Reciprocal lower bound on modulus of curve families in metric surfaces

We prove that any metric space $X$ homeomorphic to $\mathbb{R}^2$ with locally finite Hausdorff 2-measure satisfies a reciprocal lower bound on modulus of curve families associated to a quadrilateral. SURFACE SUBGROUPS OF RIGHT-ANGLED ARTIN GROUPS

We consider the question of which right-angled Artin groups contain closed hyperbolic surface subgroups. It is known that a right-angled Artin group $A(K)$ has such a subgroup if its defining graph $K$ contains an $n$-hole (i.e. an induced cycle of length $n$) with $n\geq 5$. We construct another eight "forbidden" graphs and show that every graph $K$ on $\le 8$ vertices either contains one of our examples, or contains a hole of length $\ge 5$, or has the property that $A(K)$ does not contain hyperbolic closed surface subgroups. Real-time PCR detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in clinical and municipal wastewater and genotyping of the ciprofloxacin-resistant isolates

Real-time quantification of Pseudomonas aeruginosa was performed in various wastewater systems including clinical, municipal wastewaters and inflow from a wastewater treatment plant. The highest concentrations of P. aeruginosa-specific targets were detected in clinical wastewaters. Limitations of the detection system resulting from inhibition or cross-reaction were identified. Ciprofloxacin-resistant P. aeruginosa strains were isolated after specific enrichment from clinical and municipal wastewaters. Inheritance of resistance to the Bacillus thuringiensis Berl. CryIA(b) crystal protein was studied in Plutella xylostella L. (diamondback moth). A field population 50-fold more resistant to CryIA(b) than a control susceptible strain was used. Dose-mortality curves of the resistant population, the susceptible strain and the F 1 from the two reciprocal crosses were compared. Resistance transmission to the F 1 was dependent on the sex of the resistant progenitor. Active pharmaceutical ingredients, especially antibiotics, are micropollutants whose continuous flow into hydrological cycles has the potential to mediate antibiotic resistance in the environment and cause toxicity to sensitive organisms. Here, we investigated the levels of selected antibiotics in four wastewater treatment plants and the receiving water bodies. The objective was to characterize the in vivo absorption and bioavailability (BA) of a low solubility, high permeability fluoroquinolone (CNV97101) that precipitates in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract by mathematical modeling approach. In situ rat intestinal perfusion studies were performed to characterize the absorption mechanism. The oral fraction absorbed in vivo was lower than the predicted based on the in situ intestinal permeability. Brown (BAT) and white (WAT) adipose tissues play a key role in the body energy balance orchestrated by the central nervous system. Hibernators have developed a seasonal obesity to respond to inhospitable environment. Jerboa is one of the deep hibernator originated from sub-desert highlands. Thus, this animal represents an excellent model to study cold adaptation mechanism.
