1972-2015)
2019
The ongoing Catholic-Pentecostal dialogue highlighted a certain disproportion in the approach of each of the parties to the Eucharist or the Lord's Supper. For Pentecost Christians participation in the Lord's Supper is of secondary importance. Common conversations been shown that in Catholic spirituality the Eucharist occupies a significant and central place. It is the presence of the sacrifice that took place once and for all on the cross of Christ. Pentecostals are not unanimous, however, in the meaning of the Lord's Supper. For this community usually the Lord's Supper means only commemoration of Last Supper. They do not believe, however, that during it the bread and wine will transform t…
