Microfabricated high temperature sensing platform dedicated to scanning thermal microscopy (SThM)
2018
Abstract The monitoring of heat flux is becoming more and more critical for many materials and structures approaching nanometric dimensions. Scanning Thermal Microscopy (SThM) is one of the tools available for thermal measurement at the nanoscale and requires calibration. Here we report on a micro-hotplate device made of a platinum heater suspended on thin silicon nitride (SiN) membranes integrating specific features for SThM calibration. These heated reference samples can include a localized resistive temperature sensors (RTD) or standalone platinum membranes (typically 10 × 10 μm2) on which the temperature can be measured precisely. This functional area is dedicated to (1) estimate the th…
Refractive index controlled by film morphology and free carrier density in undoped ZnO through sol-pH variation
2018
Abstract Zinc oxide thin films, prepared by the sol-gel process, were deposited on glass substrate using spin coating technique. The sol-pH effect on the optical parameters was studied for alkaline sol. The surface roughness was investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and varied from 20 to 40 nm. The optical transmission measurements were carried out to evaluate the behavior of the extinction coefficient and the refractive index. An exponential decay of the refractive index ‘n’ as a function of wavelength was observed. The refractive index increases slightly when the pH increases to pH = 9.5 where it reaches its maximum. Beyond this value, it decreases sharply. This behavior has been …
Determination of elastoplastic properties of TiO2 thin films deposited on dual phase stainless steel using nanoindentation tests
2010
International audience; In recent years, the extraction of mechanical behaviour of thin films by nanoindentation using sharp indenter geometry has been extensively studied. This work investigates the mechanical properties of TiO2 thin film (1 µm thickness) deposited by spin coating on dual phase Duplex stainless steel and glass substrates. Experiments are carried out with different sharp triangular pyramids (a Cube corner and a Berkovich indenter) using a commercial Nano Indenter® XP apparatus. The substrate effect has been counteracted and an inverse method proposed in literature for bulk material has been adapted to assess the elastoplastic parameters of the tested thin film directly from…
Deposition of binder-free oxygen-vacancies NiCo2O4 based films with hollow microspheres via solution precursor thermal spray for supercapacitors
2019
Abstract Hollow micro-/nanostructures and oxygen vacancies are highly desirable for supercapacitors due to high active surface area and outstanding electrochemical properties. In order to benefiting from the both effect, binder-free oxygen-vacancies NiCo2O4 based films with hollow microspheres were pioneering directly deposited via one kind thermal spray technology, named solution precursor thermal spray (SPTS) process. To our best knowledge, the rapid one-step SPTS route was firstly employed to synthesize and deposit NiCo2O4 films for supercapacitor applications. The CV data clearly demonstrated that the specific capacitances of more oxygen-deficient NiCo2O4 electrodes with hollow microsph…
Finite element analysis of stress concentration between surface coated implants and non surface coated implants - An in vitro study.
2019
Background To determine qualitative comparison in stress distribution between surface coated implants and non surface coated implants using 2 different lengths and vertical, oblique, and lateral forces. Material and Methods 3 dimensional finite element study was carried out at first molar site with 4 surface coated and 4 non surface coated implants using mimic 8.11, solid edge 2004, hypermesh 9.0, and ansys12.1 software. Results The pattern of stress distribution was almost similar between vertical and oblique loading but varied with lateral loads between surface coated and non surface coated implants. As the length of the implants increased stress concentration had no significant variation…
Atomic layer deposition of aluminum oxide on modified steel substrates
2016
Abstract Al 2 O 3 thin films were grown by atomic layer deposition to thicknesses ranging from 10 to 90 nm on flexible steel substrates at 300 °C using Al(CH 3 ) 3 and H 2 O as precursors. The films grown to thicknesses 9–90 nm covered the rough steel surfaces uniformly, allowing reliable evaluation of their dielectric permittivity and electrical current densities with appreciable contact yield. Mechanical behavior of the coatings was evaluated by nanoindentation. The maximum hardness values of the Al 2 O 3 films on steel reached 12 GPa and the elastic modulus exceeded 280 GPa.
Influence of the MgO barrier thickness on the lifetime characteristics of magnetic tunnelling junctions for sensors
2016
Magnetic tunnelling junctions increasingly enter the market for magnetic sensor applications. Thus, technological parameters such as the lifetime characteristics become more and more important. Here, an analysis of the lifetime characteristics of magnetic tunnelling junctions using the Weibull statistical distribution for CoFeB/MgO/CoFeB junctions is presented. The Weibull distribution is governed by two parameters, the characteristic lifetime η of the population and the shape parameter β, which gives information about the presence of an infant mortality. The suitability of the Weibull distribution is demonstrated for the description of dielectric breakdown processes in MgO-based tunnelling…
Introducing Memory in Coarse-Grained Molecular Simulations
2021
[Image: see text] Preserving the correct dynamics at the coarse-grained (CG) level is a pressing problem in the development of systematic CG models in soft matter simulation. Starting from the seminal idea of simple time-scale mapping, there have been many efforts over the years toward establishing a meticulous connection between the CG and fine-grained (FG) dynamics based on fundamental statistical mechanics approaches. One of the most successful attempts in this context has been the development of CG models based on the Mori–Zwanzig (MZ) theory, where the resulting equation of motion has the form of a generalized Langevin equation (GLE) and closely preserves the underlying FG dynamics. In…
A solvent-directed stereoselective and electrocatalytic synthesis of diisoeugenol.
2018
A stereoselective and electrocatalytic coupling reaction of isoeugenol has been reported for the first time in a 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP)/boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrode system. This particular C-C bond formation and diastereoselectivity is driven by a solvate interaction between the radical species and another isoeugenol molecule. Due to an electrocatalytic cycle, only understoichiometric amounts of charge are necessary. Since electric current is directly employed as the oxidant, the reaction is metal and reagent-free. In addition, the electrolysis can be conducted in a very simple undivided beaker-type cell under constant current conditions. Therefore, the protocol is …
Determination of the chemical warfare agents Sarin, Soman and Tabun in natural waters employing fluorescent hybrid silica materials
2017
[EN] A novel mesoporous silica material containing boron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY) moieties (I) is employed for the detection of nerve agent simulants (NASs) and the organophosphate nerve or chemical warfare agents (CWAs) Sarin (GB), Soman (GD), and Tabun (GA) in aqueous environments. The reactive BODIPY dye with an optimum positioned hydroxyl group undergoes acylation reactions with phosph(on)ate substrates, yielding a bicyclic ring. Due to aggregation of the dyes in water, the sensitivity of the free dye in solution is very low. Only after immobilization of the BODIPY moieties into the silica substrates is aggregation inhibited and a sensitive determination of the NASs diethyl cyanophosphon…
